Chapter 60
Although the circumstances were dreadful and gruesome, our findings were successfully conclusive. Lorenzo and I were able to determine for a fact that all the bite marks that had been inflicted on poor Agatha were variously different. Which meant that the likelihood of her being part of some secret sex trafficking ring was, unfortunately, very likely.
With this new material in our hands, Lorenzo suggested it would be wise to share our recent findings with the Lycan Luna. As always, my nerves were jumpy and on edge.
“Don’t worry,” Lorenzo said, trying to ease my worries.
I couldn’t explain it, but for some reason, every time we traveled to the palace it always caused my anxiety to spike. It was as if I never truly knew what I was walking into.
Of course, we were immediately greeted by a warm, gentle smile from the Lycan Luna herself. She rested a comforting hand on my shoulder as though to offer a sentiment of comfort for the unexpected tragedy that occurred.
“I couldn’t believe the news when the guards came back to give their report,” she said wearily. “It’s truly terrible. But, what brings the two of you here today?”
Lorenzo and I shared a glance before diving into our gathered collection of information. I’d taken out all of my folders and laptop, taking up nearly all of the open, free space in the drawing room.
To say that Luna was overwhelmed by our findings was a true understatement. Lorenzo and I dove into our various theories and ideas revolving around Agatha from the time of her kidnapping to all the marks we’d found on her body.
By the time we were finished, I was both physically and mentally exhausted. The Lycan Luna, on the other hand, appeared both impressed and slightly disturbed. About halfway through my discussion, she’d fallen completely silent. I wasn’t sure if it was because she became so swept up in information or if something else was pressing on her mind...
“Well, now that you’ve got me all caught up on your evidence findings,” she started. “Where exactly are your theories pointing you toward?”
I felt my chest tighten in anticipation. This was it. Once the accusation against Blue Moon was put out in the open, there was no turning back. But it had to be said.
I mustered up my courage and cleared my throat. “Your Majesty, we believe that there is a very likely chance that the Blue Moon pack could be behind this,” I told her.
[Lorenzo’s POV]
The moment Eleanor spoke of our theory against the Blue Moon pack, I kept my gaze locked on the Lycan Luna, purposely observing her reaction. I watched as her pupils slightly dilated, hearing about the kidnaps being connected to Blue Moon. Her posture stiffened.
“Oh, well, surely there are other possibilities aside from just Blue Moon,” the Luna suggested passively. “I don’t think I could imagine Blue Moon being behind such nefarious crimes.”
Lorenzo found it strange how all of a sudden her tone had noticeably shifted from passive to borderline defensive.
‘It’s almost as though she’s hiding something,’ his wolf said to him.
Lorenzo silently agreed. “But what could someone like her possibly be hiding in a situation like this?”
Right before any of the three of them got another chance to speak, the group was joined by a fourth, unsuspecting, party. Standing in the doorway was the prince, who appeared much more put together compared to the last time he was seen.
Before he got around to actually greeting anyone, the prince’s attention became engrossed in the numerous clusters of papers Eleanor had pinned all around the room. His eyes traveled over the dozens of images she’d captured of Agatha’s body, causing his skin to pale.
For a split second, Lorenzo would have sworn that the prince looked rather unsettled...perhaps, even panicked. He was intrigued by this reaction and wondered if he could uncover the reason behind it.
“Your Majesty, is something wrong?” he asked the prince.
The prince struggled to loosen his collar while failing to clear his throat.
“N-No...It’s just...I...”
His gaze remained fixed on the photos, rendering him utterly speechless.
“As your newly appointed aid, it is my responsibility to ensure that even you are kept well up to date on current matters, regardless of how unsightly and dark they appear,” Lorenzo explained curtly.
The prince’s complexion shifted from ghastly white to an unpleasant shade of green.
“Do you recognize her?”
It was that question that was able to knock the prince from his mental stupor. He blinked several times and straightened his stance. His brows snatched together while his mouth pulled back, giving an affronted sneer as if Lorenzo was openly accusing him of something.
“Just a question, Your Majesty. It was the Lycan Luna’s guards who’d discovered the girl’s body. Perhaps you would be able to provide any clue or evidence that all of us have overlooked.”
Lorenzo didn’t know why he was goading him. He carefully studied the prince’s expression for another moment longer, hoping to catch just another potential reaction.
The two men locked eyes with each other. Lorenzo kept his gaze calm even while the prince failed to keep his stoic demeanor in place. Soon his shoulders were beginning to tense and breathing grew hitched.
Lorenzo parted his lips but was quickly cut off by the Lycan Luna. Her sharp tone sliced through the air like a knife.
“Of course, my son knows nothing of this, Mr. Sinclair,” she stated coldly. “Now, if there is nothing else for the two of you to share with me, I’m afraid I’m going to have to cut this meeting of ours short.”
Eleanor nodded her head and quickly got to work, reorganizing and packing up their reports. Without so much as another coherent word, the prince turned on his heels and left the room in haste.
“Thank you for giving us your time today, Luna,” Eleanor said with a small smile.
The two said their cordial goodbyes and headed back to the car.
‘Oh, yes,’ his wolf snarled. ‘Those two are definitely hiding something.’
