Chapter 6 Back in the midst of wolves
“Hazel”!!
Someone yelled, drawing all of their attention. As soon as Hazel turned, she saw her best friend since childhood standing by the door and panting like she had just run a very long distance.
“Cathy”?
Hazel called and Cathy ran to her and hugged her so tightly.
“You little b*tch how could you vanish without telling me”?
She said still hugging her and Hazel smiled.
“I'm sorry, I didn't have much of a choice”.
Cathy moved away a bit but still kept her hand on Hazel's shoulder.
She looked angry, but Hazel knew she wasn't.
“You could have run over to my place, I would have hidden you from this big bully”.
She said, shooting lasers at Kael through her eyes.
Hazel smiled and shook her head.
Cathy sighed and looked at her for a while before she hugged her again.
“I'm so happy your back”.
She said and Hazel nodded.
“I missed you too”.
They were still catching up when Lucian's tiny voice sounded from the stairs.
“Godmother”!
He called out, causing everyone to look at him.
“Mnnn”?
Dona answered and his tiny hands waved at her, asking her to come over.
Dona looked at all of them and smiled nervously before she began walking upstairs.
Although she was feeling a bit left out seeing as Hazel was finally back with the people that cared about her, she was a bit glad that she was invisible. They didn't seem to not like her, they just didn't notice her.
But Lucian changed that in seconds when he called out to her.
Seeing all of their eyes on her, her heart began to beat so fast.
She tried to walk away as quickly as she could, but her legs didn't seem to agree with her.
“Who is she”?
Cathy asked as she kept looking at her walk away.
“That Dona, my friend”.
She said and Cathy looked a bit shocked but she immediately masked it.
“Whatever, I won't ask you not to have a friend, as long as she doesn't take my position”.
She said and Hazel smiled.
“No one can take your place”.
Dona heard her and she paused for a little while before she began walking away even faster.
“I guess we are not so similar, you have friends".
She said as she walked towards Lucian.
When she got to Lucian, she looked downstairs and saw Hazel looking so happy but shook her head and left with Lucian.
After a while, Cathy and Miguel were about to leave so Hazel could rest.
“I'll show you to your room”?
He said but she shook her head.
That won't be necessary, I'll be staying with Lucian".
She said and he sighed as he knew there was no point pushing it.
As he watched her walk away, he spoke.
“What I'd give to see you smile at me the way you smiled earlier”.
After she left, Miguel moved towards Kael with a rather serious look, causing Kael to raise a brow.
“Is something wrong”?
He asked and Miguel asked.
“Isn't it too soon”?
He asked but Kael remained silent, waiting for him to continue speaking.
“Getting married to her now, do you think that's the right thing to do? She just got back”.
He said and Kael nodded.
“Mnn, she just got back which is the more reason why I must get married to her immediately”.
He said and Miguel looked confused.
“I lost her once Miguel. I lost her because of my foolishness, I have no intention of doing that again”.
He said but Miguel scoffed lightly.
“And you believe this isn't foolish as well”?
He asked and Kael looked like he was getting pretty irritated.
“What are you driving at”?
He asked and Miguel exhaled heavily before he continued.
“You're rushing her into a loveless marriage. As far as I know, that is only going to push her away even more.
You should have tried to win her back first instead of trying to tie her up as soon as you got the chance to".
He said but Kael said nothing and just looked at him for a pretty long time before walking away.
As soon as Kael left, Miguel's fist curled up in a fist.
He couldn't hide the fact that he hated the plan. He couldn't hide the fact that he didn't want them to get married, at least not yet.
“Waw, so much drama for a girl who doesn't even see you as a man”.
He didn't turn but he knew it was Cathy.
“You know… this might be your only chance to actually get Hazel. But the question still remains… will she choose you over Kael”?
She said and moved in front of him as she tilted one side of her body to the left so she could see him clearly.
“Can you win over him this time around”?
She asked and smiled before standing straight with her hand at her back.
“I'll support whoever Hazel chooses. She's my best friend”.
She said and left while Miguel remained there for a while.
He has been in love with Hazel for so long he could hardly remember a time when he didn't love her.
But no matter what he did, her heart was always with someone else… Kael.
She was obsessed with him and she didn't mind showing it at all.
And when he saw the mate string form between them, he was about to give up until Kael suddenly rejected her.
Having her back was the happiest he has been in years but hearing Kael suddenly propose to her just pissed him off.
“You don't deserve her. You can't toss her away and take her back just because you feel like it”.
He said to himself before walking away.
Kael was also having his thoughts in his study.
He knew the marriage wouldn't make her fall for him again but he felt it would pull them closer.
Hearing Miguel say all those things made him rethink if his decision was actually going to chase her away.
While he was lost in thought, he heard a knock and before the person entered, he already knew it was her. Her scent could never be mistaken.
“Can I come in”?
Hazel asked with her head inside and Kael nodded.
“Lucian is sleeping with Dona. He's very comfortable around her".
She said as she walked in and he nodded.
When they were both seated, he asked.
“Do you need something"?
He asked and she cleared her throat before she nodded, looking at him seriously, she spoke.
“I need to see everything you've gathered on them in the past five years”.
