Chapter 04
The air around me instantly stopped moving.
My body swayed again and again, my heart felt like it was being squeezed by thousands of people. A wave of heat began to rise from my chest, and a sharp pain spread throughout my bones.
I started screaming, my body began to convulse in front of everyone.
But unfortunately, my husband, Richard, didn't even turn his head, not a shred of pity in his eyes for me.
Cheers of joy erupted again, ignoring the pain I was feeling.
“Long live Alpha, Richard!”
“Long live Luna Hazel!”
As I was still shivering in pain, the next sentence that came out of Richard's mouth destroyed what little self-respect I had left.
“And from this moment on, Erica is no longer part of the Cendana Pack. She is not worthy of the name Luna or of being part of this Pack!” he continued, making my legs feel completely weak.
Now his breathing was ragged, not only because of the rejection of the Bone Mate law that crushed my soul, but also because of the fact that the home I had protected with my blood and sacrifice now rejected my existence.
For five years, I protected them. I raised children who were not even my own flesh and blood, and I even endured all the pain to protect their Alpha's honor. But what was my reward?
I was discarded like useless trash.
I looked at Richard once more, hoping to see a trace of tenderness, memories, or even a hint of doubt on his face. However, there was none.
He now looked at me as if I were a burden he had long wanted to get rid of.
My chest shook violently, and my tears fell profusely. At that moment, I began to understand.
I truly understood that the pain of being rejected by a partner and the pain of being cast out by the pack, when combined, would completely destroy everything, not just my soul.
I couldn't stand being there anymore.
The cheers, insults, and hateful stares pierced deeper than a thousand wars.
I got up with renewed energy and ran from the union hall.
However, before I could leave, the voice I least wanted to hear called out to me.
“Erica!” Eric called me at that moment.
I paused for a moment, my breath catching. In my heart, I still had a little hope that Eric, the child you held close when the cold night of Hazel left him, would still love me.
Now I turned to Eric, tears covering my face.
“Honey, you don't believe me, do you, Mom?” I asked with a trembling voice full of pain.
Unfortunately, Eric's gaze killed the last of my hope.
His once warm eyes were now very cold, staring at me with accusation, no longer with affection.
“Don't call me that, you're not my mother!” he snapped emotionally. "Remember, you're just a replacement for my mother!
And because of you, my mother almost died in the forest last night! You are so selfish, Erica! You are disgusting!“
Every word that came out of Eric's mouth was like a flaming arrow that struck my heart without pause.
I stepped back, my body limp. ”Honey, it's me. I'm the mother who protects you and the mother who—"
“Shut up!” Eric pointed towards the gate, his gaze full of hatred as he stared at me. “Leave now! I don't want to see your face anymore! You're just a destroyer and you don't belong here!”
Eric's words were greeted with cheers from the crowd who agreed with him.
I tried to look at Eric one more time, hoping that he didn't really mean those cruel words, but all I saw was pride as he stood right next to his biological mother, Hazel, who had taken everything from me.
Your world has collapsed. My knees were weak, but I forced myself to stand. I realized that I couldn't fall and appear weak in front of them.
No more, I wouldn't do such a foolish thing. Without a word, I immediately turned around and ran as fast as I could, leaving behind the gate that I once called home.
Tears blurred my vision, but one thing was clear in my mind.
I was alone and would always be alone.
My legs grew weaker, my steps slower.
I didn't know how far I had run. The darkness of the night had swallowed me, the cold wind tore at my fragile body, but I had only one thought: to get as far away from the Cendana Pack as possible.
“Fate, why are you so cruel to me? Why?” I whispered softly, my tears completely dried up.
My steps began to falter, my body could no longer carry me. My vision began to blur, the world seemed to spin. My body finally fell right on the border between life and death.
Before my patience was completely gone, I felt something strange in my body, like a great fire consuming every inch of my bones.
Even the she-wolf, who had previously fainted from the unbearable pain of the bone mate punishment, now roared, awakening with pain, and I began to feel that she had risen.
At that moment, my blood was boiling, my bones were creaking, and the pain I was experiencing was a thousand times more painful than the pain I had felt earlier.
My body shook violently again, and I even clawed at the ground I could grasp. In the midst of the pain, I began to hallucinate, seeing a shadow.
The shadow had sharp blue eyes and a very dominant aura that made me feel like I was floating.
“Hurry up and bring her!” A deep voice echoed in my ears, making me wonder if my pain was causing me to hallucinate that someone cared about me.
However, it seemed that this time I was wrong. Even though I was unable to open my eyes, I could faintly hear footsteps approaching. I even felt a strong hand lifting my body.
The scent also startled me a little. I realized that this was not the scent of a werewolf I knew or the scent of the Cendana Pack, but this scent was very strong, smelling wilder but feeling very warm.
“Is she Luna?” Another voice sounded surprised.
