Chapter 6 The Constant Current
Everything after that moved so fast that Isla thought she was in a daze. Everything shocked her, stunned her. And somehow it was the day her father was getting married to his beautiful love, Charlotte.
Isla blinked, and her eyes focused on the maids assigned to her. The ladies were revolving around her, getting her ready for the wedding. They lowered the pretty dress to Isla’s feet and asked her to step in. The dress slowly came up to her breasts, and Grace zipped up the dress from behind. Ivy adjusted the dress, and Manu started cutting up the double-sided tape to secure the dress even more.
After the final touch, the ladies stood before Isla and stared at her as if she were their precious creation. “Wow! You are beautiful!” said Amara, laughed and started walking towards the door. “Come downstairs after five minutes. A golf cart will take you to the wedding spot.”
Isla just stood there stunned, staring at her reflection in the mirror. “This… this is me? I… I look like this?” She kept blinking aimlessly and staring at herself. Smoky eyes, nude lipstick, green eyeshadow, subtle blush, two curls hanging on both sides of her face, wavy curls down to her shoulders, shiny neck and shoulders; highlighter had made her collarbone pop out even more. She gulped when she realised that she was just staring at herself and her heart was beating fast. “Well, I… I look hot! I never knew this was possible.”
“Okay, okay, relax!” Isla calmed her heart down. “Fine! This dress is gorgeous; Fine! Those ladies did a good job with me; Fine! That I am looking hot, but I cannot show all this to anyone. I have to show that I hate everything. I said yes to the dress, yes to the wedding, not to being happy and smiling. I will be grumpy, as grumpy as I can be. Nothing in the world is going to make me enjoy this sham wedding.”
Isla made up her mind, took a deep breath and moved a step ahead. Her heels clicked, and she looked down. Even her heels were shiny. The shiny green closed-toe stilettos had tiny, studded butterflies all over. Even her feet looked expensive in those heels.
She took a deep breath, tried making different annoyed faces, tested the best one, chose it and walked out of her room. She grabbed her full skirt and started shouting at the top of her lungs. “God! I hate this dress. I can’t even walk properly. Everything is so bulky, so frilly. Ahh! My hair is pinching me from every angle, and I look like an idiot in this makeup. I hate this! I hate all of this!” Isla kept shrieking and walking while staring at her dress and her heels. Her hands held the sides of the dress and lifted the dress slightly so that she could walk. Groaning and moaning and growling in anger, she kept walking when suddenly her head hit a muscular wall, and the force made her stumble.
“Ahh!!” She threw her hands in every direction, trying to balance herself, but she knew she was going to fall. She closed her eyes, her heart ready to jump out of her chest, thinking how badly she was going to get hurt. Suddenly, someone grabbed her wrist and pulled her to safety. The moment she felt a strong arm around her waist, she opened her eyes and her eyes widened with shock.
For a minute, she lost her words. A handsome young man dressed in a dapper black tuxedo was looking down at her face. His eyes, too, were wide, and she could see his Adam’s apple moving up and down.
“You!!” she shouted. “What are you doing here?” she stammered.
“Are you okay?” he asked. His baritone voice sent shivers down her spine.
“What?” asked Isla, confused. She asked him a question, but his answer was something else.
“I asked whether you're okay?” he asked again.
“And I asked you what you are doing here?” asked Isla.
He pulled her even closer, making her gasp loudly, and she gulped. One of her hands was in his grip, and her other hand was on his chest. She could feel the tight muscles under his jacket. His hair was slicked back neatly, not a single strand out of place. She could see the natural makeup look on his face, which made his skin even more radiant.
But she was angry at him. Because of him, her father was able to grab her again at the airport. This young man standing before her with his hand wrapped around her waist delayed her escape. She hated him with every fibre of her being.
He scoffed and smiled at Isla, “Look closely, princess! This is my house. You are in my house. Are you following me? You were at the airport and landed in my arms. Now you are here, again in my arms. Are you a stalker? Do you like me that much? Let me tell you, I have never been interested in any girl; I will never be interested in any girl. You can find someone else to flirt with!”
“Excuse me!” shouted Isla and pushed him abruptly. But he didn’t move even an inch. Her brain recalled something, and she shouted, “You are Gideon? You were the ghost who scared me last night? You idiot! You asshole!” she snapped and kept pushing him, but he didn’t budge.
Gideon raised one of his eyebrows and stared at Isla with an angry face. “What did you just call me?”
“Ass…ho…le!!” enunciated Isla and moved directly into his face. She was not ready to back down.
“Where was this courage last night? You looked like a scared mouse. What did Jasper call you? Yeah, little mouse,” mocked Gideon.
“You remember that? Do you remember what happened after that? How I showed you the shark teeth!” taunted Isla and flashed her pearly whites at him.
Gideon stared at her and slowly moved his hands from her waist in an upward motion. He made sure that every move, every caress, was felt by Isla. She gasped, and her breath shuddered. Now his hand was on her bareback. His hot skin was burning her cold skin. Her chest was moving up and down, and her eyes kept getting wider and wider. But he didn’t stop.
His hand was now at her neck.
“What… what are you doing?” Isla started breathing heavily. His touch was sending a constant current through her body.
Gideon kept quiet. His blue eyes stared directly into her eyes. He moved his fingers inside her hair and pulled a good chunk of it, making her tilt her head. She let out a soft yelp. He bared his teeth and lowered his head, moving near the soft area between her neck and shoulder. “Should I show you what a shark bite looks like?”
“Whhhaaattt??” Isla stopped breathing. Her mouth was open, and her eyes were wide. She knew if she didn’t close her mouth, drool would come out of it.
“You bit me. I should return the favour,” replied Gideon with a straight face.
“I… I…” Isla had no words.
“What? Can’t talk now?” mocked Gideon with a straight face. He kept mocking her, taunting her, but there was never a smile on his face. He just stood in front of her stoically.
