Chapter 48

A series of tremulous shivers broke out all over my body. White hot sparks exploded behind my eyes like shattering stars. Every part of my body started to buzz to life, and everything around me became hypersensitive.

The clothes on my body. The air particles floating around the room. The sweet, hot touch of Lorenzo’s lips pressed against my own.

A startled gasp slipped out of my mouth before I had a real chance to fully comprehend what was going on. My wolf, on the other hand, roared to life and jumped at the opportunity to keep the connection between Lorenzo and me.

My body moved before I had a real chance to comprehend what I was doing. Within seconds, I climbed out of Lorenzo’s arms and placed myself over him. I’d straddled his hips and reached out to curl my fingers through his thick hair.

Although the room was still quite dark, my inhuman senses made it possible for me to see with perfect clarity. I leaned down and captured his mouth in another soul-bounding kiss that shook me to my very core.

[Lorenzo POV]

Lorenzo had no idea what had gotten into Eleanor. One moment the poor girl was shaking weakly in his arms because of yet another terrible nightmare and now she was sitting in his lap trying to lick her way into his mouth.

Good God, how we wanted to envelop her completely in his arms and devour every last one of her moans. But he couldn’t. His hands were just itching to touch her, tear at her clothes, and give her everything he had.

‘She’s not herself,’ he said.

He’d made a promise to her but also to himself. He would not take advantage of her. Not ever.

Between his own

Lorenzo could tell that a lot of what Eleanor was doing was heavily backed up by her wolf. Apart from spreading kisses all along his cheek and jaw, she bent her head even lower to scent his neck. Her pupils were heavily dilated.

‘She’s not acting like herself.’

There was still a very good chance that she was working through her shock and distress. He was determined to keep his hands to himself out of mere respect.

Suddenly, his eyes rolled to the back of his head as he felt his Luna ground her hips firmly into his. The sensation sent a fire rolling through him, starting from his chest and dropping all the way to his hardening length.

“Oh, shit,” he groaned.

Eleanor hummed in delight. But Lorenzo needed to stay focused.

His voice came raw and graveled. “Eleanor, don’t...”

“Why not?” she panted. She yanked herself back to stare at him, waiting for even a half-decent explanation. Yet all he did was shake his head in refusal.

Her tone was filled with heart-wrenching emotion. “Why?”

Oh, no. She was not going to be rejected again. Absolutely not.

The strange mental haze that had briefly clouded her mind had started to clear away. Now she was left with the humiliating state of her reality. There she was, propped up on her alpha’s lap, practically throwing herself at him. Only to be refused and denied by him.

Eleanor could no longer bear it. She quickly scrambled out of Lorenzo’s weak hold and made for the door. She had to leave.

She heard him call out for her to stop, but her feet refused. Soon the floor beneath her was shaking and the sound of heaving breathing filled her ears. Right as she reached the door, a large hand shot out to slam it closed.

“Eleanor, stop,” he said gruffly.

Her eyes fluttered shut while an awful feeling raked over her body. “Just let me go.”

“No.”

“I can’t do this anymore. I can’t handle the rejection, please just let me go,” she pleaded. “This sort of thing should have never happened in the first place.”

Lorenzo’s eyes began to glow in defiance. He spun her around and swopped down to snatch her off her feet. He hauled her back to the bed and dropped her down in the middle of the mattress.

He glared down at her with a mixture of anger and unbridled lust. “Rejection? Is that what you think I’m doing? For God’s sake, Eleanor, I’m fighting against every last nerve in my body not to tear your fucking clothes off and fuck you into this bed for the rest of the night.”

Eleanor stared back at him with a stunned look on her face. Her eyes went wide and her jaw went slack.

Lorenzo struggled to gather his bearings and took a mindful step back from the bed.

“Do you have any idea how close I came to nearly losing you for good? Had I just been a moment too late when those rogue wolves attacked, I don’t know what would have become of me.”

Eleanor, herself, shuddered at the gruesome thought. Her features drew together in anguish. For the first time in God knows how long, she lowered her mental walls around him.

“And you think you’re the one who’s struggling to hold themselves back right now?” she asked.

Lorenzo’s eyes filled with an electrifying compulsion for her.

She wanted him to see her for all that she was. Everything that she wanted.

Their time in the forest, when those wolves made their attack, was confirmation of her true feelings for him and their relationship.

“Don’t say things like that if you don’t truly mean them,” he said with a hint of warning. “I will not have you view me as a monster again if you are not a hundred percent certain that this is what you want.”

Eleanor softened her gaze and reached out her hand to him. Her cheeks were flushed a deep shade of pink which made her look all the more adorable.

“I’m certain,” she told him.

An animalistic noise tumbled from the back of Lorenzo’s throat. He lowered himself back down to the bed and prowled over her in a completely predatory manner. Leaning down, he licked a path up her chest.

“Are you going to be a good girl and listen to everything I tell you?”

He watched her pupils dilate once more.

“...Yes.”
