Chapter 5

Victoria woke up to the sharp smell of disinfectant in the hospital. She stared blankly at the ceiling for a moment and mumbled, "Guess there are still good people out there."

But she never liked this smell. Once her head cleared a bit, she got up, intending to leave.

"The doctor said your wound needs rest. You shouldn't be doing anything strenuous for a month." The voice was calm and dignified, neither hurried nor slow.

Victoria jumped, startled.

There was someone in the room, and she hadn't noticed? She must be out of it if her senses were this dull.

Victoria looked towards the source of the voice. What a handsome face. Wait, he looked familiar.

She scrutinized him closely, and her pupils suddenly contracted.

Wasn't this the guy from last night? How did he end up here? Did he come looking for her? To make her take responsibility?

Victoria's mind raced, her eyes darting around.

Little did she know, Alexander saw through her little expressions, interpreting them as guilt from being caught.

She wasn't afraid when she was acting in front of him, but now that she was about to be exposed, she was scared.

He wanted to see how Victoria would cover up her lie.

Alexander deliberately asked, "Surprised to see me here? Isn't this what you wanted?"

Victoria's eyes widened at his words, finding it both absurd and amusing. What did she want? Wasn't it this man who clung to her for a relationship?

His sudden appearance here was the real mystery.

Victoria pursed her lips, racking her brain on how to rid Alexander of his obsession. She tentatively suggested, "We're both adults. Wouldn't it be better to just forget about each other?"

Unexpectedly, Alexander raised an eyebrow, amused. Was this some new tactic to play hard to get? Did she really think he would fall for such a simple trick?

He had intended to leave as she wished, to see what other tricks she had up her sleeve. But as he got up, he suddenly remembered her abdominal wound. His expression shifted, and he changed the subject, "How did you get that wound?"

Victoria hated people who wouldn't let things go. Seeing him change the topic, she thought he was looking for an excuse to continue pestering her. Her face turned cold as she replied, "What's it to you? Did you fall in love with me at first sight?"

Her sudden change in demeanor piqued Alexander's interest.

This Victoria was different from others.

"Just curious."

"Don't be curious." Victoria lowered her eyes, filled with fatigue.

That look made Alexander dismiss his suspicions.

The woman from last night had eyes so clear they were startling. Even in a dim room, even when he was not fully conscious, he remembered those eyes, a glimpse in the moonlight that was unforgettable.

But the person in front of him had dull, lifeless eyes, filled with world-weariness.

After dismissing his suspicions, Alexander felt a moment of disappointment.

He didn't speak or leave, and Victoria couldn't stand having someone else in her space. She couldn't help but speak up, "Did you bring me to the hospital? Thanks. I'll transfer the medical fees to you. Now, I'd like some peace."

The more she tried to get rid of him, the more suspicious Alexander became.

He had learned from Bianca that Victoria was quite skilled with the Weapon Peaceful B-1, her knowledge of weapons comparable to an expert's.

Whether it was Victoria's knowledge that didn't match her age or her recent actions, everything was suspicious.

Alexander's long lashes swept up and down as he casually asked, "Ms. Gonzalez, you seem to know a lot about weapons?"

Victoria's expression paused, her eyes lowered. "Just something I read online."

But her hand reached for her phone, quickly typing a message: [Quick, send me a link analyzing the Weapon Peaceful B-1.]

Alexander clearly didn't believe her. "The stuff you told Bianca, you can't even find that detailed info online. Where'd you read it?"

Her friend's chat box showed "typing" continuously. Victoria's face was nonchalant, but she was actually annoyed. "There's so much info online. If you can't find it, don't blame others for being smart."

Finally, her friend sent the link.

Victoria opened the link, which looked legitimate, and showed it to Alexander. "Sir, can you leave now? If I have any issues, the police will come for me."

She muttered under her breath, "Nosy people always cause trouble."

But she was a bit nervous. What was up with this Alexander? Not only did he find her, but he might recognize her other identity? Had her identity been exposed?

She had just returned and had so much to do. Did she need to lie low for a while?

Thinking this, Victoria glanced at Alexander again. Unfortunately, the time and place were wrong today, or she would have dealt with him directly.

Victoria was lost in thought.

Alexander, on the other hand, was uncertain.

With his ability to read people, he was sure Victoria wasn't simple, but he couldn't find any concrete evidence.

"Ms. Gonzalez, you..."

"Victoria!" Bianca suddenly burst in, interrupting Alexander. She rushed to Victoria's bed, her round eyes full of worry. "Are you okay? I saw a big wound on your stomach. Did that bad guy do it? I'll kill him!"

Victoria's tension and vigilance instantly dissipated. She couldn't help but laugh and cry, comforting Bianca, "It's nothing. It's an old wound. It doesn't affect me. Don't worry."

"How can it be nothing!" Bianca's eyes were teary. She turned and glared at Alexander. "I told you Victoria is a good person. She didn't approach you on purpose, and you're still questioning her!"

Victoria's mind filled with questions. Approaching him on purpose? Who was this big shot that needed someone to approach him on purpose?

Wait, did that mean he didn't recognize her?

She looked at Alexander again, and sure enough, his eyes were only filled with cautious scrutiny.

Victoria let out a long breath. Good, as long as she kept her distance from him, last night's incident could be forgotten.

It was just a pity about this little friend. It had been a long time since she had someone to chat with about weapons.

"Victoria, give me your communicator." Bianca poked Victoria's arm, pulling her out of her thoughts.

Victoria handed it to her. As Bianca fiddled with it, Victoria saw the full extent of the communicator. It was the most advanced technology, custom-made by top global tech experts.

She had seen it from afar at a conference and joked that it was something she could never obtain in her lifetime.

She never expected to see it up close now.

Who exactly was this Alexander?

"Done!" Bianca put the communicator back on Victoria's wrist and seriously instructed, "Press the green light to contact me, and press the red light twice to contact him. If you're in danger, he'll protect you! Even though he's always suspicious, he's a good person."

She pointed to Alexander, who was sitting in the corner with a sullen face.

Alexander crossed his arms, scrutinizing Victoria, still suspecting she had approached Bianca to get close to him.

Gaining Bianca's trust in such a short time, she must have put in some effort.

Victoria was annoyed by the gaze from the corner. She coaxed Bianca, "I'm going to change and go home. Why don't you go home with your dad first? We'll contact each other later."

Alexander's eyebrow twitched. Dad?

Almost everyone in Emerald City knew about his relationship with Bianca. This Victoria was definitely pretending to be clueless, with ulterior motives!

He stopped Bianca from explaining and said in an emotionless tone, "Since you saved Bianca, I'll take you home."
