Chapter 4
I spent the night at Eliana's house.
We drank a lot and I poured out all my grievances from the past few years.
It wasn’t until I said I wanted a divorce that Eliana’s eyes filled with tears.
“Cyndi, whatever you decide to do, I will support you. All I want is for you to be happy.”
Her words touched and healed me.
I hugged her tightly and cried, releasing all my pent-up frustrations in that moment.
The next day, I went to the law firm and got the divorce papers.
Then I drove back home.
As soon as I walked in, I saw Aaron and Jenifer sitting at the dining table, enjoying breakfast.
Jenifer was wearing my pajamas.
I approached them with a cold expression, divorce papers in hand.
Upon seeing me, Jenifer quickly forced a smile.
“Cynthia, there was a power outage at my house last night, so I just stayed over in your study.”
My gaze fell on her pajamas, and I let out a cold laugh.
Noticing my frosty demeanor, Jenifer shifted her attention to Aaron.
“Aaro, Cynthia’s pajamas are what you gave me to change into, but it seems like Cynthia cares a lot.”
Seeing her act all innocent, anyone who didn’t know would think my glare was cutting her deep!
Yet Aaron still seemed to buy into her manipulative charm.
He frowned at me, saying, “It’s just a piece of sleepwear. Why are you taking it out on her?”
I was so infuriated that I laughed.
Without saying a word, Aaron easily pinned the blame on me based on Jenifer’s one-sided account.
He always sided with her, never considering my feelings.
I slammed the divorce papers down on the table.
“Sign it.”
Aaron looked closely at the bold words on the divorce agreement.
“What do you mean? You want to divorce me?”
“What else can I do?”
I fixed my gaze on him, refusing to flinch.
Aaron’s expression darkened; he seemed angry.
“Must you be so unreasonable? We’re at the point of divorce now.”
I curled my lips into a cold smile.
Even now, he still thought I was just being unreasonable.
“I’m not being unreasonable. Let’s get a divorce.”
My calm words echoed loudly in the silent room.
Seeing how far we had come, Jenifer quickly squeezed out a couple of tears and looked at Aaron pitifully.
“I’m so sorry, I really didn’t mean to go on a trip with Aaro. I didn’t intend to stay over either. Please don’t let this escalate because of me. I’m so sorry…”
Her feigned sobs made it seem as if I was the villain in this story!
Seeing her cry, Aaron looked distressed.
“Why do you have to be like this? Jenny has lost her parents. She just came over for one night because her power is out. Must you be so petty?”
Seeing the look on his face, I had lost all desire to communicate with him.
“Fine, since we can’t talk it out, I’ll bring the divorce papers again tomorrow. As long as you refuse to sign, I’ll keep coming back until you do.”
With that, I picked up the divorce papers and left.
Aaron, meanwhile, gently comforted Jenifer, claiming that I was just being jealous and overreacting, urging her not to take it to heart.
But what he didn’t know was that I wasn’t just throwing a tantrum; I genuinely wanted a divorce.
