The story begins in Italy, Rome (1826) with a young Carissa heading toward the castle, their family's castle. She is confused as to why she would be given away in marriage in exchange for peace that she was sure would never last.

She has a brief discussion with her father, to try to see if she could convince him against the idea but he would not hear it, and she was left with no choice.

While on a charade to get to know each other, Carissa forgets herself and ends up killing Clyde not without him first killing her as well with a promise to be back and get revenge.

In Paris, France (2019), we are in their era of rebirth. Carissa barely remembers who she is but she unconsciously does things that are not peculiar to humans.

She runs into Sarah, who tells her she is a witch and tries inviting her to their coven, where she would get "help" learning to utilize her power. Sarah senses how great and ancient a power she has and tells Mr. Davies. Convincing Carissa, she sets up a meeting for both of them.

Going with Margaret to a party, Carissa meets Clyde at the bar section and he gets her home safe as she was drunk.

Clyde tries his best to not hurt her, leaving her immediately he was sure she would be fine. Fortunately or unfortunately, he begins to crave her.
