Chapter 13

“I know the Russell family is very wealthy. But I just think it’s a waste of money to pay them so much. To be honest, they haven’t spent much on me over the years. But surely they could get hundreds of times that amount back from me. I’d rather not have anything to do with them. I don’t want to be a burden on my family when I go home.”

“Sis, you’re overthinking things.” Ada certainly understood what Audrey was saying, but all she wanted was for Audrey to go home soon. As for everything else, she really didn’t care at all.

“We’ve arrived. Please get out of the car.” Abigail Chapman opened the car door for Ada. Abigail Chapman’s home was like a crystal palace, stunningly beautiful. How many girls would want to enter there, even just for a glance? But no one had the chance, because the owner of that crystal palace could only be the person she loved—Ada Russell.

At this moment, Ada had no desire to appreciate the castle-like building at all. She simply continued with the previous question: “Sis, go on. Is there anything else?”

At this point, Audrey’s expression became more serious. “There’s one more thing, and it’s the most difficult part. My adoptive parents had another brother. He was very domineering and had feelings for me. That was actually the real reason why the Cheng family adopted me.”

“Becoming a child bride? What era are we living in?” Ada found this idea utterly ridiculous.

Audrey replied helplessly, “That’s more or less what I meant.”

“That’s okay. Talk to your brother properly and tell me his name.”

“He’s named Daisy Lawrence. She’s a really difficult person to deal with—irrational and even excessive in her behavior. Trying to reason with her is like trying to play the lute to an ox.”

“Then find someone to give him a lesson. Teach him how to behave and how to handle things properly.”

“But once you do that, with his mouth, he’ll ruin the Russell family’s reputation.”

“That’s a bit troublesome. Let’s think of another way then.” Ada couldn’t come up with any solutions for the time being and was stuck.

At this moment, Audrey remained calm and composed. “There’s no need to think about it. The only thing to do is wait, wait for the right moment.”

“I can’t wait too long. If there are no opportunities to seize within a month, you’ll have to listen to me, even if you’re my sister.” Ada spoke firmly. She then pressed further, “I mean, what will you do if really nothing comes along?”

“Haha, it’s always been my style to make the impossible possible.” With a proud smile, Ada continued, “Now, out of consideration for your feelings toward the Cheng family, I’ve already postponed things by a month. So, you can see how accommodating I am.”

Audrey looked puzzled. “Create the impossible?”

“Hmm, it’s about creating the impossible.” Abigail Chapman also sighed in admiration. “This competition itself is nothing short of impossible.”

“Why?” Audrey didn’t understand. If it was clearly impossible, what was there left to create?

Abigail Chapman explained with admiration, “The Porsche that Ada chose simply doesn’t have the performance needed for racing. Among the cars in the race, Black Horse is the one with the best overall performance. It seemed certain that Ada would lose this race. Yet, she won.”

Audrey looked at Ada in surprise and asked, “But, Ada, how did you do it?”

Aida said calmly, “It’s simple. All you need to do is turn the dial to its maximum setting. Then, the car’s actual speed won’t be limited by the predicted speed. Of course, this can only be done for forty minutes. The race just now was very risky. If it hadn’t ended within forty minutes, I wouldn’t be here right now.”

Audrey was stunned. Abigail Chapman said sadly, “Are you risking your life just to not be my girlfriend?”

Ida said, somewhat embarrassed, “It has nothing to do with our bet. I just refuse to lose any single match. That’s all.”

Audrey suddenly remembered what the cheetah had said to her just now. She looked at her with deep sympathy. “Aida, you’ve suffered so much over the years.”

Aida found it amusing. “It’s okay. If not for those goals back then, how would I have what I have now? It’s like turning misfortune into fortune, or suffering leading to happiness.”

But when will Audrey finally see the light at the end of the tunnel?

Back in the car city, a group of people were chatting when someone came in from outside. “Boss, Wei Fenn Townsend and Xu Zijun have arrived. Should we invite them in?”

Abigail Chapman said politely, “Please come in.”

“Wait a moment.” Ada stopped her. “Abigail Chapman, it’s getting late. We should go home. They’ve probably come here because of me. Why go to all this trouble? I’ll just go out and go home with them.”

Upon hearing that Ada was leaving, Abigail Chapman felt a little reluctant. “But you said you wanted me to see you off.”

Aida comforted her, “Let’s do it another day. There’s still plenty of time. I’ll come to find you later.”

Since Ada said that, Abigail Chapman couldn’t stay any longer. She said, “Well, okay, I’ll walk you out.” The four of them went outside together.

As soon as they arrived at the entrance to the car city, they saw Finn Townsend and Zijun. When Zijun saw Abigail Chapman and Ada coming out hand in hand, he became extremely jealous. Ada noticed this, but didn’t want to cause any trouble. She quickly pulled her hand away from Abigail Chapman’s. Abigail Chapman was displeased and asked, “Why did you pull your hand away? Is it because of that Xu Zijun? What’s your relationship with him? Is it really worth acting like that for him?”

Ida couldn’t meet Abigail Chapman’s eyes. She kept her head down and stammered, “I… I have nothing to do with him. I let go of your hand because… because we’ve reached the door. You should go now.” Ida’s voice grew softer and softer, as if she was speaking to herself. But Abigail Chapman heard everything.

“Is that so?” Abigail Chapman was skeptical, but she continued to walk toward the door with them.

Finally, they were very close now. The scene froze at that moment. Smoke filled the air, and almost everyone could smell the strong scent of gunpowder.

Abigail Chapman asked teasingly, “Are you Xu Zijun?”

Zijun was also full of confidence. “Not bad. You must be the dark-horse prince, Abigail Chapman, right?”

In an instant, all sounds disappeared, as if whoever spoke first would be considered the loser. After a long while, both voices spoke at the same time, “Do you like Ada?” They asked simultaneously, probably already knowing the answer to each other’s question.

“I want to compete fairly with you. If I succeed in winning her heart, I want you to disappear from her life. If you succeed, then I’ll withdraw willingly. As long as you can bring her happiness, I’ll be happy to watch from afar. But if you ever make her suffer or make her cry, I’ll definitely take revenge on you, no matter what it costs me.” Abigail Chapman said fiercely.

Zijun said with confidence, “You won’t have any chance.”

Abigail Chapman really couldn’t stand his smug expression. She said angrily, “We’ll see then.”

Seeing that the situation was getting worse and worse, Ada quickly said, “I need to go now.” Only then did the two of them relax.
