Chapter 3

I bit my lips. I swallowed all the blood that followed.

I was trying not to throw up—maybe from that drink. Or maybe… from that disgusting face.

The same face that had tormented me through three years of school.

The demon who bullied me until I was barely a person.

I couldn’t accept that Alpha Manny was with her.

The pain was overwhelming. I clutched the hem of a stranger’s shirt, dazed.

She looked worried. The healing glow flickering around her made me realize… I was lucky.

I’d actually run into a Healer.

“Thank you for bringing me to the Pack Doctor,” I said, still woozy, looking at the girl in front of me.

She scrunched up her nose angrily.

“You seriously don’t take care of yourself at all. You drank strong liquor laced with wolfsbane on a stomach this bad?!”

“Aren’t you scared something might happen to your wolf?”

My wolf had gone silent ever since David died.

No matter how many times I called her, she never responded.

Only when I was with Alpha Manny could I feel she still existed.

I didn’t tell the girl.

I used to be a Warrior in the Pack too.

Not the bottom-tier Omega I am now.

And yet I just happened to run into a Healer—

the one and only Healer in the entire Pack.

I was deeply grateful. We exchanged Facebooks and parted ways.

“Kindness is the first trait a Healer must have. And you’re beautiful—I’d love to be friends,”she said with a gentle smile before leaving.

Girls like her seemed to glow from the inside.

I urged her to go home and then unlocked my phone. I was about to check her friend request—

but dozens of messages from Alpha Manny popped up all at once.

Missed calls. Notifications.

I scrolled through them one by one and laughed coldly.

He asked why I didn’t answer the phone.

He’d really done it.

And he really wanted me to bring him the lube.

My stomach flipped. I threw up in the trash can by the hospital bed.

Tears blurred my eyes.

For the first time, I wondered—was it worth it?

Alpha Manny…

He never deserved my love.
