Chapter 98
The hospital, as expected, was crowded with numerous people. Doctors and nurses were whisking around to get to their designated destinations with determined haste. Thankfully, Lorezno was able to get admitted as soon as we arrived.
A small medical team rushed to our sides, needing to know what happened. I quickly explained that he’d been in an intense fight with another alpha, hence the claw marks and growing bruises, and focused mainly on the stab wound.
“He’s lost a lot of blood,” I told them. “Please, please help him.”
I watched them take Lorenzo away on a white cot, causing my heart to sink low in my chest. Meanwhile, one of the nurses insisted that I be checked over. Even though I told them I hadn't really any injuries, they were persistent.
“Miss Wright, we have it in our records that you are currently with child,” the nurse noted. I nodded my head. “Will you at least allow us to administer some basic tests to see if the baby is alright?”
I swallowed the lump in my throat. “O-Of course,” I said quietly.
Thank God, Lorenzo and I had decided to keep the news of my pregnancy private for the time being. Had Cruz known about it prior to everything, there was no telling what could have happened.
Jesus, my heart ached in my chest just at the thought of it.
After the nurse finished running through her list of preliminary tests, I was happy to hear that nothing was amiss as far as the baby's development. My mind was quick to return back to Lorenzo’s current state.
My mind couldn’t stop replaying the horrible visions of watching him get stabbed by Cruz’s ugly blade and falling to the ground. The second that Cruz’s lifeless body hit the ground, I rushed to Lorenzo’s side and prompted him to stay away for as long as he could.
“Miss Wright?” a voice called out.
I blinked back at the blurriness in my eyes and glanced up to see one of the doctors.
“Yes?” My heart slammed in my chest. “Oh my God...Is it Lorenzo? Tell me, is he okay?”
He held up his hand to ease my nerves. “Yes, Mr. Sinclair was in deep need of a blood transfusion and a good amount of stitches to help seal up that nasty wound. But once we get some good antibiotic in him, he’ll be good as new.”
A wave of relief crashed over me, nearly causing me to fall back.
“We’ve moved him to our recovery ward if you wish to see him now,” the doctor offered.
“Yes!”
I hastily followed after him and was unfortunately struck with the sight of the press crowding the upper hallways. Goddamnit. Someone must have let the story leak about what had happened at Blue Moon.
A few of Lorenzo's guards spotted me and instantly escorted me through the sea of reporters and eager photographers who were happily clicking away their cameras.
“Miss Wright! What can be said about your bonding ceremony to Alpha Lorenzo?”
“Is it still happening since the two of you missed it?”
I stopped dead in my tracks. Holy shit. Today was supposed to be Lorenzo and I’s bonding ceremony...
“No questions will be answered at this time,” one of the guards stated firmly.
“That is quite enough from all of you,” a familiar feminine voice called out with authority.
Everyone turned their heads to find both the Lycan Luna as well as the Lycan King standing at the far end of the hall. Soon, all the walkways cleared out.
The Luna made her way over to me and grabbed my hands. “We heard what happened and came as soon as possible.”
“Thank you.” I felt my eyes begin to water but held my emotions down. “The doctors say that he’s going to be just fine. He did lose quite a bit of blood but, they’re confident that he’s going to make a full recovery.”
I’d gone on to explain what had happened with Cruz. And in turn, the King and Luna proceeded to fill me in on some of the details as to what was going on on their end.
“Well, now that we are speaking rather openly, I believe it should be noted that the King has decided to secede his title.” My eyes widened in shock. “My son will not be inheriting the title of king either.”
“So, what will happen now?”
“Lorenzo, believe it or not, has inspired me to have a more hands-on approach to my role as Lycan Luna. Why should a King have all the power?”
“Are you considering ruling as a matriarch?” I asked with interest.
“I will never let what went on in Blue Moon ever happen again. Speaking of which, now that Sterling is no more, I plan to dissolve Blue Moon and take those that live within the pack under my wing.”
The Luna said her goodbyes, yet the King chose to remain. Throughout our earlier conversation, I noticed the way he’d consistently glance at Lorenzo. His gaze was filled with genuine concern and worry.
“I can assure you, Your Majesty, he’s going to be alright,” I told him. “The doctors say that he’s going to mainly need a lot of rest.”
“I have no doubt, Miss Wright. But, after all, a father is allowed to be concerned for his child.”
My eyes practically bugged out of my head. And just when I thought I couldn’t get any more shocked for one day...
“What?? Oh my God. Wait, does Lorenzo know?”
“I believe he may suspect the idea.”
“But why not just tell him?” He shook his head. “Call it fear. I never even knew that his mother was pregnant at the time. Had I known... I want to believe that things would have been different. I helped her escape Blue Moon but I was never able to see her again because of my marriage to the Lycan Luna.”
“Lorenzo deserves to know the truth.”
“Maybe when he’s feeling better...Maybe I’ll find the courage and tell him.”
I looked over at my soon-to-be bonded mate with love in my eyes and placed a hand on my pregnant stomach.
