Chapter 7
The woman across from him looked annoyed. "A wedding gift of $100,000? Are you kidding me? It has to be $288,000, no less."
The man replied, "Alright, $288,000 it is. When do you want to pay? Now, or when we get the marriage certificate?"
It's rare to find such a generous guy these days. Alice couldn't help but daydream, hoping she might meet a decent and generous man today.
"Can you pay now?" The woman sounded surprised.
"Sure thing. The longer you drag these things out, the messier they get. Best to settle it quickly."
With that, the man took out his phone, opened the payment app, and pushed it toward the woman. "Alright, you can pay the wedding gift now."
The woman widened her eyes in anger and asked, "What do you mean?"
"Didn't you say you wanted to give me a wedding gift of $288,000? Go ahead and pay it now." The man looked like it was the most natural thing in the world.
The woman shot up from her seat. "Are you nuts? Why would I give you a wedding gift of $288,000?"
"Exactly, why would I give you a wedding gift of $288,000?" The man shrugged, throwing the question back at her.
The woman was so infuriated by his attitude that she picked up her coffee, ready to throw it at him.
"Think carefully. If you throw that coffee, it will be considered intentional harm and property damage. I could have you detained."
Upon hearing this, the woman stopped herself just in time, angrily putting the coffee back on the table.
"You're insane!" she spat before storming off.
Listening to this dramatic exchange, Alice couldn't help but laugh. She had thought the girl had met a generous date, but it turned out he was a weirdo.
Indeed, the only thing that can outdo a weirdo is another weirdo.
Alice glanced at her phone, frowning slightly. She was about to message Evelyn to ask if her date was coming when a large shadow loomed over her.
Alice looked up to see a man with a big belly and a gold chain around his neck that was thicker than a dog's leash. He sat down across from her.
After sitting down, he deliberately extended his hand to show off his flashy gold watch. "Ms. Baker, right?"
The man smiled, revealing a mouthful of yellow teeth. Alice suppressed her disgust and managed a polite smile.
"Let me tell you about my conditions. I have a house and a car, my family runs a small factory, and my annual income is about $300,000. If you marry me, you won't need to work. Just stay home and take care of me and the kids. There should be at least four dishes and a soup every day. As for kids, let's have three, but they must be boys."
Listening to his introduction, Alice couldn't help but roll her eyes. This wasn't a date; he was looking for a nanny who could also bear children.
The man kept talking, and Alice started to feel annoyed. Setting aside his conditions, she couldn't stand his appearance.
Thinking about spending her life with such a repulsive man, she'd rather marry into the Wright family.
Alice took a sip of her coffee and politely interrupted, "Are you done?"
"Yeah, you can tell me your conditions now. You look pretty good. If you can meet my requirements, I might consider dating you."
The man's sense of superiority and misplaced confidence made it seem like marrying Alice was a favor to her.
"We're not a good match." Alice rejected him outright. For someone she didn't find attractive, she didn't want to waste any more words.
"Why not? Which of my conditions can't you meet? Considering you look decent, I might lower my standards a bit."
"Because you're ugly, and you make me sick." Alice glanced at him and gave her reason without mercy.
The man immediately got angry. "You should be grateful I even considered you, and you call me ugly!"
"Don't you have a mirror at home? Didn't you check yourself before leaving?"
"You!" The man was furious, slamming the table and glaring at Alice.
Alice checked the time and calmly reminded him, "You can leave now. I have another date coming soon."
Seeing people around them starting to look, the man snorted angrily and left.
Alice ignored the stares and continued to enjoy her coffee.
Soon, a well-dressed man sat across from her, politely greeting her. "Hello, are you Alice?"
Alice looked up at the clean-cut man. Compared to the previous guy, he was much more pleasing to the eye.
At first glance, Alice felt a bit of a good impression.
The man kept a polite smile and introduced himself. "My name is Jack. I work at a large company, have a stable income, no bad habits, and a simple lifestyle."
Hearing this, Alice was satisfied. She wanted to find an honest man to settle down with.
"That's good. You should know my details already, so I won't go into them. You can tell me your requirements for marriage."
"Actually, I don't have many requirements. My parents are old and not in good health, so after marriage, they need to live with us. My only requirement is to be filial to them. I also have a younger brother and sister in high school, and I might need you to help with their tuition."
Hearing this, Alice frowned. The good impression she had just formed vanished instantly.
It's not that Jack was bad, but marrying into such a family would mean dealing with endless trivial matters, which would drive anyone crazy.
Jack said, "I have a better plan for money matters. I hope after marriage, you can give me your salary, and I'll manage our living expenses."
Hearing this, Alice's smile disappeared completely. "I also have siblings. My brother needs money for his wedding, car, and house. Can you help with that?"
Jack's face darkened immediately. "Of course not. Every penny I earn is for my family. Why would I spend it on yours?"
Alice questioned, "Then why should I be filial to your parents, pay for your siblings' education, and give you my salary?"
Jack said, "Ms. Baker, if you put it that way, we can't continue this conversation."
Alice said, "I agree. We're not a good match. Maybe you should try dating someone else."
After sending off her date, Alice sighed helplessly.
