Chapter 2 Chapter 2.
I tried to catch myself but I was too late, I was already falling into the darkness, and this... this is no good for me. At least not now. My essence was weak already, any new injury will drain me more. And for an immortal, when once your essence completely drains out, you fade away.
Despite my fear, I tried to turn myself in the air to at least make sure I landed on my feet to avoid a fatal injury. But as soon as I shifted, I felt a strong, warm hand around my waist, and another scooping my legs, my body pressed flush against something hard but warm too.
Before I could fully register anything, I was back on the cliff again, still in the hands of... the God of War?
My eyes widened as I locked gaze with him. I quickly jumped off his arms, bowing lower than I had ever done before.
"Yo...Your Lordship," I stuttered.
"Why were you trying to end your life?" His cool voice rang between us.
"Huh?" I was confused.
I raised my head slightly to meet his gaze. "Your Lordship—"
"My disciple should seek my consent first before ending their life," he cut me off, gesturing to his emblem on my dress.
I fell speechless instantly, I opened my mouth to speak but no words came out.
But didn't he hear the voice too or was I just imagining things?
"Straighten up or your back might hurt," his voice sounded me out. "You've paid me enough homage."
I slowly straightened myself, completely astounded. This is the fierce, impenetrable God of War? He's actually warm, and nice.
"Thank you, Your Lordship," I finally found my voice. "I was actually not trying to end my life, I was..." I paused halfway, not sure if I should tell him about the voice.
"You were?" He pressed for me to continue.
"I just got distracted, and wondered how deep the water was," I lied.
I must have imagined things again. The voice isn't real.
He nodded in understanding. "But that's not a good way to test how deep the water is," he said.
I nodded in support, lowering my gaze to the ground. "I was foolish."
Silence reigned between us but I felt his gaze on me.
"Want to see?" He spoke again, and I raised my head.
"Do you want to see how deep the water is?" He asked.
I shook my head, "it's not important, Your Lordship."
He stretched his hand to me, and my eyes widened in shock. "Your..." my voice was barely heard.
"Let's find out," he offered.
"No," I shook my head vigorously, stepping backwards. "How dare I?"
He chuckled, stepping closer to me while I stepped backwards. "Not every day you get a chance to meet your God, one who's even willing to grant your request now. Why don't you grab yours now, disciple?"
I stepped backwards, shaking my head. "No, I am already grateful to meet my God, how dare I bother him further?"
He chuckled again, walking closer to me. "What is your name, disciple? You interest me."
"Allyssa, Your Lordship," I answered, bowing slightly.
"Allyssa," he repeated, my name sounding so soft and divine that it made my skin tingle.
He stretched his hand to me again. "Think of it as a reward for serving and worshipping your God all these years."
I raised my head again.
Heavens! I can't believe this is the God of War that I read in books. He even looked more youthful in just plain clothes without his armour. His silver hair being tousled slightly by the breeze, and the way his steel grey eyes were looking at me like he was looking at a child. Of course, I was a child to him, he's centuries old.
Slowly, I found myself reaching for his hand until I touched it completely.
His lips curled up slightly as he held my hand, and led me to the edge of the cliff. "Hold still," he warned.
Before I could ask, we were off the cliff already. I looked down to my feet suspended in air, and though he was right beside me, holding my hand, I felt my pulse spike up.
He felt it, and gave a little squeeze on my hand before pulling me into his embrace.
I looked into his eyes again, and this time I was hooked. I forgot about everything else. He was beautiful, celestial beautiful.
My feet touched the water soon, and down we went in. I gasped instantly, I couldn't swim.
He noticed instantly, and created a bubble around us, and my breathing restored.
In a few minutes, my feet touched the sand. His lips curled up again, and this time I smiled.
Slowly, we ascended up the water, and back up to the cliff. I was soaking wet.
"Reward granted, disciple," he smiled. "Keep praying," he patted my head like he was patting his child, and just like that he vanished into thin air, leaving me cold and alone to wonder if I wasn't hallucinating again.
I hugged myself, and dragged myself slowly back into the palace, shivering from the cold thanks to my weak essence.
Reaching my bedroom, I froze, not expecting what I met there.
