Chapter 2 Wrong Boyfriend

MIA

I froze, blinking rapidly at Ethan.

“What are you talking about?” Did I put too much of the drugs in his drink?

My eyes bulged.

Did it mess with his memory?

“If you don’t fucking untie me from here, I am going to make you regret the day you were pushed out of your mother’s fucking vagina!”

I stared at him.

Ethan never, ever speaks to me like that.

“Who are you?”

He glared at me, the anger in his eyes making them look almost unfamiliar.

“I should be the one asking that goddamn question, seeing as I am the one tied up in a mysterious cabin with a woman who has clearly lost her fucking mind!”

“Ethan!”

“I am no fucking Ethan!” he bellowed. “Now get me the fuck out of here!”

“Wait… wh_what?” My brain completely short-circuited.

“Did he send you?”

I frowned. “Did who send me?” What the hell is he on about?

My phone suddenly rang from the table, causing me to jump slightly.

The man claiming not to be Ethan glanced at the ringing phone, his brows snapping together.

“Well, are you going to answer that?” he snapped. “It’s giving me a fucking headache!”

Swallowing nervously, I hurried over to the table and snatched up the phone, my breath hitching when I saw the caller ID.

Ethan.

I stared at the screen, then at the man tied to the bedpost, then back at the screen.

If Ethan is calling me, then who the hell is the man I had tied to the bedpost?

Glancing back at him, I watched as he aggressively tugged the rope, trying to break free.

“Answer the damn phone!”

Flinching, I swiped the answer button and slowly placed the phone to my ear.

“Hello?”

“Mia?” Ethan called from the other end. “Are you okay? I went to your workplace and was told you took the weekend off.”

Dumbfounded and too petrified to speak, I dropped the phone.

My eyes darted to the stranger, then to my robe lying on the floor.

Oh God!

I rushed over, grabbed the robe, and quickly covered my boobs.

The stranger scoffed.

I froze.

Of all the things happening right now, this man had the audacity to scoff at me?

I am having a crisis!

Sucking in a deep breath, I hurried back to the phone, picked it up, and pressed it to my ear.

Maybe this is all a dream.

Because there is absolutely no way I just kidnapped my boyfriend’s doppelgänger and flashed my boobs at him.

“Mia?!” Ethan yelled. “Are you sure you are okay? Someone broke into my house last night and broke a glass. Do you know that bastard drugged all of my drinks, thinking I would take them, but the fucker forgot to clear the glass they broke.”

I swallowed.

I guess I am the fucker, and the bastard.

“I am fine,” I rasped, clearing my throat when my voice came out rough. “I was kind of stiffed up, which was why I took the weekend off.”

“Where are you?”

I glanced at the stranger. “At a client’s house. She left her dog’s tag with me yesterday, so I am just returning it.”

“Okay. Call me when you get home. I love you.”

The call went dead.

Unable to look at the man still struggling with the rope, I dialed Sophie’s number, and she picked up instantly.

“Shouldn’t you be having insane sex with Ethan? Why are you calling me?”

“I think I kidnapped the wrong guy,” I whispered.

“You think?!” The man snapped.

“What do you mean you kidnapped the wrong guy?” Sophie asked. “I saw his face last night. It was definitely Ethan we carried into the back seat.”

“Exactly! What the hell is going on?” I lowered my voice. “Ethan just called me now to ask where I am, and the man tied to the bed is asking who I am and is very furious.”

“What are you eve_”

She stopped.

I could practically hear her brain working through the disaster.

“If that man is not Ethan, then you need to get away from him.”

“Well, I have to untie him first.”

“I am not going to ask why you have him tied up in the first place,” Sophie said, “but don’t untie him. It will only give him the leverage to come after you.”

I glanced back at the man who has stopped struggling.

Instead, he was staring at me with the kind of look that made me regret every decision I have made in the last twenty-four hours.

“Well, he looks like someone who will furiously hunt me down if I leave him here tied.”

“Mia!”

“Leave a slot open for me in your schedule in case he decides to sue.”

Disconnecting the call, I tightened the rope on my robe before walking toward the man.

“I can explain.”

“How about you fucking untie me first!” he snapped, the vein in his neck bulging.

I shook my head. “I don’t trust you not to strangle me to death if I untie you.”

His eyes narrowed. “You drugged me, dragged me down to wherever the hell this is, and tied me up, yet you are the one scared that I will strangle you?”

“Well…” I shifted awkwardly. “When you put it like that, it does sound a little unreasonable.”

His jaw clenched.

“I thought you were my boyfriend,” I blurted out. “I know this sounds stupid, but you look exactly like him, and you were in his apartment, and you took the drink I kept for him and…”

He took a deep breath. “My wrist is sore, Ms, Fucking Untie-Me.”

Not until I clear the air and prove that I am not a kidnapper.

I hurried over to where I had left his phone and picked it up. After turning it on, I walked back toward him and held it up.

“See? Your phone is here, and the money in your wallet is inta_”

I stopped.

Oh shit.

His eyes narrowed.

“Okay... I took out a few bills to tip the staff who helped me carry you in, but I promise to replace them.”

“U. N. T. I. E. M. E!”

I flinched. “I am going to need you to promise me that you aren’t going to hurt me.”

“I promise.”

Of course he would agree to anything to be free.

“I am going to give you the benefit of the doubt.” Walking over to the first knot, I untied it.

He immediately pulled his hand away roughly, reaching for the second knot. The moment it came free, his frown deepened.

Shit!

“I already apologized. All of this is nothing but a g_”

He suddenly slammed his hand over my mouth, silencing me.

His other hand came up, his index finger pressed against his lips as he motioned for me to be quiet.

My eyes widened.

“What are you doing?” I mumbled against his palm. “Let me g_”

I couldn’t even finish the words before loud, rapid gunshots suddenly filled the room, bullets flying past us with terrifying speed.

I screamed against his palm.

The stranger immediately grabbed me and yanked me down.
