I followed Mum to Edinburgh, watching as they carried her into the hospital.

She hadn't spoken in three days.

I floated beside her hospital bed, wanting desperately to touch her hand, to tell her I was okay, that I wasn't in pain anymore.

But she couldn't see me. Couldn't hear me.
