Chapter 1 Kidnap Gone Wrong
MIA
I am kidnapping my boyfriend.
Yes! I know that sounds insane, but believe me, when a girl starts acting crazy, there is a nonchalant boyfriend somewhere, getting on her nerves.
My best friend Sophie blinked at me from across the table, probably regretting the day she helped me over the school fence back in high school. An incident that birthed this friendship.
“Let me get this straight.” She drawled, punctuating her words with a long, disbelieving stare. “You want to drug Ethan.”
Nodding, I leaned forward, lowering my voice to make sure no one would hear us and report me to the cops before I even got the chance to execute my plans.
“I’ve got it all planned out.”
It is going to be easy. At least, in my head, it looks like it will be.
“Ethan never misses taking either a bottle of water from the fridge or a bottle of scotch when he returns from work. All I have to do is slip something into the drink that will knock him out, then you help me drag him into the car, and that’s it.”
She blinked. “You’re insane.”
She’s right. I am insane, and Ethan is to be blamed.
“He forgot my birthday, Sophie.”
Her eyebrows shot up. “Then talk to him about it.” She stressed. “Kidnapping a man that huge? Have you lost your mind?! I am a lawyer, Mia. I don’t go about kidnapping people.”
Why is she turning this into something that it is not?
“I am only trying to be romantic.”
“By kidnapping the man?”
“If he forgot my birthday, he is most definitely going to forget our three-year anniversary.” He has been so consumed with his work lately, and I am only trying to save my relationship. “All I am doing is knocking him out, dragging him to the car, and taking him to a cabin I booked for us for our anniversary. I’ll give him a strip dance and have the best sex of my life. Is that too much to ask?”
Sophie, still finding the whole idea ridiculous, mostly because she has always been conscious of the law as a lawyer, stared at me like I had just announced plans to rob a bank.
Reaching for the takeout bag on the empty chair beside me, I dropped it onto the table.
“I already bought the drugs. I heard this can knock down an elephant.”
She slowly reached for the bag and opened it. “Jesus!” Her eyes widened. “Where did you even get this, Mia?”
I shrugged.
She reached for her drink and took a sip, still eyeing me suspiciously over the rim of the cup.
“So, when are you carrying out this crazy plan of yours?”
“Tonight.”
She choked on her drink. “Tonight?!”
I nodded. “So I need you to get to Ethan’s house before eight p.m. He gets home by nine.”
“Can I talk you out of this?”
“Nope.” I just need to spend some time alone with my boyfriend during our anniversary.
A few minutes past eight, everything was set.
I drugged every drink and liquid in the house, knowing that he would most definitely pick one. Then I placed a camera in the living room so I could see what was going on, and after that, Sophie and I hid in one of the guest rooms, waiting for him to come home.
A few minutes later, we heard the front door open, followed by the sound of footsteps.
Sophie’s eyes bulged.
“He’s home,” she whispered. “I can’t believe I’m doing this.”
I opened the camera app on my phone, monitoring him as he walked around the living room. He picked up a few pictures, stared at them briefly, then dropped them back down. He opened a few drawers and closed them again.
“Is he looking for something?” Sophie whispered.
I shrugged in response.
Finally, he walked over to the bar, picked up a bottle of scotch and a glass, poured himself a drink, and gulped it down in one go.
I almost fist-pumped.
Perfect.
He refilled the glass before resuming his search through the drawers.
After a while, he froze and shook his head slowly before lifting the glass, eyeing it closely.
“I think it’s kicking in.”
Ethan staggered, the glass slipping from his hand, crashing onto the floor before his knees buckled and he crashed to the floor.
“Get a blanket!” I yelled at Sophie before dashing out of the room.
We rolled him onto the blanket and used it to drag him across the floor. It was not exactly the elegant kidnapping I had imagined, but at least we were making progress.
Once we got him closer to the door, I reached for his phone, intending to turn it off so his office wouldn’t be able to reach him.
“When did he change his phone?”
Sophie lifted her head. “What?”
I shook my head quickly and turned off the phone. “Nothing.”
Together, we struggled to drag him out of the house and into the back seat of my car.
“Thank you for helping me.”
Still wheezing for breath, she glared at me. “Don’t call me for something like this again.”
Chuckling, I rounded the car. “I love you too, Sophie!”
“Clearly not as much as you love Ethan!”
Getting into the car, I zoomed off on our five-hour ride to the cabin I had booked for both of us for the weekend.
Early the next morning, when I was sure the drugs would soon start to wear off, I changed into a sexy set I had gotten from Victoria’s Secret with my one-month salary.
I held onto the pole I had specially requested from the cabin management and waited for my boyfriend wake up so I could finally perform the strip dance I have been learning for two months.
Eventually, he stirred.
I hit the play button on my phone, and soft music drifted through the room. Slowly, I swirled around the pole, waiting for him to become fully awake before I started stripping.
Watching him lie on the bed with both hands tied to the side of the bedpost made me feel so goddamn proud of myself.
This is going to be our best getaway.
Ethan’s eyes finally opened, a soft groan leaving his lips as he slowly looked around the room.
I continued my little performance, removing my robe and flinging it toward the corner of the room, followed by my nightdress, leaving me in just my panties and bra.
Ethan tugged on the ropes holding his hands to the bed, and he hissed in anger, his eyes snapping around, trying to figure out what the hell was going on.
Finally, he lifted his head, his eyes snapping to me.
I winked at him and reached behind me, striking what I thought was the perfect pose before unclasping my bra.
My breast bounced free.
Instead of the desire I expected to see in his eyes, what I saw was anger and disgust.
His eyes didn’t even wander down for a second, his brows pulling together into a deep frown as he glared at me.
Hard.
“Who the fuck are you?”
