Chapter 2 Chapter Two
ALPHA XANDER'S POV
The sound of the rain falling was a welcome comfort in the darkness of my office. I never liked the rain....I still don't. It always came with bad events but Evelyn seemed to find the beauty in it and so I was forced to endure, listening to the sound of rain falls with her. But what I would give to have such moments with her again. To hear her voice, breathe in her scent and just hold her in my arms. I'dove the world, wage wars with the pack breaking alliances if it'll give me one last opportunity to be with her again.
But alas....none of that would bring her back. I had learnt. Not even the killing rampage after her death did. I heard footsteps outside my door before a knock came.
"Come in" I said out and the door opened. Hayden stood inside my office, rooted at the same spot for a long time. Probably trying to get used to the darkness.
"What do you want?" I asked impatiently.
"The rain hasn't stopped"
"I can tell that Hayden" I said, annoyed that my gamma was stating the obvious. He didn't think me defective right?
"About the meetings. I'll have to move them"
"Good thinking Hayden. There's so much we can achieve with the damned rain. Where's Gabriel?" Is rather deal with him even though he got on my nerves. But he wasn't stupid.
"He hasn't returned to the pack since he left earlier" I nodded.
"That will be all Hayden. You may leave now" he hesitated but he was done closing the door softly. He was efficient on some areas but utterly useless sometimes. It'll be a bother to change him and deal with a new replacement that's why he still had his position till now.
He was always jumpy and it made it difficult to work with him or just have him in my presence when all I wanted to do was.... The door flew open and Gabriel scent filled my office. I said nothing as he panted loud, waiting for an explanation.
"There has been an issue"
"What is it?"
"Leo...." I was on my feet immediately, wolf alert and eager to know what happened to our pup.
"He took advantage of the rain and left his room"
"No...who the fuck was supposed to be watching him?How did he get out of their sight? They had just one fucking job to do"
"They tucked him into sleep through the rain and...."
"All I hear is you giving me damn excuses to me so I don't punish them. I'm going to do that regardless of what you say. Now my son, what the fuck happened to him?"
"He was chased by rogues" I snarled, advancing towards him.
"We got there...he's safe. A woman protected him" I scowled at that. What woman could it be?
"Where is he now?"
"The infirmary. You...." I pushed past him not caring for the rest of his words.
They were meaningless to me and I just wanted to see my son and confirm he is okay. My heart jumped in my chest. The last, breathing reminder of me and Evelyn's love. The only reason I had not given into the madness. If anything happened to him...I came to an abrupt halt at the entrance of the sterile hall. The smell of drugs and herbs heavy in the air. But it wasn't just that....another scent was thick in the air.
It was a blend of citrus, vanilla and honey suckle. The scent heavy and made me stagger on my feet. I'd never smelled something as good as it and my feet followed it, my brain emptied of any other thoughts. Just my primal instinct to find that scent, who it belonged to and why it was in this building.
I pushed the door open and my eyes landed on a woman. I couldn't see her face since it was covered by her ginger hair. She was holding something....no someone. My son. My brain cleared in that instant. He was the reason I'd come here. But why was he with this strange woman despite his aversion to strangers touch.
With slow momentum, her head lifted up and our eyes met. I was shocked by the instant connection. The sizzling electricity that passed through us from just a simple glance. My brain was telling me something but I wasn't listening. It couldn't be possible.
"Alpha" I looked away to meet the puzzled eyes of Dr Elderman.
"Leo is safe and unharmed. Only little scratches on his feet but they'll heal in no time"
"Leo" my voice cut through the terse silence that followed after Elderman was done speaking. He looked up at me, a strange glint in his eyes and then he was burying his face back into the crook of her neck. Rage boiled through me.
"What have you done to my son?" She looked baffled at that question. Her lack of response was getting on my nerves, all things put aside.
"What's that supposed to mean?" She asked in a sharp voice, lips drawn together. My eyes followed them as they moved, my body coming alive in a way I thought it would never repeat itself. What kind of sick joke was the moon goddess playing. Why did she bring me a fucking mate. Someone I didn't fucking want.
"Alpha"
"What?" I snapped at Gabriel who had come too close.
"Anna saved Leo from the rogues"
Her name was Anna....Damn! That was none of my business. She was a fucking rogue and I wanted her far away from me as soon as possible.
"I want her gone"
"She suffered some injuries and we brought her back to treat her and Leo won't...."
"I don't care what the fuck you..."
"What a way to thank the person who saved the life of your son" she barked, glaring me down. Who the fuck did she think she was to talk to me in such a manner.
"Are you talking to me?"
"There's no one else here spewing shit. Is there?" My wolf growled with amusement but I was fuming down right disrespected by the little bitch who spoke to me without regards to my title.
I took a challenging step towards her and she stood to her full height. She barely reached my chest but gave me a formidable posture. It was almost laughable that she thought she could disrespect me but I was reeling at the disrespect and all I thought of was the way I could punish her.
"Come down Leo" I said to my son. If I was going to deal with her, I didn't want him in the way. Leo didn't respond.
"Leo" I called again putting more force in my voice but he acted like he didn't hear me.
"Leo" I called again, reaching out to grab him but she pulled away, snarling at me while cradling him.
"He's not one of your men. He's a child" I halted at her, biting my tongue to keep my words in.
"Hey kid you have to come down now" she said in a soft voice....too soft. She tried to set him down but he clung tightly to her.
"Mama" he said and my blood ran cold.
