Chapter 3: Threatened Miscarriage

Emma's POV

"Ahhh!"

I screamed in agony and rolled off the bed, crashing onto the floor.

My body convulsed uncontrollably.

That sticky, warm liquid kept flowing from between my legs, staining the carpet beneath me a bloody red.

No, nothing can happen to my baby!

I struggled, supporting my body with my elbows, crawling toward the phone at the edge of the bed.

Such a short distance, yet I crawled until I was drenched in sweat, my vision darkening.

I unlocked my phone and instinctively dialed Klaus's number.

But after a few seconds, the call was disconnected.

"No... Klaus, how could you do this to me?" Tears of despair streamed down my face.

Perhaps I shouldn't have pinned my hopes on Klaus in the first place.

He was with Nancy right now. How could Nancy possibly let him answer my call?

I lay in a pool of blood, my fingers hurting so badly I could barely hold the phone.

Once again, I lit up the screen and found Daisy's number.

The call connected quickly.

"Hello? Emma? It's so late, why are you calling me?"

Daisy's sleepy voice came through the phone.

"Save me, Daisy, I can't hold on..."

My voice was weak from the pain, nearly losing consciousness.

"What? Emma, speak clearly! What's wrong?"

Daisy's voice instantly rose several decibels.

"My stomach hurts so much, I'm bleeding heavily, I think I'm having a miscarriage..."

"I'm at Golden Moon Manor, please come quickly..."

I no longer had the strength to finish speaking. The phone slipped from my hand and fell onto the carpet.

Daisy's anxious voice came through the phone.

She was shouting, but I could no longer hear what she was saying. Those sounds grew increasingly distant and blurred.

Finally, my vision went black, and I completely lost consciousness.

When I woke again, I smelled the pungent odor of disinfectant.

I opened my eyes to see a white ceiling and Daisy's face, etched with worry.

She was on the verge of tears.

"Emma! You're finally awake!"

My consciousness gradually returned, and I immediately reached for my stomach.

"Daisy, is my baby okay? Is he still alive?"

I looked at her anxiously, my heart pounding wildly, terrified of hearing bad news.

She grabbed my hand, her voice choked with sobs.

"Your baby is fine, Emma! Thank God!"

I was so moved I nearly cried. As long as my child was safe, I could rest easy.

"But Emma, I must remind you of something."

I tensed up again.

"The ultrasound shows clear signs of threatened miscarriage. During this time, you must stay in the hospital and rest properly. You can only be discharged once we confirm everything is okay."

"How could this happen?"

I struggled to sit up, and a sharp pain immediately shot through my lower abdomen.

Daisy quickly supported me and placed two pillows behind my back.

"I had an ultrasound yesterday and the baby was in great condition. Just one night..."

My head buzzed, and I finally understood.

It was because of Klaus.

Daisy looked at me, her eyes filled with both heartache and anger.

"Why did this happen? Emma, don't you understand yet?!"

"I examined you. Did you sleep with Klaus again?"

I lowered my head in shame.

"Emma! Have you forgotten what your condition is? You're a werewolf without a wolf. You're more fragile than any ordinary female werewolf!"

Her words struck my heart like a heavy hammer.

"I've told you many times that the fetus is most unstable during the first three months of pregnancy. Tell me, did Klaus force you?"

I said nothing, which was tantamount to admitting everything.

"He was drunk tonight."

"Damn it!" Daisy cursed.

"You're always like this, always putting Klaus first, satisfying him before anything else, never considering your own body's condition. When will you think about yourself and your child?"

"Daisy, I know I was wrong."

I had almost lost my child. Nothing terrified me more than that.

I grabbed her hand and swore, "This will never happen again. I'll do everything in my power to protect this baby."

Seeing my distressed state, Daisy's anger subsided slightly.

"And where is Klaus? You hemorrhaged so badly. As an Alpha, as the child's father, where did he go?"

"When I rushed to Golden Moon Manor, he wasn't in the room. Did he just leave after sleeping with you?"

I remembered the scene before I passed out, when Klaus heartlessly abandoned me.

And those photos Nancy had sent me.

My stomach hadn't hurt right after making love with Klaus. It was those photos that triggered everything.

At this thought, I could no longer hold back and broke down crying.

Daisy was very anxious.

"What happened? Pregnancy should be a happy thing. Why has it turned out like this?"

"Daisy, Klaus wants to divorce me."

"What?!"

I told her everything that had happened.

"Nancy is such a shameless bitch!" Daisy cursed furiously.

"And Klaus! I never imagined he could be such a cold-blooded, cruel Alpha! Emma, you're carrying his child! Yet he still wants to divorce you for another woman! Has he lost his mind?!"

I shook my head and sighed.

"I didn't get the chance to tell him about the pregnancy before he left."

"You..."

Daisy's voice was interrupted by a phone ringtone.

It was Klaus calling.

His furious questioning came through the phone.

"Emma, where did you run off to?!"

"I came back to the manor and found you gone! Are you deliberately hiding from me to avoid the divorce?"

His voice was full of commands and the overwhelming pressure of an Alpha.

I gripped the phone tightly.

He continued questioning, "And what about the blood on the bed and carpet?!"

Daisy was very agitated beside me. She grabbed my phone.

"Klaus, Emma is in the hospital right now."

"What? Why is she at the hospital?" Klaus asked in shock.

I quickly grabbed her hand and shook my head at her.

Klaus was in a state of rage right now.

I wasn't sure what this child meant to him yet, so I couldn't tell him.

I lied to Klaus, "I got my period, so I accidentally stained the sheets. My body felt a bit uncomfortable, so I came to the hospital for a checkup."

Klaus let out a mocking, cold laugh.

"Emma, you're really calculating. Seeing Nancy is sick, you've learned to fake illness to win my pity?"

His mockery made my whole body tremble.

He clearly saw all that blood, yet he still thought I was faking?

Tears slid down my face, and my heart ached so badly I could barely breathe.

A woman's voice came through the phone.

It was Nancy acting coquettish.

"Klaus, can I live at Golden Moon Manor from now on?"
