Fatal Love

At the Doc's Office, the Doc said, "Margaret Hughes, your cancer's spread to your liver. No hope left. Eat what you want, do what you want, and leave no regrets."

Margaret asked, "How long do I have?"

Doc replied, "Less than a month."

Margaret left the hospital, pulled out her phone, and called her husband, Raymond Howard. She thought, 'We might not be in love, but he should know I’m running out of time.'

The phone rang a few times and then cut off.

She tried again, but he had already blocked her.

She sent a message on WhatsApp, but she was blocked there too.

The bitterness in her heart deepened. It was sad and pathetic that their marriage ended up like this.

Not giving up, she hit the store, grabbed a new SIM card, and called Raymond again.

This time, he picked up quick, "Who is this?"

"It's me." Margaret held the phone, biting her lip as the cold wind cut her face like a knife.

Raymond's voice turned cold and impatient. "You changed your number just to get my attention? Margaret, are you sick?"

Was this how a husband talks to his seriously ill wife?

Her eyes stung, and her fingers turned white as she gripped the phone. Her nose felt sour, and her eyes instantly welled up. "Raymond, come home tonight. I have something to tell..."

She thought it was necessary to tell him about her condition.

Before Margaret could finish, Raymond impatiently interrupted her. "Sign the divorce papers, and I'll come back!"

His tone was so irritable, as if they were not a married couple but enemies!

Her throat tightened. Margaret wondered if he would speak to her a little more kindly if he knew she was in the late stages of cancer.

Just as she was about to speak, a soft, coquettish woman's voice came through. "Raymond, hurry up. The photographer is urging us again to shoot wedding photos."

Margaret thought, 'Wedding photos? We're not even divorced yet, and Raymond is already impatiently taking wedding photos with my best friend? I'm not dead yet!'

She was indeed dying, but it was their actions that were killing her.

Margaret's tears flowed uncontrollably.

Anger, unwillingness, bitterness, and madness churned in her throat. Margaret forced back her tears and threatened. "I want to see you at home by midnight."

"Are you threatening me?" Raymond's disdainful laugh came through the phone.

"It's not a threat. It's reasonable for me to ask my husband to come home. Of course, you can choose to fall out with me. But I'll take Sarah down with me." Margaret laughed in anger.

"Margaret, don't regret this." After saying these words, he coldly hung up.

Margaret walked down the street, unable to hold back her tears, which streamed down her face.

Passersby turned to look at her, feeling weird.

Thinking about the past, Margaret couldn't stop herself from breaking down and crying.

Raymond had been an orphan growing up in the deep mountains. Margaret's father, Marlon, took pity on him and brought him into the Hughes family, making him her personal bodyguard.

The Hughes family paid for his education, gave him opportunities to work in the Hughes Group, and allowed him to pursue his ambitions.

They even married Marlon's only daughter, Margaret, to him.

After the marriage, Marlon's health declined, and he developed Alzheimer's. The entire Hughes family fell into Raymond's hands.

The first thing Raymond did after gaining control of the Hughes family was to propose a divorce. The terms of the divorce agreement were extremely harsh, leaving her with no property.

Perhaps she still had feelings for Raymond, or maybe she couldn't accept that the man who had once been good to her suddenly didn't like her anymore. She endured a whole year of his coldness and refused to sign the divorce papers.

Before today, she had plenty of time to wait for him to change his attitude.

But now, diagnosed with late-stage liver cancer and only a month to live, she had to find out the real reason for his change of heart.

Back home, she washed her face with cold water. Suddenly, her phone rang.

She picked up her phone and opened it to see a photo.

It was from her best friend, Sarah Martinez.

A selfie in a hotel room, Sarah's eyes curved in a provocative smile, wrapped in a bathrobe, with her chest deliberately exposed.

They had finished taking wedding photos and were ready to have sex.

"Margaret, can you tell me Raymond's condom size? He asked me to buy some, and I don't know what size to get." Sarah's WhatsApp voice message popped up. Margaret clicked on it and heard her question.
