Chapter 3 Escaped Luna
ISOLDE
Hair lifts on my nape and arms as the cold metal remains pressed on my forehead like a time ticking bomb. His eyes grow colder, and it’s like I’m staring at an arctic wolf that wants to rip me apart bit by bit.
I suck in a breath when he exerts more pressure.
“I’ll count one to three,” he says calmly. “One, two..” he cocks the gun, “t—”
“Two!” I shout, covering my ears when I think he’s actually going to blow my brains. “I’ll pick the second…second choice.” I rush out.
“And what’s the second choice?” He doesn’t pull his pistol away, he keeps it there, only tilting his head with a small glint of amusement in his eyes. “I want to hear you say it.”
“There’s a fucking blood trail over here, the Luna is close!”
My heart nearly explodes out of my chest. I can hear them, they’re fucking coming.
I try to stand, but the asshole shakes his head, tapping the pistol on my forehead.
“You heard me,” his voice is calm, like he isn’t aware of the dozen warriors desperately hunting me.
“I’ll stay under you and live under your rules!” I say quickly, glancing back when loud noises fill my ears. “Now can you please get me out of here?”
“There she is!”
A blast echoes and something heavy falls on me. His large frame forms a protective covering, and when the bullets finally stop raining, he grabs my wrist. “My car’s close by, but we have to run for a while.”
I stare down at my wounded feet and nod.
Adrenaline pumps through my veins as we sprint through the woods, ducking when cracks echo to avoid getting shot. He pushes me behind a tree when someone catches up to us, and he fires ruthlessly, aiming for the head like he did last time.
He reaches out for me again, ordering coldly. “Hop on my back.”
“What?! What if I get shot?”
“You’re slowing me down,” he growls in my face. “You either hop on my back, or you’re free to rot here.”
He lowers his back a bit, urging me to climb, and I do as he said. Shakily, I wrap my arm around his neck, feeling his flexing muscles under me. His manly scent fills me as he sprints through the woods, running at a speed so fast I have to catch my breath.
We reach his car in minutes, and he throws me in the back seat. He gets in, then slams his feet on the engine.
Due to the insane force, the car jerks forward, throwing me against the seat, and I hiss in pain, clutching my arm as blood seeps through my robe.
Gunshots explode behind us and the windows shatter.
“Fuck,” I curse as glass rains over me. I duck, covering my head as the car swerves violently again, nearly slamming me against the damn door.
“Stay put,” he orders, eyes locked on the road. “Or I'm throwing you out.”
I curse under my breath and sit properly.
When another bullet hits the car, I scream, lowering my back as the window shatters again. A shard of glass pierces my arm, and I stifle out a sob, wondering if I didn’t make a mistake by asking him to save me.
“Scream again and I’ll gag you.”
“But I’m bleeding,” I grit out. “If I don’t get help on time, I’ll die.”
“Well, don’t die yet.”
How can a man be so cold? I keep my mouth shut, watching as he curses and jerks the wheel, veering off the road into a narrow path. He drives deeper, and the gunshots finally stop. The car hits the road back, and a tall, towering gate appears.
“Still alive?” He asks me as the gates open, and I just nod, too weak to even say a word. He pulls up somewhere in the compound, then he kicks the doors open, rushing toward me.
“Get the healer, now.” He barks orders like the Alpha he is, and a small smile crosses my lips. Bernard has never done that, not even when I’m on the verge of dying.
He carries me princess style, his brows furrowed deeply. “Don’t fucking die on me, Isolde.”
I cough out a mouth full of blood, laughing weakly. “Says the man who was so eager to blow my brains.”
“That was before you became my property. Now that you’re mine, you’re not fucking allowed to die.”
“Alpha Ryder,” someone lifts me from his arms, and I groan. “I’ll take it from here, but from the look of it, she has lost a lot of blood,” his voice drips with urgency, and it makes me wonder if I’m really going to die.
“Save her at any cost,” Ryder, my savior, growls in response. I can barely hear the next words before everything fades. “She belongs to me now.”
