Chapter 4: A deal in the making

LUCAS

"Mum!" I rushed into the room as soon as I opened the door and saw her resting on her bed. She opened her eyes as soon as she heard the commotion as she smiled at me, raising her hand up as I held it.

I scanned her body looking for any injury despite the fact that Dr Gray had told me that there was nothing to be worried about.

"How are you feeling? Are you in shock? Where were you heading to tonight? Do you know how dangerous it was driving alone? On a stormy night? Do you hate me that much?" I rattled out as she held my hand tight and said,

"It seems this old lady has worried you a lot. I'm sorry for that. I didn't mean to do it" She said as I sighed and said,

"If you didn't mean to do it, then don't go around searching for it. What were you doing on the road alone?" I asked as she looked away.

"What are you not telling me mum? Why are you silent?" I asked turning to face her as she sighed and said,

"I was headed to City Depot. There was a lady that I was planning to meet. I thought she would be good for you." My frown came back on as I heard those words.

"Were you secretly looking for a wife for me on your own?" I asked letting go of her hands as she looked at me.

"I was only trying to help you quicken the process." She said as I ran a hand through my hair.

"I can't believe you at all. I told you I had it under control. Do you know how dangerous this is? You almost died mum. What grandchild would you have held if you died tonight? Why are you persistent on this." I asked her angry and frustrated at this issue. For a very long time. She had been determined to get me married and now she is risking her life for this.

I couldn't let his continue any further. I needed to put an end to this.

"I'm sorry my son. I didn't mean to do this. I am just trying to help. I know it's stupid and I realized something. I won't try to force you to find a wife again. You can do whatever you please. If you want to be a bachelor then no problem." She said as I was stunned at her words.

She was giving up? No this can't be right.

"Why are you saying this? What happened that you aren't telling me?" I asked her eager to know as she sighed and said,

"I met someone tonight. Before the accident. I saw her on the bridge. She looked so beautiful and so sad. And I thought she was going to kill herself. She looked ready to jump. And then that lady saved me in the water. And pulled me out. And left. She was so sad. She told me her name and I could see that there was a burden on her. I don't know if she later killed herself but I realized something. You and her aren't too different. I have been pressuring you as well. I don't want to burden you to do something you don't want to do. I don't want that for you." She said as I sighed, resigned.

"Mum, you aren't burdening me. I have someone already I want to marry and I was planning to introduce you this weekend. It was meant to be a secret surprise .If I had known that you were still searching on your own. I would have said something earlier. This is my fault as well." I lied holding her hands as she looked at me surprised.

"You really have someone? Are you lying to me?" She asked as i shook my head.

"Of course not. I'll bring her to meet you once you are out of here and safe. I may have gotten her pregnant though. I hope you won't scold me for that." I said sheepishly scratching my head as my mum sat upright on the bed as she hit me on my head.

"You savage. How dare you get her pregnant without tying the knot. She is going to think she is a whore. Especially as you don't know how to communicate your feelings. I want to see her. You have to bring her to me soon so I can give her my blessings. And you, you finally did something right in your life." She said.

"Hey! I do a lot of things right in my life. But sure I'll bring her. What's the name of the lady that saved you. She needs to be rewarded for her kind act. And I'll try and help her. Set her up with a business. He'll make Kyle marry her if she is interested in men. She deserves the best as well." I said as my mum shook her head laughing as she said,

"Sure, we do owe her one. I really want to see her again as well. Her name is Sofia Lang. I can remember her again as long as I see her. I don't think I would ever forget her name. " She said as I nodded to myself.

"Sofia Lang huh? That seems like a very mysterious lady as well. I'll find her for you ma. I promise." I said smiling at her as I pulled her into a hug and thanked the Lord silently for sending such a woman to save my mum.

I didn't know what I was going to do without her and I was very happy to see that she had someone watching over her.

"And now you can't say no to bodyguards 24/7. And no driving anywhere by yourself now." I said pulling away as she groaned.

"As long as you introduce me to your girlfriend and find me Sofia Lang, then you got yourself a deal." She said bringing her hand out for a handshake as I shook it firmly nodding my head.

"You got yourself a deal ma."
