After I Gave Up on My Ice-Cold Husband and Son
Lily · Completed · 10.0k Words
Introduction
Chapter 1
I spent six years trying to warm an emotionally distant husband and raising a son who learned to copy his coldness. On the day my civil assault case went to trial, they flew to Switzerland to comfort my husband's ex-girlfriend. When my five-year-old admitted he had deleted the strongest video evidence because he didn't want Vanessa to cry, the last bit of love in me went quiet. By the time they realized a wife and mother could stop chasing them, I had already chosen divorce, distance, and a life that belonged to me.
——
Gideon Cole and our five-year-old son returned from Switzerland a week after my trial.
They arrived at ten at night carrying duty-free bags, as if expensive chocolate and a toy airplane could erase the empty seats beside my attorney in court.
Gideon loosened his tie and rubbed the bridge of his nose. He looked tired, but not ashamed.
"Vanessa was having a hard time," he said. "If something like this happens again, we'll be there."
Tate stood beside him with his back straight and his expression carefully blank, a miniature copy of his father.
"Dad and I brought you presents," he said. "So don't make a big deal out of it, okay?"
"Okay."
I accepted the bag and set it on the entry table without opening it.
No shouting. No questions. No tears.
For years, I had fought every time Gideon chose Vanessa Hart over me. I had demanded explanations until my throat hurt. I had cried behind locked bathroom doors, then washed my face and gone back to packing Tate's lunch.
That night, I simply went upstairs.
My silence should have made their lives easier. Instead, it seemed to unsettle them.
Two days later, I met my friend Maya and her six-year-old son, Noah, at a local café. Maya was scrolling through TikTok her iced coffee sweating on the table between us.
"Listen to this," she said. "Apparently the internet has decided you should never date someone with a long-term ex. One text from the ex and—boom—factory recall."
She gave me a pointed look. "Gideon dated Vanessa for seven years. You might want to keep an eye on him."
I picked up my cup and laughed.
"Why would I care? If she wants a recall, she can take the whole bundle."
Maya's hand froze, her straw halfway to her lips.
I added, "I'm done with both of them."
Something struck the floor behind me.
I turned.
Gideon and Tate stood two steps away. A small gift bag lay at Gideon's feet.
Tate's face had gone white. He stared at me as if the woman who tucked him in every night had vanished while he wasn't looking.
Gideon's expression barely changed, but the tendons in his hand tightened around his car keys.
After a long silence, he held out his hand.
"Claire," he said. "We're taking you home."
The gesture was so absurd that I almost laughed.
In six years of marriage, Gideon had rarely driven me anywhere. At the company, he said we needed professional distance. In public, he worried someone might recognize him. I had once begged him to pick me up when I was sick, and he had sent a driver.
Now he opened the passenger door himself.
The seat was pushed far forward. I moved it back to fit my legs, thinking of Vanessa's smaller frame.
In the back seat, Tate touched a pink cat charm on his backpack. The yellow Pikachu keychain I had bought him was gone.
"Vanessa gave me this," he announced.
He watched my face, waiting.
"If you don't like it, I guess I could—"
"It's fine." I checked a message from Maya. "You can keep it."
Tate froze.
Gideon glanced at me, then returned his attention to the road.
Several blocks passed in silence.
"How did the trial go?" he asked at last.
"We're waiting on the judge's decision. My attorney thinks the remaining evidence gives us a chance."
His fingers tapped twice against the steering wheel.
At the next red light, he said, "I know you're angry that Tate and I missed the trial."
I looked out the window.
"After Monday's leadership meeting, I'll announce our marriage to the company."
He said it like a concession. Like he was placing something rare and precious in my hands.
Once, I would have cried from relief.
Now all I could think was, Please don't.

The Rejected Luna’s Rise
Luna Ariana Volkstane slid the formal rejection request across the table. "Let's end this bond. It's better for you, me, and your first love."
He just smirked. "You want me to reject you? You think you can break our bond that easily?"
So she did. Ariana cut ties with him completely, poured herself into her career, and rose to global fame as a legendary healer, her knowledge of rare herbs, wolf anatomy, and ancient magic sought after across continents.
The powerful suitors lined up. The Alpha of an overseas empire whispered, "Ariana, hurry up and perform the severing ritual. I can't wait to claim you." A powerful pack leader vowed, "I'll be there with you the day you break the bond." A legendary wolf attorney promised, "I'll handle your rejection case with the pack council myself."
Ariana just rubbed her temples. It's not that she didn't want the split, she wanted it more than anything, it's just that the Alpha she was mated to refused to let go.
Finally, she announced, "Whoever can officially get me rejected, I'll put you at the head table of my bond-breaking celebration."
Not long after, Alpha Damian was served the official rejection request right in the middle of an emergency pack council meeting. That same afternoon, he was attacked by rogues at the gates of his own territory.
When Ariana showed up at the pack infirmary with healing herbs, she repeated calmly, "Let's sever the mate bond. It's better for you, me, and everyone else."
But the cold, untouchable Alpha pulled her into his arms, his eyes blood-red with fury. "You want me to reject you? Over my dead body."

Those words should have destroyed me, but the truth was worse: I'd been used as a broodmare by the man who swore to love me, set up in a hotel room with a stranger because My husband Alexander Cross couldn't father children himself, and now I carried the secret babies of Damon Lester—the most powerful and dangerous Alpha in San Loris—while my own family replaced me with the daughter they'd always wanted. Tango 2 the Alpha's Heart
My gaze snapped to his. He was smiling, causing my heart to skip a painful beat. Before I could respond, the music began, and my body instinctively reacted to the sweet melody.
I found myself molded to Lex's will, my feet irresistibly following the dance steps.
The crowd gasped as Lex pulled me into a more intimate position, his hands roaming over my body in a seductive manner.
The experience was both terrifying and magical, allowing me to feel every longing emotion through the dance.
I soon found myself lost in his arms.
When the music finally stopped, my arms were wrapped around his neck, his hands resting on my back, our noses almost touching. He gazed deeply into my eyes.
The ballroom fell silent.
Was he about to kiss me?

"What?"
Before I can react, he scoops her up. Her small body fits easily in the cradle of his talons. For a split second, she looks startled, but not afraid. Her hand rests against one scaled finger, and she stares up at him with that same curious wonder, as though she’s already forgotten she was ever meant to fear me.
