Chapter 87

Over the next few days, Lorenzo and I were practically inseparable. Well, mainly it was Lorenzo who was refusing to leave my side.

Aside from resuming our work on the case, he and I were finally sitting down and making some serious headway on the bonding ceremony.

We decided to have the event take place at the house. Aside from our closest friends and acquaintances, we wanted to keep the guest list small.

I truly enjoyed our time together. It was domestic, simple, and perfectly peaceful.

It was as though we were making up for lost time. I was by no means complaining, if anything it was the best medicine I could possibly have taken.

Of course, I also took all of the supplements the doctor had personally prescribed me, as well. But the true healing came from simply remaining close to him. My wolf was finally resting peacefully and my overall anxiety had tampered down tremendously.

However, I wasn’t fully able to tell if Lorenzo was doing better...or worse. I could tell that he was purposely hovering and clinging close to me. Ever since I first got sick, he’d been overly worried.

Each day, usually around five o’clock, regardless of what we were doing, Lorenzo was insistent that I stop and take a break. He’d become utterly adamant about me relaxing and making sure I got enough rest.

At first, it was rather touching how much he was concerned for my well-being; however, it was quickly becoming a bit annoying and excessive. “Lorenzo, please,” I told him. “I’m fine. I don’t need to rest as much as you or the doctor thinks.”

“But—”

“Really, Lorenzo. I’m fine!”

The thing was, however, I wasn’t entirely sure if I was alright or not. Whether Lorenzo was aware of it or not, my nausea and need to run to the nearest bathroom, continuously repeated itself on a regular basis.

I tried my best to sneak away most of the time when I felt the awful wave come on. I didn’t want to worry Lorenzo any more than I already had. I had no idea why it was happening but apparently, I wasn't being as slick as I thought I was.

At one point during the week, Lorenzo had called for another doctor to come visit the house. I didn’t have the energy to argue.

Unlike the previous one, this doctor looked a bit older than the last woman and wore a darker set of medical robes. Dr. Julia Hoffman. She greeted us both with a warm smile and had me sit down at the dining room table.

She laid out her bag and took out some of her tools.

“Okay, Miss Wright. Mr. Sinclair has informed me that you’ve been experiencing some nausea spells lately.”

I shot a quick glance at Lorenzo who was determined to avoid my glare by any means necessary.

“Yes,” I answered. “But, really, I don’t think it’s that big of a deal. I mean, there’s nothing else going on. Usually, once the nausea passes, I’m fine.”

Dr. Hoffman nodded her head. “Duly noted. But, humor me. I’m going to check your temperature and your overall blood pressure.”

I placed the thermometer under my tongue and waited for the beep to sound off. Once it went off, she took it back and read off the temperature with a guarded expression.

“So, it says that you’re currently at ninety-nine point two degrees. Is that considered normal for you?”

I lightly shook my head. “Not really, my normal temperature tends to stay around ninety-eight point five.”

After that, she wrapped my arm in a stiff cloth-sleeve that gradually grew tighter. By the time that test was finished, we’d concluded that even more blood pressure was slightly elevated too.

The next thing Dr. Hoffman did was place an unexpected object in my hand. I glanced down, my eyes nearly bugged out of my head.

“A p-pregnancy test?”

She gave me a gentle smile and nodded. “Based on what we’ve already determined, you’re not, necessarily, running a fever. But your levels are elevated. The nausea you’re experiencing could very likely be what we consider as ‘morning-sickness’.”

Lorenzo paled several shades lighter, yet he nodded his head in affirmation. I got up from the chair and headed toward the bathroom with the test in hand.

[Third Person POV]

Those ten minutes Eleanor had spent in the bathroom felt like the longest he’d ever experienced in his life. He waited patiently for the first five. However, after that point, he started pacing back and forth until he heard the bathroom door creak open.

He practically jumped out of his skin when he watched Eleanor slowly step back into the dining room. She looked shaken up and borderline terrified.

Lorenzo rushed to her side and reached for her arms. “Eleanor? What is it?”

“I...I’m pregnant,” she announced.

The alpha was struck with a dozen different feelings. He gaped in shock while a disbelieving smile slowly curved his mouth. “You’re pregnant,” he whispered.

“Yes, I thought as much,” Dr. Hoffman nodded her head. “Well, may I be the first to happily congratulate the two of you.”

Lorenzo started to feel Eleanor begin to shake in his arms.

“Eleanor, I’m going to start you off on some prenatal vitamins and schedule your first appointment with one of our gynecologists.”

The two of them nodded their heads in thanks and watched Dr. Hoffman head out.

“Lorenzo?”

From what Eleanor could see, the man looked as though he’d fallen into a serious train of thought. His brow was pinched with worry.

“What’s wrong?” she asked.

Lorenzo shook his head, trying to brush off the question. “It’s nothing.”

Eleanor went stiff. “No. Nope. You're not keeping things from me anymore. Tell me,” she prompted.

“...I’m worried.”

“Yes, that much I’ve gathered,” she commented. “But, about what? Is it...Is it about the baby?”

He nodded his head. Eleanor felt her stomach plummet. Oh...Did Lorenzo not want the baby? She became overwhelmed with a feeling of guilt for not having been more mindful about protection.

“I...I’m sorry,” she whispered.

Lorenzo peered down at her in confusion. His worried expression disappeared and was instantly replaced with anxiety. “Eleanor? What? No! Oh my God!”

He wrapped her up in his arms and pulled her close. He placed a chaste kiss on top of her head.

“I assure you,” he said promisingly. “I’m not upset about the pregnancy. I’m worried because now there will be an even bigger target placed on your back.”

Eleanor let out a long breath. “I understand. This business with Cruz and Blue Moon is far from over.”
