I Left the Mafia Don, Married His Rival
Joy Brown · Completed · 11.1k Words
Introduction
It turned out to be my husband's wedding ring.
An hour before, he'd texted me. Said he loved me. Said he was too busy with work to come home.
I wanted a divorce. Needed one. But then I found out—our marriage was never registered.
In his manor, I was nothing. Just a fake wife.
He grabbed me by the throat—right in front of his mistress. Called me "damaged goods." Said I'd spent a year in another man's house.
But that year, I went as a hostage in his place.
I ran. Made it to the cliff's edge, covered in blood. And the man who saved me? The mafia godfather who'd held me captive that whole year.
He looked at me. "Marry me."
Chapter 1
Scarlett's POV
"Not so rough, Dr. Cole. God, it hurts!" The blonde on the examination table writhed, her legs trembling in the stirrups.
"Relax. The obstruction is lodged deep," I said, my voice professionally flat. As one of the top OB/GYNs in the country, I'd handled my fair share of bizarre ER cases.
The moment my metal forceps struck something hard, my pulse steadied.
Found it.
Holding my breath, I carefully extracted the object. It emerged slick with mucus and streaks of blood.
I looked down. In an instant, my blood ran cold.
It was a men's platinum wedding band. Engraved clearly on the inner curve was N & S. Forever.
It was my husband's wedding ring!
Just an hour ago, Nelson had texted me: [Happy Valentine's Day, baby. We've got an arms deal at the docks tonight, I can't get away. Love you, forever.]
And now, this ring had just been pulled out of another woman's body.
Click. The sound of a lighter flicking echoed through the crack of the clinic door, followed immediately by the raucous, brassy laughter of Nelson's thugs.
"Fuck it, Boss. You actually had the balls to bring Ivy here? Your wife's on shift tonight!" Lucas took a heavy drag of his cigar.
"Wife? Cut the bullshit!" another lackey scoffed, his voice booming with unapologetic malice. "She's nothing but another Don's leftovers. What kind of wife is that?"
"Exactly! Three years ago, she went in as a hostage and stayed with Sebastian for a whole damn year! God knows how many men took turns on her in that estate." Another chimed in. "The Boss is the youngest Mafia head in the States now. Keeping her in the manor instead of tossing her into the slums is practically an act of mercy!"
I stared blankly at the crack in the door.
The man standing in the hallway, draped in a black trench coat and biting down on a cigar, was my husband, Nelson Pierce.
He leaned against the wall, listening to his own men humiliate his wife with the most vitriolic, filthy words imaginable.
He didn't draw his gun. He didn't snap at them. He didn't even utter a single reprimand.
That silence was more deafening than any insult.
Three years ago, the Pierce family was betrayed. Nelson was crushed under the heel of his sworn enemy, half the bones in his body shattered, hovering on the brink of death.
It was me. I was the one who knelt alone in the freezing snow before the car of Sebastian Ashford, the supreme Mafia Godfather. I offered myself up as a pawn—just to buy Nelson's life.
A year later, Nelson rescued me from my house arrest. He pressed a searing kiss to my forehead. "Scarlett, you are my only salvation. I swear, from now on, I will give you the best of everything."
Lies. It was all a goddamn lie.
Bang!
The clinic door was kicked open. Nelson strode in.
When he saw the bloody wedding band sitting in the tray, a flash of panic and evasion crossed his eyes.
But he didn't look at me. He simply scooped the blonde on the exam table into his arms. "Ivy, baby, it's okay. I've got you."
His voice was so tender it could melt ice. His large hand stroked the girl's hair with sickening affection.
Ivy clung to his chest, weeping pitifully. "Nelson, it hurts so much. Dr. Cole was so rough. Does she... does she hate me?" Even as she sobbed, she shot me a triumphant, provocative glance from the corner of her eye.
Nelson snapped his head toward me. "Scarlett! What the hell is wrong with you?!" he roared. "You're a doctor! Where are your damn professional ethics? Why did you hurt her on purpose?!"
I stood frozen, feeling as if a bucket of ice water had been dumped over my head.
Hurt her on purpose? My husband brought his mistress in with the physical evidence of his affair lodged inside her, and dared to accuse me of lacking ethics?
I was so furious I actually let out a hollow laugh. Picking up the cold metal tray, I walked toward him, step by agonizing step.
"Nelson. Care to explain why this wedding ring—the one engraved with our initials—was buried inside this woman?"
Nelson's jaw went taut. He stared me down, his eyes utterly devoid of guilt.
"Explain what?" he scoffed, his tone dripping with arrogant superiority. "Scarlett, I'm a man. More than that, I'm a Mafia boss. Did you think expanding our territory didn't require 'mingling'? Do you expect a man to eat the same meal every day for the rest of his life?"
He justified his betrayal with staggering audacity.
"So, losing your wedding ring inside her was your way of expanding territory?" My voice finally broke into an uncontrollable tremble.
Nelson's face darkened.
"Don't play the holy virgin with me, Scarlett," he sneered. "You think I don't know? You stayed with Sebastian for a whole year. You think I don't know exactly what you two did behind closed doors?"
I looked at him in sheer, heart-wrenching disbelief.
In fact, Sebastian just locked me up and didn't do anything to me.
"I did it to save you!" I screamed, the desperation finally tearing through. "If I hadn't offered myself up, you would've died in a sewer three years ago!"
"And that's why I kept you around! That's why I gave you the title of my wife!" Nelson violently shoved me aside.
He snatched a coat and draped it gently over Ivy's shivering shoulders.
Nestling into his chest like she'd won a prize, Ivy turned back to flash me one last smirk before the door slammed shut.
I was left alone in the cold silence of the examination room.
Two years of marriage. Ten years of history. Life and death.
In his eyes, our marriage had merely been a reluctant act of charity because he found me "dirty." He truly believed that the humiliation I endured to save his life was a stain of betrayal against him.
How pathetic. I ripped off my bloody gloves and hurled them into the trash. My tears didn't fall, they burned.
I pulled out my phone and dialed my private attorney, Marcus.
"Marcus," my voice was hoarse but resolute. "I want a divorce. Draft the papers immediately. I want Nelson Pierce to pay. I'm going after every single one of his casino shares."
Dead silence met me on the other end.
"Marcus? Are you there?" I frowned.
"Scarlett..." Marcus's voice was thin, trembling with panic. "Calm down for a second. I... I can't do that."
"What are you so afraid of?" I demanded. "With me backing you, Nelson wouldn't dare touch you!"
"No, it's not that," Marcus took a deep, shuddering breath. "Scarlett, I just had someone run a check on the federal marriage registry."
"You and Nelson can't get a divorce."
I froze. "What do you mean?"
Over the phone, Marcus dropped a bomb that plunged me into an icy abyss.
"Your marriage certificate is a fake. According to the state, you're already married to someone else."

