Chapter 4

Lucian's POV

“Mate!”

Her words keep ringing in my ears like a hammer on an anvil as I walk out of the prison house with no clear destination in mind. I have finally seen her after waiting patiently for over eight years. I’m supposed to be happy, but I can't afford to be. She is the perfect definition of everything that could go wrong. She has almost every wrong combination of things I hate. First, she might be a human, a creature I don't trust due to their constant betrayal. Also, I'm one of the leading Alphas in the world, and I need a very strong and capable Luna beside me.

However, if she's a werewolf then she's a rogue and I have sworn after the death of my twin brother to kill every rogue who crosses my path. I can't accept her, I just can't. Who knows she might be dangerous to the pack. Or still, she might be a spy from Midnight Howlers Pack.

She can't be my Luna, I have to reject her and sentence her to the normal death penalty for rogues.

“What? Why?” My wolf Arthur growled. “She's our mate, Lucian. You can't possibly do that,” he tried to reason with me. “If you kill our mate we could easily go crazy.”

“She's a rogue Arthur, you know how hard it was after Lucas was killed in that rogue attack,” I said. “Also she might be human. I don't even know what she is. She doesn't have a scent.”

“Don't be an ashole Lucian. Don't you dare lay your fcking hand on her, if you do, I will destroy everything and kill everyone you love and cherish. I'm not joking.” He threatened. “We've been waiting for her for eight years and we finally met her and you want to mess it up?”

I decided to shut Arthur out completely to avoid his nagging, cause once he starts, there is no stopping anytime soon.

But goddess, she is beautiful. By far the most beautiful girl I have ever laid my eyes on. But this is all just too complicated.

I stop at the front of a set of double doors and I'm not even surprised. Whenever I encounter a confounding problem that I can't see through, I go to my mother.

Luna Rebekah. At least until I find my mate, which I have already. However, I'm not sure I can accept her.

I push open the door. My mother looks up from her bed in surprise. “You look tense, Lucian. What's eating you up?” She said upon registering the look on my face. She sets the book she's reading down and pats the bed. “Come, sit. Tell me what's wrong.”

I walk over to her and sit beside her on the bed.

“I found my mate,” I say.

“Well, that is good news, isn't it?” She asks with a wide smile.

“It's supposed to be but it's not. She doesn't have a wolf scent which is weird. I don't know what she is and if she's a werewolf she is a rogue.” I replied. “ I don't even know what to do.”

“What do you mean you don't know what to do?” She asks with a raised eyebrow. “You finally found what you've been searching for and waiting for for years and suddenly you don't know what to do?”

“She might be human, Mum. You know how weak those creatures are and how untrustworthy they are. There is a little difference between them and rogues. If she happens to be a werewolf then she probably doesn't have a wolf cause I can't sense one in her. Worse of all she would be a rogue and you know how I feel about them after what happened to Lucas. I'm going to reject her, mum and sentence her to death.” I replied and I could feel Arthur's annoyance at my words.

‘Don’t even start with me!’ I warned him.

“You will do no such thing, Lucian Grey!” My mum thundered. “I, your mother and Luna of this Pack forbid you from rejecting and sentencing a poor girl to death. How can you say you want to reject and sentence your mate to death? Do you know what this will do to you?”

“I don't..”

“How does your wolf feel about this?” She asked cutting me off.

“I think you know the answer to that question Mum.”

“See Lucian, you've got to think this through and be very careful with your decisions. She's your mate! You're to love, protect and cherish her. It doesn't matter if she's a human, a vampire or a rogue wolf. She's your mate, your gift from the moon goddess. Please don't do something stupid.” She says.

“But mum, I can't accept a rogue or a vampire as my mate after what happened to Dad and Lucas. Besides, she could even be a spy sent by Midnight Howlers Pack, they must have given her some sort of magic to manipulate my mate bond.”

“I witnessed everything, Lucian. But I have said my piece. Think about it, don't make a hasty decision which you'll later regret.” She says. “Tell me about her and what's her name.

“I don't know anything about her Mum. Warriors on patrol saw her at the eastern border, she was unconscious.” I replied leaving the part where I asked Edgar to lock her up.

“So you don't know anything about the poor girl, not even her name and you've already assumed she's a rogue?” She questioned. “Okay, what does she look like? How did you find out she is your mate? And where is she, can I see her?”

“Calm down Mum. She's a pretty girl, by far the prettiest girl I have ever laid my eyes on. And how I found out she's my mate is kind of a long story.”

“Wait, Lucian Grey, don't tell me you ordered your m-…”

“What?” I growled. Immediately, I got the message Arthur was passing to me, startling my mum and cutting her off mid-sentence.
