Chapter 6 Chapter 6

Reed's POV

Immediately I left the maid's quarters, I went straight to my room to take a bath. I took off my clothes, headed straight for the shower and turned it on. The cold water soothed my skin and calmed my nerves.

I stood under the shower for about 20 minutes, the water rushing down my body as the rejection scene kept replaying in my head. I still couldn't get Mira's beautiful face out of my head. It was driving me crazy. Her beauty, her body, and her boldness were making me feel something I'd never felt for a very long time. A feeling I thought died the moment Diane walked out of my life.

Kane had been whining since I left that room, but replying to him felt like a waste of energy, so once again, I pushed him to the back of my mind.

I placed my hand on the left side of my chest, the part where I had felt that sharp sting after the rejection. It had reduced, but I could still feel it inside.

I finally walked out of the bathroom, drying my body with a towel as I headed to my wardrobe. I picked a simple white button shirt and black trousers. I styled myself up quickly and headed to our family private library, where Ryker would join me immediately when he arrived.

When I got to the door, it was opened for me by two guards. I went in and saw Ryker and Amelia, our younger and only sibling, already catching up.

“You know you could have just sent word to inform me that you're back, right?” I said as I walked in.

“Well … I arrived what? Four hours ago, sent word to reach out to you but heard you were occupied,” Ryker dragged the last word, causing Amelia to giggle.

I ignored him and shot at Amelia, “you? When was the last time I saw you? You've been absent from training and avoiding me. Don't worry, I'll get back to you soon enough. Leave us this instant now!”

She grumbled something unintelligent, moving to where Ryker was as she folded her arms.

“Com’on Reed, let the little girl be. At least she came to pick me up from the gate, whereas you …” he paused when he saw how serious I was.

Ryker was the good twin. The merciful, considerate, caring and loving twin. Whereas I was the evil one. At least to everyone. I was considered the arrogant, wicked and self-centered twin. I was also branded the playboy. I had never really cared about being labeled the evil twin. It just pisses me off whenever Ryker is playing his saint card. Something he had used to win everyone over; my mom, my sister, the elders in the council room and even our pack members. But deep down we both know he's capable of more evil than I do.

“Just give us a few minutes, my love,” he said, turning to Amelia. “I'll meet you at our spot in 30 minutes.”

Amelia dragged herself out slowly, avoiding my gaze.

“How did the treaty turn out?” I pressed, straight to the point. “We can't have these packs tearing each other apart under our rule.”

“Straight to the point as usual,” Ryker commented. “I spent 6 months in that region. You should know I wouldn't have left if all issues had not been resolved. “

The rest of the conversation went in a blur. Ryker talked about how he was mistaken for someone else in one of the packs, got challenged by the Beta and how he killed the Man in a swift motion, leaving the Alpha of the Pack dumbfounded. I didn't bother to ask him which of the pack because there is a reason why he was the one who went for the treaty and not me.

I told him about the issues we've been having with the Watchers, how they've evaded capture twice. The strings I've been pulling to make sure words don't get out. We're a full Lycan Pack, and we can't afford other Alphas or our rivals to know that we've been having problems with the Watchers.

I told him that I wanted to recruit some new fighters for the Enforcers’ team. I needed him to assess the fighters and decide whether they were skilled enough. I also wanted to hear any suggestions or ideas he had. Since the idea of creating this team of highly skilled and versatile warriors originally came from him, I thought it made sense for him to personally evaluate the recruits and choose the ones he considered suitable.

It was then that the report about his friend Lucas crossed my mind.

“Let's take a walk outside. I have something to tell you.”

“Is everything okay?” He asked, staring at me intently.

“Let's just go outside for a walk,” I replied. I couldn't afford to tell him about his friend's incident here. Ryker might be calm most of the time, but his anger is way worse than mine, and I can't have him breaking or destroying ancient family relics and artifacts.

I had to take him outside, somewhere he couldn't afford to let his anger loose. He has a reputation to keep.

He trailed behind me as I walked out of the room. Soon enough, he was by my side, matching my pace.

“I know the reason why you suggested this walk, so just go straight to the point. Tell me, what's going on?” He demanded.

I didn't reply immediately, thinking about how I'd break the news of Lucas' disappearance to him.

I let the silence stretch on a little longer. I cleared my throat to speak, only to see Rachel walking towards me. “Shit,” I whispered.

“Wow. Just wow Reed. So you're fucking this one now?” Ryker teased, with a grin.

“Oh, shut up,” I shot back.

“Alpha! I didn't know you were back,” Rachel greeted Ryker. “We have a lot planned out for you, in terms of celebration. Courtesy, Alpha Reed.”

“Yeah, yeah,” Ryker responded, not wanting to indulge himself in a conversation.

But Rachel being Rachel, dumb and unable to tell she wasn't welcome, wrapped her hands around mine, muttering stuff I wasn't interested in hearing.

I was still thinking of the best way to discard her when we arrived in what used to be my mother's garden, and sleeping peacefully in the garden was my mate, Mira.

She woke up almost immediately due to Rachel’s noise. She cleared her eyes groggily, it landed on me and she stood up instantaneously.

“I'm sorry Alpha. I didn't mean to intrude. I'll take my leave now,“ she said, bowing her head repeatedly and turning to leave the garden.

“Wait! What is your name?” Ryker demanded before I could say anything.

“My name is Mira, sir,” she responded, her head still bowed.

Ryker cleared his throat and said the words I least expected him to say. “I, Alpha Ryker, accept you, Mira, as my mate and Luna.”