I hate girls like her.
Entitled.
Delicate.
And still—
Still.
The image of her standing in the doorway, clutching her cardigan tighter around her narrow shoulders, trying to smile through the awkwardness, won’t leave me.
Neither does the memory of Tyler. Leaving her here without a second thought.
I shouldn’t care.
I don’t care.
It’s not my problem if Tyler’s an idiot.
It’s not my business if some spoiled little princess has to walk home in the dark.
I’m not here to rescue anyone.
Especially not her.
Especially not someone like her.
She’s not my problem.
And I’ll make damn sure she never becomes one.
But when my eyes fell on her lips, I wanted her to be mine.

What? No—wait… oh Moon Goddess, no.
Please tell me you're joking, Lex.
But she's not. I can feel her excitement bubbling under my skin, while all I feel is dread.
We turn the corner, and the scent hits me like a punch to the chest—cinnamon and something impossibly warm. My eyes scan the room until they land on him. Tall. Commanding. Beautiful.
And then, just as quickly… he sees me.
His expression twists.
"Fuck no."
He turns—and runs.

How Not To Fall For A Dragon
Which is why it was more than a little confusing when a letter arrived with my name already printed on a schedule, a dorm waiting, and classes picked out as if someone knew me better than I knew myself. Everyone knows the Academy, it’s where witches sharpen their spells, shifters master their forms, and every kind of magical creature learns to control their gifts.
Everyone except me.
I don’t even know what I am. No shifting, no magic tricks, nothing. Just a girl surrounded by people who can fly, conjure fire, or heal with a touch. So I sit through classes pretending I belong, and I listen hard for any clue that might tell me what’s hidden in my blood.
The only person more curious than me is Blake Nyvas, tall, golden-eyed, and very much a Dragon. People whisper that he’s dangerous, warn me to keep my distance. But Blake seems determined to solve the mystery of me, and somehow I trust him more than anyone else.
Maybe it’s reckless. Maybe it’s dangerous.
But when everyone else looks at me like I don’t belong, Blake looks at me like I’m a riddle worth solving.

