Chapter 73
Mira
My eyes flew open at dawn. I centered myself with my first deep breath, finding my bearings in my body and in space.
I remembered where I was and what I was, yesterday’s events replaying in my head.
Needless to say, a wolfish grin spread across my face.
Feeling immediately energized I practically threw the covers off and got out of bed. I felt Dominic stir slightly but he stayed asleep as I walked over to a mirror to inspect myself for changes. Turning each way, I let my eyes wander over my reflection as my hands slid over my body.
My fingers traced the skin of my arms, shoulders, and across my chest. They continued down over my belly and hips and brushed the tops of my thighs. I was tingling along my spine and my skin felt electrified wherever it was touched.
I looked back to see Dominic still sleeping, his body turned away from me, and had an idea.
With only the dim morning light in the room, I quietly took off the t-shirt I wore to bed followed by the small shorts I paired with them. Thinking I might as well, I removed my underwear as well and looked back at myself.
This was not something I had done before, besides when looking for cancerous moles or something clinical like that. But now, I wanted to see myself. My body felt new to me, as if every molecule was enhanced and reassembled into an exact replica of myself only better. The return of my wolf not only heightened my senses and abilities, but filled me with a sensuality and desire I had never had before.
“Well, good morning.”
I screamed and crouched down to cover myself when I heard Dominic’s voice from the bed. When I dared to look back at him after throwing my t-shirt over me, he was laughing to himself but had his hands over his eyes.
“I promise I’m not looking, anymore,” he said.
“You should be looking at all!” I responded, mortified.
“It’s alright, Mira, I hardly saw anything, it’s still dark,” he said in defense. “And besides, we are Mates, so it wouldn’t be that inappropriate if I did see your body…like that.”
He said something to me telepathically as well, and I gasped as he complimented my body.
“It’s just a body, nothing special,” I said as I stood, dressed again. “But I do feel different, stronger, more aware…”
“I can already tell your wolf is strong, Mira,” he said, encouraging me. “You should’ve seen yourself when you emerged from through those doors— it was like an action movie!”
I smirked. “It did feel pretty cool to run out of there, very Rambo.”
He laughed, and the room seemed brighter.
“Hey,” I said moving back towards the bed, “I know it’s early, but since we’re up—“
“Since you woke me up,” he corrected me, teasing.
“Whatever,” I said, rolling my eyes. “Can we… Would you want to go for a run? Not just like, ‘a run,’ but— as wolves?”
Dominic
In minutes we were out the door and on our way, out the back entrance and in the woods before the sun had gotten halfway up the trees. I was able to transform easily, impressive given that she’d had her wolf back for less than twelve hours.
Her coat was even more beautiful than I remembered. Before I saw it in the harsh floodlights of the building, but now it was lit with morning sunlight as it refracted off the dewey ground beneath us. She was truly a deep golden color like honey on the comb, the fur thick and healthy and shimmering as she ran.
In contrast to my jet black tone, we were like yin and yang as we trampled and messed around with one another. Our innocent swats became more urgent and our touches heavier on one another. She nipped at my ear and I growled with pain and pleasure. Her eyes were lit up with excitement at this new freedom she had unlocked.
I followed her lead as we fell to the forest floor, feeling her change underneath me. Our bodies melted into an embrace as we returned to human form on the forest floor, panting with the exertion from our run.
We paused for a breath, our hearts beating in sync. The rhythm thumped in our chests and minds, the link between us like a live electrical wire. She took my hand and placed it on her chest, just below her collarbone and above her breast. Her hand reached across to mirror the gesture, and the closed circuit felt like the healing of a wound.
“It’s like we share one heart,” she mused.
“Mira…”
I was interrupted when she reached her hands to my face and pulled my mouth to hers. The sudden movement threw me off balance and I nearly collapsed onto her, catching my weight at a crucial moment before crushing her.
She was leading this dance, and closed my eyes to follow as she pressed her lips on mine. Her desire was palpable, her pheromones strong and driving me into a frenzy. As heat rushed to my groin, I felt the insatiable wolf rousing within me.
Mira responded with a soft murmur, and a soft growl rumbled in my throat.
“I want you.”
I moaned into her mouth, reflexively rolling fully onto her and bringing my hands to her head.
My fingers were lost in her hair, loose and wild. Her body was soft underneath me and gravity was winning the battle as my body pressed down on her.
Take her.
My mind was full of ideas and desires and images of how I wanted her. It would be so easy to take control of her body, bringing both of us the pleasure that we so clearly wanted. I kissed her neck, driven wild by the small gasps it brought out of her.
“My Alpha,” she whispered into my ear.
Suddenly responsibility flooded back into me and I remembered where I was. The Alpha of the Pack, rolling around half-naked in the middle of the woods with my Mate. And she was still a virgin.
I pulled myself up and off of her, the look in her eyes full of disappointment and confusion. It nearly broke me to stop, but I knew it was the right decision.
“We should…show some restraint,” I said, still breathing heavily.
This made her laugh. “So virtuous!” Then her eyes narrowed, her fingers tracing patterns on my face. “But you know, we don’t have to. We will be married soon, and we clearly both want this…”
Her eyes raked down my torso as she trailed off, a devilish smile I’d never seen before on her face. I inhaled fiercely through my nostrils and rolled away, groaning.
“I never took you for a temptress, Doctor,” I said.
She followed me as I moved, resting her head on my chest and curling into my side. I was amazed at how easily our bodies fit together.
“I guess reawakening my wolf has many side effects,” she cooed. “I suppose you’re right.”
Nuzzling into me, her breath evened out and her eyes closed. I stared up at the canopy of trees for another moment, wishing I could stay in this exact moment forever. Eventually my eyelids grew heavy and we both slipped under.
We woke up from a dreamless sleep to full sunlight shining onto our faces. Mira’s skin had a thin sheen of sweat on its surface, and I thought about licking it off of her. I shook my head to expel those thoughts.
I lay on my back, my right arm acting as a pillow for Mira’s head. She felt my movement and stirred, eyes opening to take in her surroundings. A wide smile spread across her face and she stretched after our morning nap.
“Do we need to head back?” she asked me.
“Not just yet, but soon,” I answered. “Duty calls eventually for the Alpha and Luna.”
A shadow crossed her face, and I reached over to stroke her cheek.
“What’s that?”
“Just thinking,” she said, knitting her brow. “Even with my wolf, I still worry I’m not up to the task. What if I can’t be a good Luna? Or a good wife?”
She avoided my eyes as she finished, but I pulled her gaze back to me.
“You will be perfect,” I told her. “I could not ask for a better Luna.”
“What makes you say that?” she asked, not buying it.
“Because,” I paused, looking into her golden eyes. “I love you.”
