Chapter 10 Ten

Calista's POV

" Coming from someone who's planning to mate a female who isn't his fated mate," I said calmly

My hard gaze held his.

My wolf immediately retreated.

She was still hurt from his words and decision to mate another female who wasn't us.

His eyes flashed black but they turned normal in seconds.

" What did you just say?" He asked in a soft tone. His leg is moving closer.

" Repeat what you just said." His eyes stared into my soul and I moved a step back to put space between us.

I was sure he didn't want anyone seeing us in a compromising position.

" You heard me loud and clear. Alpha Zane." I said and he nodded.

He didn't move his steps further but his aqua green eyes didn't leave me either.

" If you'll excuse me. I would like to return to the party." I started my steps but he grabbed my arm, forcing my steps to halt.

" You don't walk out on me." His grip tightened.

The mate bond ignited. Sparks ran through my veins and Isla growled in my head.

My body stiffened and he moved closer. His face pulled closer to mine. My body went numb.

" If you don't want me tearing anyone into shreds then stay away from those unmated males." He threatened in a cold dark tone.

" Have you forgotten you rejected the mate bond between us?" I raised a brow. Trying so hard to keep my composure and not melt in his arms like a love-sick whore.

" Who put that idea in your head, Calista?" He chuckled, his hot breath fanning my face.

The sound of my name coming from him made Isla growl silently in my head.

" Maybe you did and I have accepted that a long time ago," I replied with a straight face and his eyes darkened.

" Maybe I should have locked you up when I had the chance."

"Too late for that, Alpha Zane." I tilted my head to the side.

He was everything they said he was. A psychopathic beast who thought the world was under his feet.

" Zane." A deep voice called.

I looked up but he didn't.

A man walked towards us with a hard expression on his face.

He was the infamous beta Sternly. The demon who walks beside the Alpha of Alphas.

" Be careful, you don't want to push me." He leaned closer and whispered in my ear. His hot breath blushed against my sensitive skin.

My insides twisted, not painful but weirdly indicating how much effect he has on me.

He stepped back, looking deep into my eyes with a dark smirk.

" Let's go, Starnly." He told his beta who bowed his head to me before following him back to the hall.

I let out a breath I didn't know I was holding in.

When Alpha Thomas acknowledged him a few minutes ago in the hall. I felt the hair behind my neck jump up because I didn't anticipate he would show up at such a small gathering.

Not like I would have done anything different if I had known but maybe I would have been more prepared instead of being taken by surprise.

Ray returned with information regarding my uncle.

He was already making his moves especially now that I wasn't in the pack.

Ray and I returned to the hall. The birthday cake was already being cut and Zane was standing right behind Mariam, Alpha Thomas's daughter.

She seemed familiar with him given how she was looking and smiling at him.

Something inside me burned.

I wasn't sure what I was looking at but Zane was more despicable than I thought.

Just how many females were under his spell?

The cake was cut and the dance floor soon crowded.

Zane was out of my sight. He left before the dance floor opened.

Alpha Stephen, the young alpha of the Night pack requested a dance and I didn't say no.

It was a chance to pick up our conversation from where we stopped.

" What would you say to an invitation to my pack?" He asked, looking straight into my eyes.

" Depends," I stated and he smiled charmingly.

He was young and good-looking. Night pack was one of the packs located at the east and it was one of the oldest packs in the country.

Stephen's father stepped down three years ago for him to take over.

" Night pack is ready to sign an alliance with the Crystal pack if that is what you want." He proposed and I chuckled.

" How did you know what I wanted?" I asked and he spun me around, holding my fingers.

His left hand landed back on my waist.

" You are beautiful." He changed the subject with ease and a smile on his face.

" You are the most beautiful goddess I have ever seen." His gaze cast upon me with a soft grace.

" You are the first female to take my breath away." His hand tightened around my waist.

" Are you flirting with me?"

" What if I am?" He didn't deny it.

" You are two years younger than me," I told him and his smile deepened.

" Is that what this is to you?" He asked cunningly.

" Fate has a way of uniting people and I might be one of the fortunate people." I looked up into his eyes with a small smile before looking away.

" I'm glad I finally made you smile."

The dance continued.

I excused myself when I saw Alpha Thomas leaving the hall.

I wanted the alliance thing settled as soon as possible.

The minute I strode out of the hall a strong hand grabbed me and pulled me to one of the pillars.

My back slammed against the hard pillar." You looked happy in there." He growled and I almost rolled my eyes.

" Is that a problem?" I spoke before I could stop myself.

" Zane?" A feminine voice cut through the night air.

Zane and I both turned our heads.

It was Mariam.

Alpha Thomas daughter.
