Chapter 9
After the event last night, Blade and I couldn't talk anymore because he had already driven his parents home and left me here at home. It's okay, though. I didn't expect that something like that would happen again. I thought we were just staying at our condo. This isn't that bad, but if this is how big the house is, sadness will swallow me here. It would be okay if we had a child, but out of sympathy, he bought it for me just so I wouldn't sell my villa.
I know I told him that I bought that villa with my own savings, so, out of pity, he bought me a new one as a gift, but I don’t get it. Why does he have to pay for me? Our relationship is just contractual.
I invited my two friends, Karla and Clarize, and they accepted, since it was a rent-for-free place. They both just needed to be cleaned, of course. But they will arrive around next week because they still need to fix something about rent on their apartment. While thinking about this new mansion, I didn't realize I fell asleep, and I woke up feeling heavy. I couldn’t help but think that I was really married.
I just cleared my head and got ready to go to work. I soaked in the bathtub because I woke up early and I could be late. There are no important documents to submit. I just need to focus on the presentation and word points that I'll present in front of the board.
I finished, I got dressed. I wore a long-sleeved shirt that is puffed and paired it with a pencil skirt and heeled shoes that are only 2 inches high. I was going downstairs when I went through the kitchen to drink water because I thought of eating at lunch time, but something caught my eye.
It was a breakfast with tasty bread, bacon, and fried hotdogs. And there is another note left.
"Eat up, Mrs. Armstrong. :)-Husband."
When I read this, I just laughed, and I put my belongings on the side of the chair and took my time savoring his signature breakfast; he was very thoughtful.
When I finished my food and put the plates on the sink, I hid the letter he had used on the page of the book I was holding and went straight to the front door of the house where my beautiful car was parked.
I don’t have a license yet, but it's valid since I only use this for work and not for long trips to other cities. I'm a little excited when I get to work, since I know I'll be doing well at the presentation that will take place next week when I enter the elevator and my phone suddenly rings.
A message from Blade
"How’s your sleep? Did you eat the meal I made for you?
I just laughed. Is he serious? Are we really going to be a couple? I just laughed when I met some employees and they greeted me and I greeted them as well. I went straight to my office and also sent him a message back.
"Thanks for the food, hub."
And I began to be concerned about the presentation for the upcoming deal that we needed to close.
And our lives started to go back to normal, busy with business. He’s at their company and I’m at theirs. Yesterday, my team was busy because we have some proposals to prepare, including expansions of shares and the introduction of a new plan part, that we will endorse to the board any time now.
I have counted how many times I have repeated the other part, but I can’t seem to pull through. I also didn’t find satisfaction with my own work. I feel like it’s not inviting or appealing.
I was busy preparing a presentation for the board when I heard a sudden knock at the door. I didn't pay much attention to it and focused more on what I was doing because it was important for the company and this was my time to prove myself to my parents.
"Alessia, can you spare me some time?" My dad asked me
I stopped what I was doing and sat down with Dad on the couch in my office.
"Coffee? Tea?" I asked, as I sat in front of him.
"No, I'll be quick and be straight to the point." He said this while looking solemn.
I didn't say a word and just looked at him.
"Starting next week, you'll be working under Blade's care."
"Huh?" "I can't, dad. You know, I have a proposal this coming week. It's not right to leave my team hanging—"
"Just pass it to your assistance; they'll do just fine." He said he didn’t consider my thoughts.
"Just do it for the company and for yourself." Dad just smiled mischievously, and he kissed me on the forehead.
When he came out, I walked to the window of my office to look at this busy city. I was so upset. I've been in this field for almost a year and have not gotten a single proposal. After I couldn't win a proposal, they couldn't let me withdraw myself. I wiped the tears dripping down my cheeks.
I saw Blade calling, but I just let it ring. And then the notification rang that I had just dined. Suddenly, Cloudia, the sub-leader or assistant of our team, knocked. And then I commanded her to enter without facing her and let my back face her.
"Miss, we're having lunch together. Do you want to join us? " She asked me
I don't know if it will do good to me, but I know in my heart that I want some time alone so that when we hold a meeting later today, I will have the strength to face them.
"No thank you, just be back before our meeting starts, okay?" I said, but I didn't look at her, and I just heard the door close suddenly.
I just can't stop my tears from dripping. I just can't really accept that they can't trust me anymore because of a mistake. I know it's not dad's decision and maybe it's for my improvement, so I'm being sent to "Blade, it's not that bad," I said to myself, so that I can somehow comfort myself and ignore the thoughts I think will not help me.
If that's what they want, I'll just follow them, for the sake of their praise.
