Chapter 87

I woke to Charles snuggled around my back. He nuzzled the bare skin on the back of my neck, his hand brushing along my thigh. So that’s how it was going to be this morning?

A smile spread across my face, and I nestled back into his chest, pressing my hips to his. He pushed along my curves, already stiff. His hand dipped between my legs, and they parted willingly. Gentle fingers shifted aside the silky fabric of my panties, stroking the edges of my folds, coaxing my body into arousal.

I twisted so I could kiss along his bicep and shoulder. He nudged me back to face away from him.

“Close your eyes and let me please you for a bit,” he whispered.

Well, one should obey the alpha, right? I did as he asked, pleasantly surprised to find my other senses heightened with my sight gone.

Each touch of his lips brushed across the skin of my neck like flutters from a butterfly. His fingers slowly worked their way deeper, sliding along on my own wetness. This started an ache within me. My body wanted him much more than the teasing strokes around the outer rim of my lady parts.

He traced slow circles until my back arched, pushing my hips against his cock, my body begging him to enter me. He did, but just with the tips of his fingers. His other hand moved to my breast, tweaking my hardened nipple and drawing a moan from me.

He groaned in return, thrusting against my back to release some of the tension, but he didn’t enter. Instead, the movement of his hands grew faster, and his fingers slid deeper.

I gasped, clutching at the sheets. Even without him inside, a bubble of pleasure was growing, pressing in on me. On the other side of that lay immense pleasure. I just needed a little more…

Charles was now taking regular thrusts against me, rubbing himself in time to my mounting excitement. He panted into my neck but never stopped both his hands from their excellent work. Desperate need pushed my body against him, writhing against his touch, longing to pop that bubble and release the ecstasy.

He rubbed frantically between my legs, gripping my nipple with his other hand, his cock bouncing and throbbing against my back. I prayed he’d just impale me. One thrust inside was all it would take to send us both over the edge.

Someone knocked on the door. Charles presses the warm tip between my legs, clearly intending to ignore the knocker. I wanted to care that I was an inch from having sex with someone standing just outside the door, but I couldn’t bring myself to care. When Charles pushed inside, all I’d do was bite back any noise.

Agent Malik’s voice called through. “Sir, the governor is on the phone for you.”

Charles groaned and rolled over, pulling away from me. “Are you fucking serious?” he snarled at the door.

“It’s seriously the governor. “

“He has the worst timing on the face of the planet,” Charles snapped.

I couldn’t respond. I had no idea what to say, but one didn’t keep the governor waiting. So, no matter how much either of us wanted to keep going with the sex, we had other, more important, things to take care of.

Charles got up, threw on a robe, and opened the door, glaring at Agent Malik on his way out of the bedroom. “I turned my phone off for a reason,” he said.

Agent Malik nodded. “That’s why the governor called my phone. Evidently, this is important.”

The security agent never once apologized for interrupting our interlude. Did he not know how involved we’d be, or did he just not care?

Charles sighed and disappeared into the living room, leaving me sprawled on the bed, hot, desperate, and shaking. We hadn’t even had our security detail for twenty-four hours and already I was sick of them. If only there were some way we could get rid of them. At least for long enough that Charles and I could be together properly.

Not even three minutes later, Charles slammed back into the bedroom, closing the door on the noses of both agents.

“Governor Kruck just wanted to know how we were settling in,” Charles growled.

He sat beside me, running his palm up my thigh.

“Sir?” Agent Malik called through the door. “Agent Bell will have breakfast ready in five minutes. Then, we’ll be switching security for the day. We’ll be waiting for any instructions you might have.”

Charles yanked his hair, left the bed, and slammed into the bathroom, starting the shower. I fully agreed. This was ridiculous. The governor didn’t care how we were doing. The only reason he’d be happy is if, for some reason, we’d managed to electrocute ourselves in the bathtub or something. And it seemed like the agents were deliberately cock-blocking us. Did they not want to listen to someone’s sexual exploits? Were they jealous? Or were they just vindictive?

Half an hour later, we stared at one another in stony silence over what should have been an excellent breakfast of French toast. After his first helping, Charles put his face in both hands on the table.

“This is not going to work,” he said. He peeked over at me. “Shall we go out and see the city?”

The moment the suggestion passed and slipped. Both agents were on their feet, moving toward the door, waiting for us to go too.

“I guess,” I said.

At least, if we were out exploring the new city, we would have that as a distraction instead of just sitting around in mutual discomfort, getting more and more pissed that the agents were there, lying around like big annoying lumps in our apartment.

“Maybe I can find the inspiration for a new story,” I suggested.

“Hopefully,” Charles agreed. “And maybe I can find something to do with myself. I got up at four this morning and answered all of the emails regarding work before I climbed back in bed with you. It took me far less time than I would have liked since having a distraction would obviously be better than the alternative here.” He looked directly at both of our guards.

This pattern played out over and over again, every single day for nearly two weeks. Charles and I prowled every corner of Lupinton, and still, I found not even a shadow of the sort of problems that I’d uncovered in Lustrum.

Charles and I checked out just about every government agency that was available, along with most of the industries that the government had their fingers on the pulse of, and got nothing. Sometimes, I wondered if dragging around two government agents had anything to do with that result. Maybe people weren’t comfortable speaking in front of them.

Regardless of the reason, Lupinton was a city of nothing but sunshine and rainbows. By the time we got through all those government departments, I felt sick. If I got one more story about how wonderful the city was, I just might vomit a little in my mouth. We’d ended up in the creepiest city ever, like that movie about the town with the sinister robot wives. There had to be something evil going on in this city. Nowhere was this nice.

But without anything or anyone to prove that my hunch was actually the truth, all I could do was operate on the assumption that we’d somehow landed in the absolute perfect city, the only one on the face of the planet where evidently not a single thing went wrong. Even the crime here was tamed by comparison. I monitored the police scanners and followed up on every arrest report. But it was all minor things, a theft here, a violation there.

Yup. Pure evil.
