Chapter 5 Magical Beasts

Yvette's POV

Hardwin brought me to the elevator entrance - well, not exactly an elevator, just a transparent platform.

Standing on the platform, blue light particles rose up around us. In just one breath, we arrived at the fifth floor, which was also the top floor.

The fifth-floor hallway was crowded with people wearing all sorts of different clothes. Some were leaning on the railings looking around, others were whispering quietly. The whole place was buzzing with activity.

"Stand properly!" Hardwin's old face turned stern. "You're students of the Magic Academy now. You can't be all loose and sloppy like before. Everything must follow the rules!"

All the students immediately lined up properly, not daring to even breathe heavily.

If anyone felt awkward, it had to be me. Should I join the line? Or just keep standing here like a pole?

The next second, Hardwin's cold eyes landed on me. "Do I need to personally invite you over?"

"Huh? No, no need." I quickly ran to the end of the line and aligned myself.

Hardwin waved his hand. "Behind you is your classroom. Go in."

Arriving at the classroom door, I saw a wooden sign with four big words: Announcement Classroom.

Looking at all these people around, I couldn't help but feel worried for that fire-breathing guy from earlier - with so many people here, washing clothes for two months, how painful would that be?

After entering the classroom, everyone rushed to grab front-row seats. Only I consciously sat in the back corner.

Thinking about all these years, this had always been my designated spot. Because I caused trouble so often, teachers only had one requirement for me: don't disturb others' normal learning!

As for grades, that was never something I needed to worry about anyway.

Sitting in the corner, looking at the sunny lawn outside the window, the blue sky and white clouds, my heart was filled with confusion.

I'd stumbled into this Magic Academy in a daze, with no father or mother. Where should my next step be? What would my future look like?

Before I could think it through, a silver-haired girl beside me smiled and greeted me. "Hi there, I'm Milia Stone. What's your name? Can we be friends?"

Looking at her outstretched hand, I was a bit stunned, because this girl was just too beautiful. Her deep eyes were like sapphires, and with that high nose bridge and defined features, she was as beautiful as Venus!

"Hmm?" Milia blinked her beautiful big eyes. "Don't you want to be friends with me?"

"No, no, no!" I quickly shook my head, and after gathering my thoughts, extended my palm. "Hi, I'm Yvette. Thank you for wanting to be friends with me."

Milia smiled. "I should be thanking you. You're the first friend I've made at the Magic Academy!"

Though I didn't say it out loud, I knew clearly in my heart that she was also my first friend - just didn't know if she'd be my last.

All my life, no one wanted to be friends with me. In those people's eyes, I was nothing but a walking disaster that must be avoided!

Milia lowered her head and asked quietly, "What's your special ability?"

I pursed my lips, really not knowing how to answer.

Of course I knew that people who came to the Magic Academy all had their own abilities - not just anyone could come. But until now, I still didn't know what my special ability was. If I had to say, would causing trouble and making a mess count? Probably not.

Milia continued, "My ability is controlling wind. I can make the wind help me do anything, just not very skilled at it yet. The wind speed isn't strong enough. Oh right, you still haven't told me your special ability. We're friends now, tell me about it." She seemed quite curious.

I looked serious on the surface, but my hands were already twisted into a knot under the desk. How should I answer this?

Milia wanted to ask more, but was scolded by Hardwin. "Silence! This is a classroom. Talking loudly or whispering quietly are both not allowed! If anyone dares to do it again, there will be no mercy!"

Well, that was good. Even if you gave Milia twice the courage, she wouldn't dare speak again.

Then Hardwin waved his hand. "Now we'll distribute this semester's books. Everyone study hard, no slacking off, or you'll be expelled from the Magic Academy!" Right after, he snapped his fingers at the air.

The next second, a flock of white birds descended from the sky, carrying thick books in their beaks and claws. The students in the classroom turned to look out the window, each one full of curiosity about the white birds.

"The books are distributed by white birds? So amazing, worthy of being a Magic Academy!"

"Yeah, these birds aren't ordinary either. They must be magic beasts belonging to some teachers and professors!"

"Ah, so envious. I wonder when I'll be able to have my own magic beast?"

Magic beasts, as the name suggests, are divine creatures transformed through magic, similar to mounts, and are what countless Magic Academy students dream of.

Of course, not every student could have their own magic beast. The right time, place, and conditions - all three were essential!

Compared to other students' curiosity and excitement, I felt more confused.

Was I sure I belonged here? This was completely different from my previous life - like a hundred and eight thousand miles apart!

The next moment, I shook my head, clearing away the extra thoughts in my mind.

Now wasn't the time to think about these things. Since I was here, I had to study hard and try my best to stay, because I had no way back.

Looking at the thick books on the desk, I randomly picked one up. It had a few big words written on it: Perception and Meditation! Looks like this was the first lesson Professor Hardwin mentioned.

"These are the textbooks you'll use this semester. You must study them thoroughly. Any knowledge point could appear in the basic exam. If you don't pass the basic exam, no one can protect you!"

Then he distributed uniforms and daily necessities. The uniform was light blue overall, and the silver trim on the sleeves had become yellow trim. Looks like only after passing the basic exam and officially staying at St. Daye Academy would the yellow trim turn to silver.

As for the uniform colors, they were probably divided based on one's own strength and how long they'd been at the academy.

Of course, according to Hardwin, the most important thing was a school rulebook distributed to them.

"What you're seeing now is our academy's rulebook." Hardwin said in a deep voice. "It lists all prohibited matters and punishment levels. If violated, there will be no mercy!"

I pouted my lips and couldn't help complaining, "How long has it been? He's already said 'no mercy' at least three times. Does this guy have some kind of obsession?"

Although I was pretty panicked right now, my habit of complaining about people really couldn't be changed.

No help for it - it was in my nature.

After class, Milia and I took our dorm room cards and left together.

What a coincidence - we were assigned to the same dorm. Milia even thoughtfully helped me make my bed. "It's okay, you don't need to worry. I do this kind of thing at home all the time. I'm used to it!"

While grateful, I took a small step back, because I really couldn't do these chores. If I forced myself to help, I'd only make things worse.
