Chapter 89

While Eleanor was taking her call out in the hallway, Lorenzo took the opportunity to speak privately with the Lycan Luna. He fully intended to relay everything to Eleanor later on. But what he wanted was to speak as openly as possible with the Luna.

Lorenzo found it odd that the Prince was nowhere to be seen, considering that the last few times he and Eleanor were there, they had the unfortunate pleasure of being in the guy’s presence.

Yet, strangely enough, the Prince wasn’t there...

“Your Majesty, may I inquire about the whereabouts of the Prince?” he asked formally. “I was partially surprised to not have seen him by now.”

The Lycan Luna shifted in her seat and avoided his gaze entirely. “Ah, my son has decided to spend some time with a few family friends out in the countryside,” she explained.

Lorenzo slowly nodded his head. How wise of the Royal Heir...

Part of him wondered if it was truly his idea to leave the city or if it was someone else’s suggestion. Nonetheless, at least there wasn’t a possible chance of another awkward encounter.

“Your Majesty...May I speak frankly with you?” he asked.

The Luna still wore a look of uncertainty. “...Of course.”

“Are you, at all, aware of the ‘activities’ that the prince often takes part in?” Lorenzo questioned carefully.

There was no telling what direction this conversation was heading in. Hell, there was a very likely chance that the Luna could have turned Lorenzo and Eleanor out at that same moment. Or...The Lycan Luna could be honest and admit to her son’s faults...

A long moment of solemn silence went by. Suddenly, a dreadful expression fell over the Luna’s face. Her eyes glossed over and she dropped her gaze back toward the floor.

“If...If we’re speaking frankly with one another, Lorenzo, I don’t know the exact facts of my son’s preferred activities. However...I’ve always had a horrible feeling whenever he’d leave the house.”

He nodded his head. “I understand. I’m telling you now, whatever becomes of this case—should Eleanor and I find the evidence that we need and your son happens to be somehow involved, we’re not the one who he needs to be wary of,” he explained.

The older woman’s brows pulled together. Lorenzo hadn’t missed the hint of unnerving fear in her voice.

“What do you mean?”

“Cruz Sterling runs the entire operation. Even before he was made the new Alpha of Blue Moon, he was in charge of running the darker side of the pack’s business. We’re talking about illegal drug trading, sex slavery, and child-sex-trafficking,” he said. “Should word get out that Blue Moon could be facing some serious charges, the Royal Crown is the first target they’ll come after. Cruz will do anything to secure his position.”

He watched her whole stature tense up. “Are you saying that he would try to kill my son?” she asked fearfully.

“Worse. Sterling will make it appear as though the Royal Family are not capable of instilling laws and keeping their subjects safe. He’ll find a way to turn the public against you.”

Something dark flickered across the Lycan Luna’s eyes. It was a mixture of determination with an unbridled layer of rage.

“I told you once before, Lorenzo, and I’ll say it again,” she said. “Find the evidence that points all fingers toward Blue Moon.”

He nodded his head before turning his gaze to find Eleanor standing in the doorway of the drawing room.

“Lorenzo, something strange has come up,” she told him.

The Lycan Luna nodded her head and slowly rose from her chair. “Well, in that case, we won’t drag this meeting on any longer than needed,” she said softly.

[Eleanor’s POV]

After we’d collected all of our belongings and headed back toward the car, I told Lorenzo about the strange phone call I got from Victory Bank.

“And you have no idea what could be in this safety deposit box?” he asked.

I shook my head and shrugged my shoulders. “Lorenzo, I didn’t even know the damn thing existed.”

We made our way to the bank and were almost immediately met with Micheal Tims. He was an older man with light gray hair in a dark blue suit with a golden pin on his lapel. He reached out his hand and greeted us both with a warm smile.

“Miss Wright, I presume?”

I nodded my head and gave a light laugh. “Yes, Hello. It’s nice to meet you. This is my mate, Lorenzo Sinclair.”

Micheal fought back a startled look as he went ahead to shake Lorenzo’s hand as well. “It’s quite an honor, Alpha Sinclair.”

“The pleasure is all mine,” he said. “My Luna tells me that you have a safety deposit box in her name here.”

Micheal nodded his head and went on to explain. “Well, sort of...You see, the actual owner of the box belonged to a Mr. Wright—Miss Eleanor Wright’s father.”

My brows furrowed in confusion. “I didn’t know that my dad even had a safety box,” I commented.

“This box was opened by your father several years ago. He informed us to keep the key in safekeeping and only notify you of its existence once your engagement was announced.,” the manager explained.

“May we see it now?”

Micheal nodded and directed us toward the back rooms. He carefully brought out the metal deposit box and placed it down on the table in front of us. He placed the small key in my hand and allowed me to do the honors.

“I’ll give you two some privacy,” Micheal said. “Please, feel free to call out if you should need anything.”

I opened the box to find two items inside. The first was an insurance policy from my dad for over a hundred thousand dollars. And the second was a small black velvet jewelry box.

“Oh my God,” I gasped in disbelief. “I don’t understand. When my dad died, I was told that there wasn’t any money to be found. I was told that he’d fallen into some serious debts and I was meant to find a way to pay them all off.”

I handed the papers to Lorenzo and went to pick up the small box. Inside were two specially crafted rings. My heart ached in my chest.

“Lorenzo, these belonged to my parents,” I whispered.

As I handed over the box for him to get a closer look, there was a sudden, strange noise that rattled from within the box.

Both Lorenzo and I went completely still.

“What the hell is that?”
