Chapter 05
“No, she is not Luna. She is more noble than that,” replied the deep voice again, which I realized had shaken my innermost weakness.
Before the darkness completely engulfed my consciousness, I felt a warm touch on my forehead again. It did not feel like feigned sympathy or false concern, but rather the power of a true Alpha.
Finally, the pain that surged back inside me reclaimed the consciousness I had been trying to hold on to.
“Erica, wake up.”
I felt a woman's voice calling my name.
I began to wake up and slowly opened my eyes, naturally feeling quite surprised to find that my body was now on a very unfamiliar bed, not on the ground as I had thought.
However, it wasn't that which confused me, but the scent in this room that made me a little dizzy, a strong scent that tickled my body but was soothing at the same time.
I couldn't even feel the presence of my she-wolf now.
My body now felt lighter, even though I knew my wounds hadn't healed yet, but that wasn't my main concern now. Instead, it was a man sitting in a chair, staring at me intently without blinking.
His gaze feels like it's stripping me bare, as if it wants to penetrate me.
“Finally, you're awake,” he says flatly. I try to muster the courage to return his gaze.
“I thought you were dead,” he continues, staring at me intently.
“Who are you?” I ask softly, forcing my hoarse voice to come out. “Why did you save me?” Of course, I was well aware that I didn't deserve to be saved by anyone.
“You shouldn't interrogate your savior, miss.” The man laughed amusedly, but I realized that his gaze remained flat, as if his laughter was just fake.
“Who are you?” I asked again, this time with a little more assertiveness.
He chuckled again.
“Where am I now? Don't tell me I'm in...” I said again because I was sure it was impossible for me to have run that far from the Cendana Pack in one night.
“You're very fierce, Luna, but okay, let me introduce myself. I'm Jayden, Alpha of the Ruby Pack,” he replied, which surprised me greatly.
How could I not be surprised? The Ruby Pack was supposed to be in the country across the border, and how could he know me when I didn't even know where I was?
“Why are you doing this? You won't get anything by saving me!” I said sarcastically, fully aware that in this world, no one would accept me, let alone need me.
My sarcastic words seemed to mean nothing to him.
“Why are you so insecure, Luna? Is it because you're just an outcast, Luna?”
His words successfully made me grit my teeth. The word “outcast” was indeed sharper than anything else in stirring up my wounds.
I saw Jayden get up from his seat and walk towards me.
"You don't have to look at me like that. I also know very well how it feels to be betrayed. However, the difference is that I got back up quickly. I won't let myself fall, and as for them, of course I'll give them back many times more pain than they gave me!"
This man's firm answer left me speechless. I began to realize that in his eyes I saw the same pain as mine, but he also had a fire of vengeance there, unlike me who had given up on this world.
“It's easy for you to say that, but you don't know how I feel,” I replied sarcastically. Of course, I knew that everyone said to repay every pain you felt, but I also knew that those words were very naive because I could never repay someone who was more powerful than me.
Jayden shook his head.
“You haven't done anything yet, but you've already given up?”
I chose to remain silent.
“I'm ready to help you if you allow me,” Jayden continued, surprising me.
However, before I could answer, someone entered the room.
“Forgive me, Alpha, this is very important.” The person entered and immediately knelt in front of Jayden, breathing heavily.
“Tell me what happened.”
“We have a messenger from the Cendana Pack. They said this message is about that woman.”
Hearing the man's answer, I didn't know how to react. How could they be hunting me?
The man who came immediately handed Jayden an official scroll. Without saying a word, Jayden immediately read it.
As Jayden read the letter, I once again tried to mindlink with my she-wolf.
“Lucy, please answer me!” I pleaded hopefully because in this world I only had Lucy, but unfortunately, no matter what I did, Lucy did not respond to me at all.
“Lucy, please don't be like this. I know you're angry because I didn't listen to you from the beginning, but please.” I kept trying to communicate, but unfortunately, Lucy seemed to be completely hiding.
I realized that Lucy might not be gone from me even though we had never awakened before, but in the corner of my heart, I was really afraid that Lucy would disappear because she was the one who was most hurt by the bone mate punishment compared to me.
“Do you want to know what's in it, Luna?” Jayden asked me, snapping me out of my reverie. I nodded slowly, even though I knew that the contents of the letter were not good, and tried to focus on what had happened before because I couldn't tell anyone how I felt now.
“They said that you have been officially rejected in front of the entire Pack, and now they say that you must return to them because, to them, you are a prisoner because you are a failed Luna.” Jayden's answer struck me like a bolt of lightning in broad daylight.
“A prisoner Luna?” I laughed bitterly. “So even after all the sacrifices I made for them, it only ended in humiliation? Even they themselves expelled me and said that I was no longer part of their pack, so why have they now changed their minds and said that I am a prisoner who is not entitled to freedom after all the sacrifices I made for them?” I asked in a choked voice.
