Chapter 43

“Oh, you have got to be kidding me,” I muttered dryly under my breath.

This was the absolute last thing Lorenzo and I needed to deal with at the moment. What he and I desperately needed was to find someone who could treat our wounds, not be interrogated by some random guy.

On the contrary, this hadn’t turned out to be just some ‘random’ guy. The man was dressed in royal colors and was covered in golden metal plating. A royal guard!

Suddenly the area had become swarmed with royal soldiers, all holding some form of defensive weapon in their hands.

“Just stay behind me,” Lorenzo said quietly.

He kept his hand placed firmly on my waist as he spoke out. “Our names are Lorenzo Sinclair, Alpha of Black Moon Pack. Behind me is Eleanor Wright, my Luna,” he explained.

Again my insides buzzed with a glorious hum of being acknowledged as Lorenzo’s mate. I couldn't understand why all of a sudden, I was feeling a deeper pull to him. But I wasn’t upset about it.

The guards started to slowly lower their weapons until a deep, gravelly voice broke out and stirred the crowd of soldiers. The sea of men started to part, allowing room for a large horse and its chosen rider to make its way through.

“Enough! Tell me what is going on here!”

My eyes widened in sheer disbelief as the two of us stared up at the Lycan King himself. His features, much like Lorenzo’s, were dark and devilishly handsome. The older man survived the area, spotting numerous dead rogues before snapping his attention back to us.

“Your majesty,” Lorenzo started. “My mate had been attacked by a vicious pack of rogue wolves.”

The king’s brows lifted in surprise. “And you’re telling me that you, alone, managed to take all of them down?”

Lorenzo let out a long breath of disinterest. “They came with the single intention of harming, potentially even killing, my mate. I did what I had to do to protect her.”

The king dismounted his horse to get a closer look at the weakened state of us. Lorenzo tightened his hold on me as the Lycan King gradually made his way closer to us.

The man spared me a mere glance but when it came to Lorenzo...his expression became wonderstruck.

Third POV

The Lycan King felt his entire world shift off its central axis when he looked at the younger man before him. He could hardly believe his eyes, yet the creature inside of him recognized Lorenzo almost instantly.

‘Our son...’

The older man was beside himself as his chest filled with a deepened sensation of both pride and amazement. All the years that had gone by since the loss of his true fated mate suddenly rushed back to him with full force.

‘My son...My own son fought off a pack of rogue wolves single-handedly,’ he thought with complete gratification. ‘Of course, he did. The boy is of my blood. He’s naturally stronger than most and is no doubt a highly skilled fighter.’

He was determined to know who his son was; however, the king needed to keep this untold secret to himself. He could only imagine what sort of chaos would ultimately break loose if people were to know about Lorenzo’s true lineage.

“Come,” the king announced. “Let us all return with fairgrounds. The two of you are in need of medical aid.”

Lorenzo and Eleanor shared a similar look of bewilderment on their faces but were not about to refuse their king’s demand.

Together, they all made it back to the main grounds of the festival where they were met by the Lycan Luna and the rest of the gathered packs.

“Oh my,” the Luna gasped in horror. She shot up from her seat and rushed down the path to get to Eleanor and Lorenzo. “What on earth has happened?”

Right as Lorenzo was about to explain the unfortunate news, the Lycan King spoke out in his place. “It would appear, my dear wife, that these two had become the main targets of a rogue wolf pack.”

Many of the guests gasped and

“I can assure you, Your Majesty, that the pack is no longer a threat,” Lorenzo said tiredly.

The King chuckled in amusement. “It would seem that Miss Eleanor was the intended target, but Lorenzo refused to let a single one of them get to her.”

The Luna raised a skeptical brow. “It doesn’t appear that Miss Wright is completely unscathed.”

Lorenzo lowered his head, angry and bitter with himself for not having gotten to Eleanor sooner. Eleanor captured his hand with her own and held him close.

“Your majesty, Lorenzo saved my life. As you can well see, I was initially attacked before he was able to take them down. But it’s because of him that I’m still standing here,” she said softly.

No one could overlook the emotion that filled Eleanor’s eyes as she spoke so fondly of her alpha.

The Luna glanced at them both before turning her attention back toward her mate. She graced him with a genuine smile of pride. “My love, don’t you think it’s perhaps time you finally make your grand announcement, regarding who is to be assisting the heir to the royal throne? The position still remains empty.”

The king shared a knowing look with the Lycan Luna. From the glittering sparkle in the corner of their eyes, it was obvious that they possessed a rather strong connection between themselves.

Everyone grew quiet with anticipation. Both the Lycan King and Luna stepped forward as one and silently requested that Lorenzo lift his right hand. They each laid their palms over his and spoke loudly and with true authority.

“Lorenzo Sinclair, Alpha of the Black Moon Pack,” the Luna started. “You not only carry yourself with poise and respectability, you are fiercely loyal to both the Royal family as well as those who live within your own pack.”

“You’ve demonstrated great strength and skill when it came to protecting your Luna. You do not shy away from danger but are willing to risk it all for the sake of preserving what belongs to you,” the king added evenly.

The Luna gave a brilliant smile. “It is with great honor and pride that we elect you as the new right hand to assist the first heir to the throne,” she said. “As well as the position of secondary heir.”