Steamy, fierce, and full of heart, Goddess of the Underworld is a reverse harem, found-family paranormal romance where love writes the rules and keeps three realms from falling apart.
A pack of their own
The Pack: Rule Number 1 - No Mates
"Let me go," I whimper, my body trembling with need. "I don't want you touching me."
I fall forward onto the bed then turn around to stare at him. The dark tattoos of Domonic's chiseled shoulders, quiver and and expand with the heave of his chest. His deep dimpled smile is full of arrogance as he reaches behind himself to lock the door.
Biting his lip, he stalks toward me, his hand going to the seam of his pants and the thickening bulge there.
"Are you sure you don't want me to touch you?" He whispers, untying the knot and slipping a hand inside. "Because I swear to God, that is all I have been wanting to do. Every single day from the moment you stepped in our bar and I smelled your perfect flavor from across the room."
New to the world of shifters, Draven is human on the run. A beautiful girl who no one could protect. Domonic is the cold Alpha of the Red Wolf Pack. A brotherhood of twelve wolves that live by twelve rules. Rules which they vowed could NEVER be broken.
Especially - Rule Number One - No Mates
When Draven meets Domonic, he knows that she is his mate, but Draven has no idea what a mate is, only that she has fallen in love with a shifter. An Alpha that will break her heart to make her leave. Promising herself, she will never forgive him, she disappears.
But she doesn’t know about the child she’s carrying or that the moment she left, Domonic decided rules were made to be broken - and now will he ever find her again? Will she forgive him?
The Human Among Wolves
My stomach twisted, but he wasn’t finished.
"You're just a pathetic little human," Zayn said, his words deliberate, each one hitting like a slap. "Spreading your legs for the first guy who bothers to notice you."
Heat rushed to my face, burning with humiliation. My chest ached — not from his words alone, but from the sick realization that I had trusted him. That I had let myself believe he was different.
I was so, so stupid.

Her body ignites. Her instincts scream. And something primal stirs beneath her skin—

Rise of the Banished She-Wolf
That roar stole my eighteenth birthday and shattered my world. My first shift should have been glory—blood turned blessing into shame. By dawn they'd branded me "cursed": cast out by my pack, abandoned by family, stripped of my nature. My father didn't defend me—he sent me to a forsaken island where wolfless outcasts were forged into weapons, forced to kill each other until only one could leave.
On that island I learned the darkest edges of humanity and how to bury terror in bone. Countless times I wanted to surrender—dive into the waves and never surface—but the accusing faces that haunted my dreams pushed me back toward something colder than survival: revenge. I escaped, and for three years I hid among humans, collecting secrets, learning to move like a shadow, sharpening patience into precision—becoming a blade.
Then, under a full moon, I touched a bleeding stranger—and my wolf returned with a violence that made me whole. Who was he? Why could he wake what I'd thought dead?
One thing I know: now is the time.
I have waited three years for this. I will make everyone who destroyed me pay—and take back everything that was stolen from me.
Invisible To Her Bully
Falling For The Biker: The Vice President's Girl
His eyes darken, flicking to my mouth.
"It's wrong. Your brother would slit my throat for just standing this close. But tell me, little bird" his breath ghosts my skin, "are you trembling because you hate me… or because you've wanted this just as much as I have?"
Wren thought she'd buried the chaos of New Orleans for good—the clubs, the blood-soaked loyalties, the men who lived and died by their kuttes. Seattle gave her everything she ever wanted: freedom, love, a future.
But one betrayal shatters it all.
Dragged home by tragedy, Wren finds herself under the watchful eye of Ezra Jax—the Raven Reapers MC's vice president and her brother's best friend. He's infuriating, dangerous, and far too tempting for a man she should never touch.
And the deeper Wren is pulled back into his world, the more she realizes nothing about her past—or about Ezra—is what she believed.
In the chaos of gang wars, mounting debts, and old betrayals, he becomes the one constant. The more she fights him, the harder she falls. And the more he pushes her away, the more lethal his pull becomes.
Because in this world, love isn't sweet.
It's brutal. Bloody.
And it's bound to break them both.
When loyalty is everything and love can cost your life, will Wren risk her heart on the one man she was never meant to love?
