Chapter 3 The Crazy Girl

ADRIAN

Going to Ethan’s house was strictly for negotiation. Nothing prepared me for being drugged and dragged to heaven knows where by a woman who is barely half my size.

I don’t even know how the hell she managed to tie me so tightly, and now, thanks to her, I am hiding under a fucking bed with her to avoid a bullet to both our heads.

“Why are we getting shot at?!” she screamed, tears rolling down her face.

“Where is my phone?” I hissed, regretting why I had to leave my gun in my car last night.

She quickly handed it to me with trembling hands and I typed out a message to Marco.

I AM UNDER A FUCKING ATTACK. FIND MY LOCATION AND SEND BACKUP.

Hitting send, I turned to the shivering lady beside me.

“Stay down.”

Too stunned to speak, all she could do was stare unblinkingly at me, tears continuously rolling down her face.

The sound of gunshots gradually, I waited for a few seconds, listening carefully.

Nothing.

Slowly, I crawled out from under the bed and over to the broken vases scattered across the floor. I picked up a piece with a sharp, pointed end and tightened my grip around it before heading toward the door.

The approaching footsteps told me that whoever had been shooting was coming over to confirm if the job was done.

Of course, the bastard wasn’t going to take any chances.

I pressed myself against the wall beside the door and waited, my grip tightening around the broken piece of glass.

The moment he stepped inside, I grabbed his hand, yanked him further into the room, and drove the sharp edge across his throat.

He gurgled, staggering backward as blood sprayed across the floor.

A series of gunshots went off outside, forcing me to move quickly.

I caught his collapsing body and used it as a shield, dragging him all the way toward the bed where the crazy lady was still hiding.

“Stay down!” I barked.

She let out a frightened whimper but immediately ducked lower.

Another bullet tore through the room, striking the wall above us.

Fuck.

They are still coming, and judging by the number of footsteps approaching, there were more of them than I could handle alone.

Dropping his body, I took his gun and checked the magazine.

“This should be enough.”

I turned to her. “Come on, we’re leaving through the win_”

Lost in the sight before her, she stared at the lifeless man riddled with too many bullet holes, his blood forming a puddle beneath him. Her eyes grew wider and wider by the second before she suddenly turned to the side and emptied her stomach.

I rolled my eyes.

Not in the mood for her bullshit, I grabbed her hand and hurried toward the window.

“Are we jumping?”

Obviously. “On the count of two.”

She peered out the window and immediately shook her head. “I am going to break my le_”

The door banged open.

I quickly grabbed her around the waist and shoved us both through the window.

Wrapping my body around hers, I took the impact of the fall, hitting the ground hard with her landing on top of me.

A sharp pain shot through my back.

I could barely draw in a breath when another gunshot rang out.

Pain exploded through my arm.

I looked down and saw blood seeping through my sleeve.

Fuck. He hit me.

Turning toward the direction of the gunshot, I raised the weapon and fired.

The bullet struck him straight in the head and he dropped dead.

“Why are they shooting at us?!” the crazy woman screamed as I grabbed her hand and dragged her across the garden toward the car parked in the driveway.

“Less talking. More moving.”

She stumbled behind me, barely keeping up as I pulled her along.

Reaching the car, I crouched beside the driver’s door and picked the lock. The moment it clicked open, I shoved her inside.

“Get in.”

She scrambled into the passenger seat.

I climbed, started the engine before speeding away from the cabin.

She slowly turned toward me, staring with wide eyes. “Did you just steal a car?”

I glared at her. “You kidnapped a full-grown man, and you’re worried about me borrowing someone’s car?”

Glancing quickly at the side mirror, I noticed the black sedan following us, which suddenly slammed into us just as I was about to take a turn.

The force sent the crazy lady beside me flying toward the windshield. Apparently, she was more interested in screaming her lungs out than actually snapping her seatbelt into place.

Her head hit the dashboard with a sickening thud before she slumped forward, unconscious.

“Fuck!”

My phone rang in my pocket.

Quickly fishing it out, I swiped to answer Marco’s call.

“We already sent backup,” he blurted out. “Can you see the red car?”

I glanced at the rear-view mirror. Sure enough, a red car had just appeared behind me.

“Yes, I do.”

“Focus on getting back. They’ll handle those bastards.”

I glanced at the unconscious lady beside me, blood trickling down her forehead.

“Get Dr. Landon to the manor.”

“Shit! Where were you shot?”

I’ll survive. “Yes, I was shot.”

“What the fuck are you doing four hours away from the city with no backup, Adrian?”

Because I thought I was going to have a conversation with my brother, not become a fucking kidnap victim.

I tightened my grip around the steering wheel and stepped harder on the accelerator.

Fuck it.

Marco is not going to let me live through this.

Three hours later, I pulled into the manor driveway, and Marco, along with the rest of my men, rushed toward me.

He reached for my arm, immediately examining the cloth I had tied over the bullet wound.

“How deep is it?”

I shrugged. “You should have Landon look at her.”

“Her who?” His eyes moved to the passenger seat, and his brows furrowed. “Who the fuck is that?”

“Ethan’s girlfriend.”

His brows shot up to his hairline.

He stepped aside as my men carefully carried her out of the car and into the manor so Landon could take a look at her.

“How did you end up four hours away and with her?”

God! Even thinking about it makes me feel like a fool.

“She abducted me, thinking I was Ethan.”

His jaw dropped. “The tiny lady abducted you?”

I ignored him and stomped toward the house.“Find out who attacked us.”

“I think I’m more interested in the other story,” Marco teased, hurrying after me. “You went to see your twin brother, but you got abducted by his girlfriend because she thought you were him, and now you’re also abducting and possibly keeping her hostage because she saw you kill someone, so letting her go isn’t exactly an option right now.”

I stopped and turned to him, fighting the urge to hit his smirking face. “Shut the fuck up and find out everything there is to know about her.”
