Naina’s POV
In Mumbai University
The college hall was buzzing with excitement. Students were standing everywhere, laughing, cheering, and celebrating. Why? Because today was our graduation day. But honestly, I was probably the happiest one there. Why? Because after this day, I could finally go to New York. My dream. Haaye. I know, I know—it’s everyone’s dream.
“Naina Joshi!”
The principal suddenly shouted my name, dragging me back to reality. I quickly jumped up from my seat and rushed toward the stairs. Honestly, you could say I was almost running. The sound of clapping filled the hall, and my friends shouted my name loudly. With each step I took toward the stage, it felt like I was moving one step closer to my dream.
That feeling… it made me so emotional and proud of myself.
Standing in front of the principal, I smiled as he congratulated me. But the very next moment, he shouted—
“WAKE UPPPPP!”
I blinked in confusion. “Wait, sir! Why are you sounding like my Ma??”
And then… SPLASH! Something cold hit my face.
Water??
I immediately shot up and looked around in shock. I was in my room. What the—? I was just at college, right?
When I raised my head, I found Maa standing in front of me, holding a bucket and glaring at me like I’d just committed a crime. That’s when it hit me—
Great. That was also a dream.
“Oh god, when will this dream actually come true?” I groaned.
“Nain, you are getting late for college!” Maa shouted, making me jump.
“W-What? College?” I mumbled, still half-asleep and rubbing my eyes.
Maa slapped her forehead dramatically. “Hey, Parameshwara, what should I do with this girl?”
I rolled my eyes. Classic Asian mob behaviour.
And then Maa dropped the biggest bomb of the morning.
“Today is your graduation day. Don’t you remember?”
“WHAT?!” I shouted, my eyes going wide.
Maa stood there with her hands on her waist, raising one eyebrow like she was about to kill me.
Panicking, I grabbed my phone and checked the date. Monday. But how? Yesterday was Saturday! How did the weekend run away so fast? Why, god, why does the weekend always come like a tortoise but leave like a rabbit?
Without wasting another second, I jumped from the bed, hugged Maa tightly, wished her good morning, and dashed straight to the washroom.
While brushing my teeth, I could hear Maa complaining in the background to Papa about how spoiled I was. Well, excuse me, but which father doesn’t spoil his daughter?
After getting ready in record time, I ran into the hall—well, technically, it’s just a room, but I like calling it a hall to make myself feel fancy. Don’t ask me why, even I don’t know.
Throwing myself on the bed, I shouted toward the kitchen,
“Maaa, breakfast!!”
---
Ma came within a minute with breakfast. After giving me breakfast, Maa again went back to the kitchen. I was eating my breakfast when my mom taunted me about how I should wake up early and make breakfast for myself. What will I do when she goes somewhere?
After finishing my breakfast, I took my bag and got out of the house. But not before reminding Maa Papa to come to college on time, I hugged my papa and kissed my mom.
As I came out and saw my bike, my first love, my heart, my everything..
I started my bike and made my way to college. This bike isn’t just a bike for me—it’s my pride, my baby, my everything. After all, I won it in a competition… a boxing match, to be precise. Yeah, yeah, I know—“competition” sounds fancy, but the truth is I literally broke a few faces to earn this beauty.
Arey, karate aur boxing match tha… samajhte nahi ho kya?
Every time I ride this bike, it makes me feel powerful, like I’m the queen of the road. The wind hitting my face, the roar of the engine—it’s a feeling I can’t even put into words. The day I first got it, I was so, so happy, like I owned the whole world. But of course, nothing comes for free. The maintenance of this beast is sky-high. I have to save money like crazy for it; otherwise, Maa will definitely sell it off. And that… is my biggest nightmare.
Oh, and let me tell you one more thing about me. Whenever I go to college and see random boys trying to act smart, I whistle at them or sometimes even wink. Not everyone, just the ones who think they’re too cool.
Why do I do this? Simple. I love watching that awkward expression on their faces. The way they shuffle, look away, or get embarrassed—it’s priceless.
Why shouldn’t they get a taste of their own medicine?
So yeah, that’s me—Naina Joshi. You're not-so-typical girl who believes in giving back exactly what she gets. Boys think they’re the kings of cheap stunts, right? Well, sorry, boys, the crown is mine now.
Anyway, after whistling at a guy who almost tripped over his own feet because of me (poor fellow, may his confidence rest in peace), I finally reached the college gate.
The atmosphere was electric. Everyone was dressed their best—selfies everywhere, girls fixing their hair, boys pretending they didn’t spend two hours in front of the mirror. Graduation day, after all. Everyone wanted to look picture-perfect.
I parked my bike like a boss, pulled off my helmet in slow motion—because why not? Main bhi heroine hoon—and walked inside.
And guess what? The stares began. Some looked impressed, some were jealous, and some… well, confused, like “Yeh ladki hai ya tornado?”
Honestly, I loved it. Attention isn’t something I crave, but if it comes to me, I’m not exactly running away from it either.
I spotted my friend standing near the entrance, waving at me like a maniac.
“Arre, Naina! Tu late hai, chal jaldi!” she shouted.
I jogged toward her, grinning. “Relax, madam. Hero ko hamesha late entry deni padti hai. Samjhi?”
She rolled her eyes. “Bas kar Katrina. Ab andar chal, warna tere bina group photo reh jayega.”
And just like that, we headed in together. My heart was racing with excitement—today wasn’t just a graduation day. It was the beginning of the journey toward my dream. New York was calling me… and trust me, I was more than ready to answer.
Clap. Clap. Clap.
The entire hall echoed with applause. I stood there, holding my graduation degree tightly in my hands, my heart bursting with dreams. My eyes searched the crowd until they landed on the two people who mattered the most—Papa and Maa.
They were smiling at me, but their eyes were wet with tears of pride.
Yes, Papa. Yes, Maa. One day, I promise I’ll change our lives—the life you both couldn’t live because of me.
With that thought, I stepped down from the stage and headed straight toward them. The moment I reached, I threw my arms around them, hugging them tightly.
And then, like a flood, people started coming toward me. Almost the entire college was there to congratulate me. Why not? I was famous—though not for the usual reasons. Not because I was a topper or some genius student. Nope. I was famous because I was… well, a certified pain in their ass.
There wasn’t a single day my parents didn’t receive a complaint about me—how I beat someone up, how I broke some stupid rule, how I caused “trouble.” Suspension letters were practically part of my stationery.
Honestly, I think my teachers and principal were happier than me today. Because from now on, there would be no more complaints, no more fights, no more parents storming into the office shouting, “Look what she did to my child!”
Yep. They were finally free from me. Lucky them.
But me? I wasn’t done yet. This was just the beginning.
So tell me, how's the chapter?. Don't be a silent reader.
