Chapter 17 Seventeen
Zane’s POV
She was everything I needed to conquer the world.
She was power. She was the perfect weapon to break every boundary I had always wanted to break. The right mate I needed by my side, but why was I hesitating to claim her when I could easily do so?
The mate bond was still active and alive. All I needed was to push a little and she would be mine. Her power, body, and soul.
It had been barely twenty-four hours since I left her pack and all I could remember was that powerful silver wolf that stood in front of me fearlessly.
Her fierce golden eyes.
I sipped my drink with my gaze stuck out the window. "I have called the pack doctor and he is on his way." Sternly stepped into my office.
I looked down at my injured chest, which was closing gradually.
"That is not necessary," I said and Sternly stepped further in.
"You need to have it checked before it heals," he insisted and I turned to look at him.
"Say whatever you want to say, Sternly, or leave." I growled slightly and he cleared his throat.
"Why aren't you claiming her?" He asked and I sipped my drink.
Exactly what I had been asking myself. Why wasn't I trying to win her, knowing her wolf fucking wanted me?
"The goddess didn't only bless you with a true mate, but she also handed you power on a silver platter."
"With her, it's easy to get rid of those bastards, shut everyone up, and earn your grandfather's respect."
Earning my grandfather's respect meant reclaiming my birthright as the ruler of the Central Kingdom.
I shut my eyes to let myself think but it wasn't possible. Her scent.
Fuck!
Her voice and her eyes.
Calista, what the fuck have you done to me?
"I rejected her, Sternly," I said and he looked down.
I didn't regret rejecting her because I never meant to let her go.
"She is your fated mate." I knew what he meant.
"She is not a stupid woman, Sternly." Calista was everything but certainly not stupid.
"How about we use the bond?" I turned to look at him.
I shook my head slightly before letting out a sigh.
"Let's not push it. We will be heading to the Central Kingdom this weekend." I told him and I lazily sipped my drink.
"How long are we staying there?" Sternly asked and I shrugged.
"Days." I replied while staring into space and Sternly stepped backward.
"I will make the necessary inquiries." He walked out of my office.
Central Kingdom was an ancient world, the very pack that had existed for as long as werewolves had existed.
It was the first pack that ever existed before the werewolf population started increasing.
Lands were secured across the world and packs were built to accommodate the growing population.
A lot of packs were built at that time and each of them was ruled by alphas. Each of the alphas represented the bloodline of the seventy-nine council of elders in the Central Kingdom that were said to be direct descendants of Selena.
The moon goddess.
My father was one. He was lucky to get mated to one of the seven princesses of the Central Kingdom.
I shifted from the window and back into my seat.
I pulled out files and started to review them.
After my mother got pregnant with their second child, my father stupidly brought in his fated mate who was carrying his pup.
Fortunately for him, she died on her delivery bed with the child.
I was only nine.
And when I turned seventeen, I took my pound of flesh. I slaughtered him and his mate in their sleep.
I sent their daughter to the alpha of the Mountain Pack as a seal to our alliance.
And fuck, I didn't regret any of the things I had done.
I leaned back in my seat and gradually shut my eyes.
By the time the doctor arrived, the injury was barely open.
He wanted to clean what was left and apply medicine on it but I objected.
I left my office and went into my room to get a shower.
I still smelled like those bastards who attacked the Crystal Pack.
I fought beside her like we were meant to, and aside from Sternly, I would say we made a great team.
She was the second person who could actually fight beside me.
The thought brought a smile to my lips.
It was the weekend and we had to head to the Central Kingdom to meet my grandfather.
Sternly had already made inquiries and it appeared I wasn't the only one with the invitation to Central kingdom.
The old man had called for all of us, his descendants.
Sternly and I left the Blue Moon Pack in a private jet with only two of my warriors tagging along.
My gamma was left behind to take handle things in the pack until my returned.
I just hoped it wasn't another one of his family reunion wishes because if it turned out like that, I wouldn't hesitate to walk away.
It was dark when we arrived in the pack. As always, the mansion was loaded with warriors.
The old beta led us into the large dining area where my grandfather and the rest of the family were already seated at the long dining table that had nothing less than sixteen chairs around it.
"Finally," Ronan said as I halted and slowly shoved my hands into my pockets.
My gaze was on my grandfather, who only nodded at me to sit.
I sat, finally casting my gaze around the table unhurriedly until they settled on Ronan.
The alpha of the Northern pack.
"You kept us waiting," he said, the son of the second princess of the Central Kingdom.
He and I had been nothing but mortal enemies.
And to think he was my grandfather's favorite made me want to kill him.
"I don't see anyone fucking waiting." I said and my grandfather growled.
"Zane Bluemede." My grandfather cleared his throat.
"Enjoy your meal, Alpha Quin." I got up from my seat and adjusted my long jacket. "You are not allowed to walk out of this room." He scolded and I chuckled.
"Show me to my room, beta," I said to the old man who looked at my grandfather before stepping aside for me to take the lead.
