Chapter 4 Car Accident on a Rainy Day
Luca looked up and saw Olivia covering her mouth, her face pale. The anger in his chest instantly vanished.
"Are you okay? Are you sick?" Luca quickly took off his jacket and reached out to touch Olivia's forehead, his voice tinged with worry.
Olivia dodged his hand, her voice weak. "I'm not sick."
Her resistance annoyed Luca. "You can barely speak, and you're still saying you're not sick?"
Even now, she was lying to him!
"It's none of your business," Olivia said, fighting back nausea. "Just stay away from me."
Her distant tone made it seem like she was talking to a hated enemy.
Luca stared at Olivia, her rejection and disgust fueling his irritation.
For some reason, he couldn't stand seeing Olivia act so cold! Back then, she always craved his care.
Luca rolled up his sleeves and bent down to pick her up. "You've been throwing up. You need to go to the hospital for a checkup!"
"I said I don't need it. Don't touch me!" Olivia pushed his hand away, reacting strongly.
She couldn't go to the hospital. If she did, her pregnancy would be exposed.
However, this action completely angered Luca.
He clenched his fists, staring at Olivia's pale face, forcing himself to hold back the urge to threaten her. "Olivia, can you stop being so stubborn?"
"How am I being stubborn? I know my own body. I don't need a hospital, and I don't need you to care."
Olivia turned over and got out of bed, wanting to go to the bathroom. But after throwing up, she felt weak all over. As soon as her feet touched the ground, she lost control and stumbled forward.
Luca immediately opened his arms, catching her and pulling her firmly into his embrace. "You're this weak and still acting tough? Olivia, I hope you can behave a little." There was a hint of indulgence and tenderness in his words, which caught both of them off guard.
Olivia was stunned and blurted out, "Luca, did you hit your head? Or are you mistaking me for Windy?"
Luca's eyes darkened, and just as he was about to speak, there was a sudden knock on the door.
The maid spoke cautiously from outside, "Sir, Miss Stan is here. She says it's urgent, and it's raining heavily outside—"
Speak of the devil.
Before the maid could finish, Luca interrupted anxiously, "Alright, I'll be right out."
He settled Olivia down, glanced at her unwell expression one last time before leaving the bedroom.
Olivia felt dizzy and lightheaded. After sitting down, her vision kept going dark.
Even though she felt so terrible physically, she couldn't ignore the pain in her heart.
Her discomfort meant nothing compared to Windy.
Even when she was sick, she could be easily abandoned.
Downstairs.
Windy was soaked to the bone, her eyes red. Even with the heater on in the house, she was still shivering from the cold.
As soon as she saw Luca coming down, she apologized in a trembling voice, "Luca, I'm sorry for bothering you so late."
"What happened? Why did you come looking for me in this rain and get yourself drenched?" Luca grabbed a blanket from the sofa and draped it over Windy.
Windy spoke weakly, "I had a nightmare and didn't dare stay home alone. I kept thinking about you, and before I knew it, I was here." She glanced behind Luca. "Is Olivia asleep already? Should I not have come to see you…?"
At that moment, Olivia had also made her way to the top of the stairs on the second floor.
She locked eyes with Windy and instantly saw the provocation in her gaze.
Unfortunately, Luca didn't notice.
Luca said, "She's not asleep yet, but—"
Windy quickly cut in, "Can I rest here for a bit? I just want you to talk with me, nothing else." She looked up at the stairs again. "Olivia, you won't be mad, right?"
Luca paused, then turned around and met Olivia's icy stare.
For some reason, he felt uneasy and blurted out, "Let Windy stay for a while. She got caught in the rain."
His tone was a command, not a question.
Olivia slowly clenched her fists.
Since their marriage, Luca had always been distant and cold toward her.
She had once clumsily and eagerly tried to please him, hoping for a bit of care and warmth.
Every time, she failed.
Olivia used to think Luca was just naturally cold, but seeing how attentive he was to Windy made her realize how foolish she had been.
Turns out, he wasn't impatient by nature. He just never had patience for her.
But it wasn't too late to see him for who he really was.
Olivia walked down the stairs, glanced at Windy's smug expression, and forced a smile. "Of course, Windy can stay as long as she wants."
Windy's eyes lit up. "Thank you, Olivia…"
"However," Olivia interrupted, looking at Luca. "Didn't you say you were taking me to the hospital? Let's go now."
Luca frowned, looking at her cold expression, and a sinking feeling in his chest.
This wasn't the reaction he expected from Olivia.
She should've been angry, gotten jealous, driven Windy away, or at least, argued with him.
"What? Luca, you're going to the hospital? Then I'll be left alone again…" Windy tugged at Luca's sleeve, sounding reluctant.
Luca snapped back to reality. "Let the driver take you. Windy can't stay here alone. Don't make a fuss."
"Fine." Olivia forced a smirk, her tone mocking. "The driver can take me. I won't keep you from looking after your lover."
"Olivia, watch your words!" Luca's gaze turned cold.
Olivia walked straight past him, grabbing her bag from the sofa. "We're still married. If she's not your lover, then what is she?"
She glanced at Windy's pale face, then walked out of the living room without looking back.
Luca clenched his fists, watching Olivia's frail figure disappear into the rain.
She seemed to be wearing very little. And she looked thinner than before, her shoulder blades even sticking out.
For a moment, Luca felt an urge to chase after her, but as soon as he took a step, Windy grabbed his arm.
He turned back and saw Windy's tear-filled eyes.
"I'm sorry, it's my fault for disturbing you and Olivia. Is she mad at me?" Her voice choked with grievance.
Luca patted her hand reassuringly. "It's not your fault. She's always had a bad temper."
In the end, Luca didn't go after Olivia.
But he did call the driver. He needed to know her condition as soon as the hospital results came out.
However, he called several times, and no one picked up.
Outside, the rain grew heavier, pounding against the windows.
In a storm like this, visibility was terrible, and accidents could happen way too easily.
Luca's brows furrowed, a faint unease rising in his chest.
"Damn it…" he muttered.
Just as he was about to call again, the driver's number popped up on his phone.
Luca answered immediately. "What's going on? What happened to you guys?!"
"Sir, it's bad! We just got onto the main road and crashed into another car. Madam was…"
Luca's mind went blank.
He couldn't even hear the rest of the words.
Anxiously, he grabbed his car keys and prepared to leave.
Windy was startled. "What's wrong? Did something happen to Olivia?"
"Olivia was in a car accident. I'm going to check on her!"
Windy bit her lip, looking upset. "But I'm scared—"
Bang!
Luca slammed the door shut, leaving Windy standing alone in the living room.
