Chapter 235
Alexander POV
I checked my watch for what felt like the hundredth time. It was almost noon, and I had hoped to meet Sabrina and Lexie an hour ago. The plan had been simple: a shopping trip to get everything they would need for their big move to the Rowandwood pack.
Lexie was excited about starting school there, and Sabrina seemed eager to settle in, to build a new life away from the mess that had plagued us all. It was meant to be a day of distractions—of normalcy.
But as I sat in the car, waiting for them, a strange unease began to gnaw at me. Sabrina was never late—not like this. And when I tried calling, it went straight to voicemail.
The first time, I told myself not to worry, that something could have come up, but as the minutes passed and my phone screen remained silent, that unease only grew stronger.
I grabbed my phone again, dialing her number for the third time in the last half hour. Still no answer.
Frustration bubbled to the surface, and I could feel my wolf stir within me, sensing the tension in the air. Something was wrong.
I could feel it in my gut, that deep, primal instinct telling me that I was on the brink of something dangerous.
I ended the call and quickly hit the speed dial for August. The phone rang several times before he picked up.
“August,” I said, my voice curt, “I need you to track Sabrina and Lexie. Now.”
There was a pause on the other end, a moment of hesitation, before August’s voice came back through, low and serious. “I’ll get right on it.”
I hung up the phone and leaned back in my seat, my jaw clenched. My mind raced with the possibilities.
Sabrina had always been resourceful. If something had happened, she would have done whatever she could to protect herself and Lexie. But I couldn’t shake the feeling that something more sinister was at play here.
My thoughts drifted to Diana. I knew she had no love for Sabrina, but I never once thought she would go this far. Still, the fact that Diana had become more erratic lately—more unpredictable—left a lingering doubt in my mind.
A few minutes later, my phone buzzed with a message from August: Found her. She’s with Diana’s in the capital. Location sent.
I didn’t hesitate. I hit the gas pedal, the engine roaring to life beneath me as I sped toward the address August had provided.
Ella POV
I was on the phone with my father, speaking in hushed tones, when Alexander burst through the door, his face tight with worry.
“What happened?” I asked, immediately sensing the tension in his demeanor. I could feel my own heart rate pick up, my instincts kicking in. Something wasn’t right.
“They haven’t shown up, Ella. Sabrina and Lexie… they’re missing,” he said, running a hand through his hair. “I’ve got their location but… ”
His voice trailed off, and I could see the frustration and helplessness in his eyes. This was exactly what we had been dreading. We waited too long and now someone had taken them.
They were going to get hurt because of us.
The realization hit me like a punch to the gut. Lexie was just a child. The terror I felt for her safety was consuming. I could barely catch my breath.
“If you have their location then what are you doing here?” I asked in confusion. “We have to go to them! We have to–
“No!” he said sharply. “I have to go. You need to get to the safehouse. August is on his way up to take you.”
“Hell no!” I said angrily. “I’m not letting you go alone! Who knows what danger you could be walking into?”
“I know,” he answered tightly. “And that’s exactly why you aren’t coming.”
I shook my head, anger and frustration almost blinding me for a moment. “We aren’t doing this,” I said sternly. “You are not going to push me away now. I have stood by you through everything! I have forgiven everything! You will not push me away now when you need me most!”
He stared at me silently and I could see the tension in his muscles as he stood completely still. Then a low growl escaped him.
“We don’t have time for this,” he said. “Let’s go.”
Without hesitation I followed Alexander as he turned and ran out the door. We went as fast as we could, bypassing the elevator and going down the stairs.
In minutes we were in the car, racing through the streets towards the warehouse district on the outskirts of the city.
We were both silent as we drove through the streets, our minds racing with possibilities.
I had no idea what we were racing towards, but if Lexie was there and in danger then nothing would keep me away.
My wolf was just beneath the surface, still riled up from the confrontation with Diana the previous day. If she had anything to do with this…
When we arrived at the location August had provided, we parked on a side street and approached the building cautiously. It was an old industrial complex, the kind of place people went to when they didn’t want to be found.
I could feel the weight of the air around us, thick with tension.
“Stay close,” Alexander muttered to me, keeping his voice low.
We moved together through the unlocked entrance, my eyes scanning for any signs of life. I heard a faint sound—a door creaking open—just as we reached the front.
There, standing in the dim light, was Sabrina. She was clutching Lexie to her chest, her face pale, her eyes wide with fear. Diana was standing next to them, her hands folded in front of her like she was waiting for something.
But it was the man standing behind her that made my stomach drop. He was a stranger to me, but somehow I knew from the aura he carried exactly who he was.
Ironfang.
His dark eyes glinted in the light, a smile playing on his lips as he saw us.
“You really should have stayed out of this, Alexander,” Ironfang said, his voice dripping with venom.
Diana turned to us, her expression unreadable, but her eyes—those cold, calculating eyes—betrayed the hint of something darker. She wasn’t scared. Not at all.
“Diana…” I started, my voice sharp with disbelief. “What is this? What are you doing?”
She tilted her head, feigning innocence. “I’m just making sure everyone knows where their loyalties should lie.”
I could feel Alexander’s presence next to me, the tension radiating from him like a low hum. Sabrina’s grip on Lexie tightened, but she remained silent, too afraid to speak.
Ironfang stepped forward, his movements deliberate. “It’s simple, Alexander. The game is over. I’ve let it go on for too long, and now I’m here to end it.”
We had to stop this, and fast.
“Leave them alone,” Alexander said, his voice cold. It was the voice of the Ice King, but it did nothing to intimidate the other man. “Whatever your game is, it ends now.”
But Ironfang just smiled, a smile that sent a chill down my spine. I could see that Alexander was hesitating, not sure of what to do. This situation was beyond dangerous.
It almost felt hopeless.
We had to find a way to save Lexie, but how?
