Chapter 6 Ready or Not
The feeling itself was vague. Nothing more than a business deal. You are either in or out. For Jaxon, it was all in. The mission was holden and revenge was vital. Nothing more, nothing less. For Mylo, it was hell. Delphine wasn't making things easy for him. Despite being a shameful act, her treatment made things worse for him.
“Are you really going to just sit there all day without doing nothing?”
“...What sort of a husband are you? Is this what I am paying you for?”
Delphine's voice crashed through the door from outside as she stood at the entrance with her hands resting powerfully on her curved waistline.
Jaxon just recovered from the awkward dream he had about their little dramatic encounter at the hotel. He was shut off and could hardly speak. He managed to wave his hands at Delphine, a more awkward reaction that got her agitated.
“Are you mad or something?” She lashed out.
“Perhaps you are getting too comfortable around here or so…..have you forgotten you really don't have a say here so you can't just sleep as much as you want to, Mylo,” she uttered in a tone that seemed overly rude and piercing.
“I'm sorry. You know how yesterday was. You didn't give me enough time to sleep,” he answered with a yawn, stretching his hands in the air, giving the exact poor man attitude Delphine wanted to see.
The previous night was more or less like a lecture for Jaxon. After an interrupted bath, all they did was have an authoritative lecture about how everything was run in the house.
“You have to pretend like my husband when we have visitors and most especially when that my father is around…”
“Just learn to play the act well and I will keep my end also, have I made myself clear?” She said countless times throughout the night.
Her voice and unending rules became an obstacle to Jaxon’s sleep and all he could do at that moment was nod his head and respond with a ‘Yes,ma.’
Anything just to feed and satisfy the ego of Dalphine Sterling.
“I don't care if your night was short. I need you up and out there. We need to talk,” she ordered.
Jaxon was reluctant. He knew he needed to get rid of some things in the bathroom.
The whole place was full of what one could call a shady evidence; his mask, the wet jacket amongst the others.
and it needed to be wiped off immediately. Luckily for him, his bathroom is at his peak of his freedom to explore undisturbed.
However, Delphine could be a pest most times.
“I will be out now. Let me take a shower,” Jaxon said.
“I need you to be fast and don't keep me waiting,” she said and walked away like a commander dishing out order to the junior soldiers.
Jaxon gave a loud sigh, there was nothing more relieving than the absence of her voice. At first, he pondered how she suddenly become so dramatic and controlling. It wasn't this way at their first meet.
She was sweet, cold sometimes but she gave a good impression of a young, rich and ambitious woman. Now, she is like the cruel mega version of her first personality; one to be feared and cautious of.
Jaxon went inside the bathroom and in the blink of an eye, he cleared the whole place and surprisingly, his burner phone vibrated.
Apparently, he had kept it hidden in the pocket of his jacket. “Damn….what if this had happened yesterday?” He said as he picked up the call.
“And does this look like the right time for this? I have warned you never to call unless I do!!”
“I’m sorry, Boss but there is an urgent information and I know this would be useful for you in there,” the voice of the phone uttered.
“Regardless, you shouldn't call me on this phone unless I do. Am I clear enough??” He said in a sharp and low tone.
“Now what is it you have to tell me?”
“There’s been some news that Viktor Sterling made some recent investments worth a billion dollars. My wildest guess is…..”
“Hold it right there…” Jaxon interrupted.
“Keep the information. I would get back to you soon,” he replied like he had sensed something suspicious.
He dropped the call and got out of the shower. “Something is not right,” he muttered.
Jaxon was calculative and knew exactly what he was doing. One more minute on the call could jeopardize his mission. He was in the house of the enemy, and to crown it all, the bathroom had its echo...
He went ahead and picked the first shirt he saw the moment he opened his bag and put it on, a perfect display of the impoverished fellow he portrayed himself to be.
Soon as he got out, he heard the voice of Viktor Sterling, like he was on a business call.
Their eyes met, “Here goes the man who maneuvered his way into my daughter's life,” he said with a smirk like that of a disgusted face.
Jaxon was about to respond when Delphine came out of nowhere and placed her arms around his neck, “Oh yes, that is my husband, Mylo Archer,” she said with a fake smile.
“You better act like one. I didn't bring you here to disgrace me,” she whispered into Jaxon’s ears as she turned to hug him in front of her her father.
Jaxon was unbothered. He had other thoughts troubling him, and they all led back to Viktor Sterling. He knew there had to be some sort of connection between Viktor buying a property for an enormous amount of money and his presence here at the moment.
But he couldn't connect the dots just yet.
“This is some big joke, you know?” Viktor blurted out.
He turned to Jaxon, “One minute, you are that lowlife behind the bar serving drinks and the next minute, you are married to my daughter, uhn?”
“You are playing some barman stunt with me?” He said with a straight face.
Jaxon acted like he was scared and let down his face like he had a down expression on his face….”I don't mean any disrespect, Sir…I…”
“Father, can you stop? Mylo is my husband. We are married and that's all that matters. If you have any thing against that, I feel you don't say it at all…come, babe. I want to show you something on my thighs…” Delphine said, as she dragged him by the arm and head over to her room.
That same minute, Viktor received a call and Jaxon looked back…
“Wait, what? Dorian Crane? No, it can't be!!!” Viktor shouted at the top of his voice like he was in utter shock at what he heard over the phone.
A smile rented Jaxon’s face halfway…..
