Chapter 310
Nathan’s fingers covered my eyes, their warmth a gentle caress against my skin. My heart pounded in my chest, racing with anticipation. “Are we there yet?” I asked, feeling the smile in my voice.
“Almost,” he replied, his voice tinged with a playful note.
Finally, he removed his hands, and my eyes widened in disbelief. Before me stood a luxurious hotel, its towering architecture a magnificent sight to behold. The opulence was unreal; I felt like I’d walked into a fairy tale.
“What is this, Nathan?”
“It’s our weekend getaway,” he said, grinning like a little boy who had just pulled off the best surprise.
I glanced at him, slightly incredulous. “What about the twins?”
“Angela’s got it covered. She’ll be watching them for two nights.”
My mind started to put the pieces together—the earlier conversations with Angela, her sneaky smirk, and the bags I’d noticed in the trunk of Nathan’s car. “You two planned this all along, didn’t you?” I asked.
“Maybe,” he admitted, the corners of his lips turning up. “Come on. Let’s check in.”
As Nathan handled the check-in, I took a moment to take in our surroundings. The hotel lobby was a marvel of elegance and sophistication, from the intricate patterns on the marble floors to the dazzling chandeliers that hung from the high ceiling. Plush velvet sofas and chairs occupied tasteful lounge areas, where guests chatted quietly, their voices mingling with the soft piano music wafting through the air.
“We’re in room 803,” Nathan said, returning with two electronic key cards in hand.
“Wow, the eighth floor. That’s going to be a great view,” I noted as we made our way to the elevators.
Nathan smiled, his eyes meeting mine for a fleeting moment before he looked away, a little too quickly. “I thought you’d like it.”
When the elevator doors opened, revealing a luxurious corridor that looked more like an art gallery than a hotel floor, my breath caught in my throat. Each room seemed to promise an experience, a chapter of elegance that was waiting to unfold behind every door.
The room was, quite simply, breathtaking. The first thing that caught my eye was the wall of glass that offered an expansive view of the city below. We were in another pack’s territory, a city location as opposed to the small town where everyone knew everyone else. Here, we were just another couple, free from prying eyes and wagging tongues.
“What do you think?” Nathan asked, his voice tinged with a note of hope.
“It’s incredible,” I said, my eyes widening as they fell on a door that led to a balcony. Not just any balcony, but one with its own little infinity pool. “Is that… is that a pool?”
Nathan grinned. “Go check it out.”
I walked out onto the balcony, feeling the cool evening air brush against my face. Below, the city lights twinkled like stars, their glow softened by the ambient mist of the infinity pool.
Before I knew it, we were in our swimsuits, sitting in the hot tub with glasses of wine in hand. The city lights stretched out before us, an ocean of twinkling brilliance that seemed to stretch on forever.
“This is amazing, Nathan,” I murmured, taking a sip of my wine.
“I thought you’d like it,” he said softly. The silence that followed was comfortable, each of us lost in our thoughts as we took in the stunning view.
After a while, I decided to make use of the luxurious bathroom, a space that was as elegantly designed as the rest of the suite. The rain shower caught my eye immediately, a stunning fixture surrounded by marble and glass. The mere sight of it promised a kind of indulgence I hadn’t experienced in ages.
As I stepped under the warm streams of water, feeling them cascade over me like a gentle waterfall, my muscles relaxed and the tension that had been building up over the past weeks seemed to melt away, if only temporarily.
When I finally stepped out of the shower, a plush towel wrapped around me, I felt refreshed and rejuvenated. My bag was sitting on the floor, and I began to rifle through it for my pajamas. However, as my hand touched something that felt like satin and lace, my eyes widened. I gently tugged the garment out and held it up.
“Angela, you sly fox,” I whispered, smirking.
A little red nightgown had been secretly packed for me. Attached to it was a note in Angela’s handwriting: ‘To spark some romance. -x’
I smirked, slipping into the nightgown. It hugged my body just right, showing off my tanned thighs, and even gave me a bit of cleavage.
As I caught a glimpse of myself in the full-length mirror, I paused. Despite the challenges and emotional exhaustion, I saw a glimmer of the woman I used to be, the woman I still was beneath it all—a woman deserving of love, deserving of this little slice of heaven we’d found ourselves in, even for just one night.
As I rejoined Nathan in the main area of the room, I couldn’t help but feel a wave of bashfulness wash over me. Nathan’s eyes widened upon seeing me.
“Liv…”
“Like it?” I murmured.
Nathan nodded excitedly. “I do.”
“What now?” I asked Nathan, smiling as I slowly began to close the distance between us.
He looked up, and his eyes met mine. “Now, we enjoy the night,” he said, a mysterious smile playing on his lips.
In that moment, all I wanted to do was leap into his arms. So, I did.
“Nathan, this is really nice,” I whispered against his ear before pressing my lips to his. The kiss deepened, a kindling fire that threatened to turn into a blaze.
His hands wandered down my back, and I felt the world fade away, leaving only the sensation of his lips on mine and his arms pulling me closer. I felt his strong arms wrap around me, lifting me and carrying me to the bed. He laid me down and let his lips trail across my skin, eliciting a soft moan from my mouth.
My wolf reacted strongly inside of me, and as though acting on instinct, I ground my hips against his. Nathan groaned, something hard growing inside of his boxers. I smirked up at him as our eyes met, and in one swift movement, he pressed his lips against mine again.
Letting my tongue explore the inside of his mouth, I let my hand trail down his chest, over his muscles and down toward the waistband of his boxers…
But then, he pulled away, breaking the atmosphere. I felt him tense up, his hands freezing in place on my lower back.
“Nathan? What’s wrong?” My eyes met his, searching for an answer in his gaze.
He looked away, his eyes settling on a random point on the wall as if he found it difficult to meet my eyes. “It must be the alcohol,” he murmured, looking embarrassed.
I frowned, my gaze lowering to his boxers. Where I had seen the outline of his erection before was now gone.
“Really?” I asked, propping myself up on my elbows. “Just the alcohol?”
Nathan sighed and rolled off of me to sit on the edge fo the bed. I watched in silence for a few moments as he sat on the edge of the bed, his head in his hands. I knew that it wasn’t just the alcohol.
“Be honest,” I growled, sitting up fully.
He paused for a moment before he finally spoke. “Olivia, it’s just that… After everything with the witch, and the emotional toll it’s taken, I’m having a hard time being intimate. It’s not about you—you look breathtaking tonight, but…”
His voice trailed off, leaving the room filled with an uncomfortable silence.
My heart dropped, a weight settling in my chest. Of course, he had reasons, reasons that were valid and understandable. But that didn’t make it hurt any less. And I couldn’t be here anymore.
I pushed myself off the bed, standing up to collect my things. The way he looked at me, it was as though he had shattered a beautiful illusion, a brief escape from the harsh reality we’d been living.
“Olivia, where are you going?” His voice carried a hint of desperation, a subtle plea I had never heard before.
I felt tears sting my eyes. “I’m going home, Nathan.”
