Chapter 250
Ella POV
The night we had been working towards for so long was finally here. It didn’t seem real, but it was finally happening.
It was election night.
All day Alexander and I had been answering questions from reporters and making phonecalls to voters, hoping to get as many people as possible to show up at the polls.
The results of the election were coming in, and the energy in the room was electric. Alexander and I had chosen to host a poll watching event in the elegant event space within the building, a place that felt both intimate and celebratory.
Chandeliers glowed overhead, the golden light bouncing off the bubbling champagne flutes clutched in excited hands. At the front of the room, a large projector screen displayed the latest vote counts, each update met with murmurs, cheers, or anxious whispers.
August had taken charge of the event, ensuring that everything ran smoothly. He moved through the crowd with ease, redirecting reporters, managing the flow of drinks, and keeping unwanted guests at bay.
There weren’t many of those, but a few people had tried to enter the room in order to shout their conspiracy theories about Alexander.
It was almost frightening how close to the truth some of the internet theorists had gotten. Some even guessed that the Northern king had a personal grudge against him.
It wasn’t enough to truly hurt Alexander’s campaign, though. His willingness to take responsibility with the public seemed to charm people. It was enough to make up for his shortcomings.
Still, the projected results were close. Tonight wasn’t a guaranteed victory by any means. Yet, I wasn’t anxious.
I was confident in Alexander. I couldn’t say how I knew, but I didn’t doubt for a moment that he would win.
August had insisted that Alexander and I take the night to enjoy ourselves, to step back and simply watch everything unfold.
We had been working so much for the past weeks, it was difficult to take a step back and just observe.
I stood close to Alexander, our hands loosely intertwined. Every now and then, someone would come up to offer words of encouragement or congratulations, but for the most part, we were left to take in the moment together.
It felt surreal, watching the numbers climb higher and higher in Alexander’s favor.
As the night stretched on, it became undeniable—he was going to win.
The realization settled over me first. I could see it in the way people were looking at Alexander now, with something close to awe. They had believed in him.
They had chosen him.
Alexander remained still, his eyes locked on the screen, expression unreadable.
I leaned in. “You’re going to be king,” I murmured, squeezing his hand.
He exhaled, slow and deep, but didn’t respond right away. Instead, he turned toward me, scanning the room before nodding toward the side exit. “Come with me,” he said softly.
I followed him without question, slipping through the doors and into the quieter hall beyond. The sounds of the celebration dulled behind us, leaving only the soft hum of the city outside the tall windows.
The night stretched vast and dark beyond the glass, the skyline shimmering beneath it. I looked at Alexander, waiting for him to speak. I could see the tension in his shoulders and worried that something was wrong, but I couldn’t imagine what it could be.
Alexander POV
I ran a hand through my hair, letting out a breath that was half-laugh, half-disbelieving sigh. “I don’t know if I can do this,” I admitted finally.
Ella frowned, stepping closer. “What?”
“This,” I gestured vaguely, my voice lower now. “The kingdom. The crown. The responsibility. It feels… impossible.” I let out another short laugh, shaking my head. “I’ve spent my life fighting battles in the shadows. Now they want me to stand in the light and lead them.”
Ella reached out, resting a hand against my chest. “You’re not alone in this,” she reminded me. “You have me. Besides, you’re great in public.”
“I’m great playing a role in public,” I corrected her. “I’m great at acting. This will be different, I’ll have to be… me.”
She shook her head fondly. “You can manage that, I think.”
I looked down at her, my gaze searching. “But I don’t know how to be a king, Ella.”
She smiled softly. “That’s fine. Because I do.”
My brows furrowed slightly, but she continued before I could question it. “I was Luna Queen once before,” she said. “I’ve led, I’ve ruled, and I’ve learned from my mistakes. I can guide you, just like you’ve guided me. We can do this together.”
I had nearly forgotten that she ruled by David’s side in the original timeline. It seemed like such an impossible thing to imagine.
I let out a breath, something easing in my posture. I reached up, cupping her cheek, my thumb brushing lightly against her skin. “Together,” I repeated.
She nodded. “Always.”
I kissed her then, slow and deep, grounding myself in the moment. In her.
Ella’s arms wrapped around me without hesitation, bringing me closer to deepen the kiss. The press of her body against mine sent a thrill through me.
A sudden cheer erupted from the main room, echoing down the hall. The final results must have come in. I could hardly believe that it was possible.
I had set out on this path a long time ago. My intention was always to become king, but now it felt so much heavier than I had imagined.
Taking her hand, I led her back to the celebration.
We walked back into the event room and a roar of cheers and applause filled the space. Ella put her arm around me, raising the other to wave at the crowd as they cheered for us.
I smiled, my practiced charming smile, but my mind wasn’t on this crowd. I appreciated all that they had done to support me and get me to this point, but Ella was the reason I was here.
I believed that Ella had been given her second chance for a reason, and it wasn’t just to stop David from winning the election, wasn't just to bring her to me, or even wasn't just to spare the people the hell that Ella had witnessed in her first life.
She was destined for greatness.
The kingdom had chosen its new king, and along with me, a queen.
They had no idea how well they had chosen.
I believed it more than I believed in anything.
The End
