Chapter 2

Footsteps approached, and I hurriedly left with the lunchbox.

Later that night, Leo returned home exhausted. When he saw me, his face softened.

“Why didn’t you rest inside?”

“I told you not to wait for me at night. I might be late, and your body can’t handle it.”

I calmly replied, “I thought you hadn’t eaten, so I made something for you.”

“I can eat whenever. The main thing is you. Don’t overwork yourself. I’ll be heartbroken, wife.”

Then he pulled me into his embrace and kissed my lips.

His arms felt as warm and safe as they always had.

But all I felt was coldness and fear.

Thinking back to the information I overheard at the lab, my heart clenched, and tears streamed down my face.

Leo noticed my distress and hurriedly asked, “Why are you crying, wife? Is your leg hurting again?”

I held him, but there was no love in my eyes anymore.

“It’s nothing. I just feel like you’re so good to me, I don’t know how to repay you.”

He laughed and patted my head.

“Wife, because I love you, I don’t need anything in return.”

He then pulled out a small packet of powder from his pocket, eyes gleaming with anticipation.

“Wendy, we’ve developed a new drug in our lab. Maybe it can help cure your voice!”

Leo handed the medicine to my lips, his eager eyes urging me.

My body stiffened. Never once had I refused him, but this time, I shook my head.

“, it doesn’t matter if I ever recover my voice. This medicine... I don’t want to take it. Is that okay?”

“You’ve always wanted to get better, right? Come on, take it, and you can go back to the stage.”

After five years of living together, he knew exactly how to persuade me, using all the tricks to get me to comply.

But Leo , why are you so heartless? Why do you want to kill our child, just to make room for Cici ’s child?

But this is our flesh and blood! This is my hope!

Tears blurred my vision. My mouth was bitter, filled with the taste of the medicine. I drank it all in front of his hopeful gaze.
