Chapter 4 The Power of Fallacy
The air was filled with tension and the atmosphere got sunken deep into the nights as it encompasses around Jaxon and Delphine. It didn't look like a beautiful scene and either of the two seem to cast a smile on their faces. Perhaps a feign at least would help but there was nothing of such.
“I asked you a question, Mylo,” Delphine repeated, this time, moving a step closer.
Jaxon brain worked faster than a clock. One could liken it to a stopwatch, always running unless alerted by an external force. This time, Delphine was the external agent and she seemed like trouble that very night.
He smirked, “It is a paint. I told you I needed to just take a walk to get my heads up right. I happen to stumble on a paint bucket just lying across the streets.”
“I had no idea what it was though…was just drawn to it,” he explained with quite a convincing tone. His breath pace was practiced and he didn't happen to flinch or give off any wrong signal.
There was a pause. Awkward and long. “If she asked to perceive it, then I am done for. I would probably have to jug her neck so she could sleep off or something,” Jaxon thought in his head as she kept giving him this uncomfortable stare.
He had no idea what was running through her mind but he wished. If she bought the lie, good. If otherwise, goddamn it. Eitherways, he anticipated the next words that would escape her unbordered lips.
“You know…you can't just take up your unfortunate body out of the house as you wish. You are here because I made it possible so don't make me mad.”
“...you have no business out there. If you can't sleep, force yourself…I really don't care, but you can't step out,” she said without holding back.
What a condition! Jaxon thought in his head.
Regrettably, he knew he was stuck and just had to give in to her every demands. Anything outside that would be a big hindrance to his plans.
She scoffed, “Maybe I should get more blankets brought to your room cause I wonder why you can't close your eyes and let the night be..”
“But on the other hand, I feel I just might know a perfect reason for all this,” she added.
He skipped a heartbeat. What was she about to say? Does she suspect already ?
Eyebrows raised, fingers slightly rubbing over the other, anxiety building up gradually as Delphine smirked.
“You never tasted luxury before. You are poor, wretched. A mistake and not a man. You don't even know what wealth looks like so that is why you can't sit your butts down when you finally got a glimpse of what wealth resembles..”
Cold.
Her harsh words sent a piercing knife through Jaxon’s quiet impression. One would think he was about to flare up, but then again, he had to compose himself and swallow every ridicule he got.
“You talked about telling me another house rule I should know,” he responded, ignoring every other statement like he wasn't moved by them.
“Oh, really? My words don't make any sense to you or what?” She held his cheeks so tight like she was about to squeeze something out of them.
Jaxon managed to sigh out, “I didn't say that, Delphine. I wouldn't go against you, not in my lifetime..” he answered like the nobody she wanted him to be.
“I heard every single thing you said and I promise it won't repeat itself. Where you keep me is where I will stay..”
“...and where I will find you,” she interrupted rudely.
He nodded in agreement…”So what's the new house rule?”
“Shut it, Mylo….its not a new house rule. You listen whilst I speak. Infact you just broke a rule by stepping out of the house without being given the permission to do so!!”
“I’m sorry I did that,” he spoke softly.
Somewhere, somehow, there was a shift in expression. She never expected he would be so submissive after every of her insults. She pulled him close…
“You are not a master of this house. You are just my husband, you know that, right?” She reiterated as she stared at his lips.
At this point, Jaxon knew what she wanted. However, the blood stain on his hands wasn't making him comfortable either so he had to craft up the perfect excuse.
“Erm….I think I should sleep now plus I need to wash this off my hands,” he said, pulling himself away from being cornered by her.
“Yeah, you should..and take off those wet clothes. You wreak already,” she commented, sniffing the air like it was a foul odor she couldn't stand.
He went to the bathroom and hung the long coat just by the door know and washed off his hands thoroughly. The main door creaked like someone had left the room. The best guess had to be that Delphine left.
He sighed out heavily…”That was close,” he muttered to himself.
All of a sudden, the bathroom door creaked open, and she was standing right there standing at his half naked body.
“I thought you had left…aren't we done for the night already?” He asked, a hint of frustration lying underneath the tone of his voice. Jaxon was worn out already and the least thing he needed at the moment was another round of questioning and being bossed around even though he knew that was what he signed up for!
“I don't think I want to leave just yet,” she responded placing her hands at the metal fittings just by the door. She looked at him lustfully for few seconds and looked away like she didn't like what she saw.
“Are you done washing up or are you going to spend an eternity there?” She asked in a tone that almost felt like she wanted him so badly. Her composure was dropped and she kept smacking lips at intervals.
Jaxon was smart enough not to just fall for it. For all he knows, that could just be another heavy trick of hers to humiliate him once more so he kept his cool and tried as much as he could to make sure he didn't give her attention.
“Do you mind?” He uttered, trying to close the bathroom door.
“I want to stay and watch. Who knows? You might be planning to leave again..through the windows this time around,” she jested and made a serious face after.
“I just need my….” He was about to speak when she walked in close and pulled him for a kiss.
Uhn?
