Chapter 6 An Unplanned Wife

Elijah

The plan was never to attack Silver Pack. I just didn’t want to see them happy.

The disruption was planned to happen on my brother’s coronation. Then I realized that the coronation could happen anytime. I needed to leave a mark. Something that my father would never forget. I was told of the wedding just a few hours before I attacked. A wedding of the future Alpha, a day decided by the moon goddess herself. The only day chosen for the Alpha in that lifetime.

What I didn’t plan was getting married instead. It was a sick joke. One I’m yet to find an answer to. Lara is something else. She was drop-dead gorgeous. The kind of beauty that packs go to war for. If we had met in other circumstances, maybe just maybe we would have hit it off. But I basically stole her from her life and the moment she opened her mouth, her beauty fades and she makes you want to rip your hair off.

Or her clothes off.

I tried to focus on what Axel was saying but all my mind could go back to was the night before. I summoned every ounce of self-control I had not to storm into her room and break the door down. Yet, seeing her in my room in that dress that hugged her every curve in the right places made me go feral. Her voice panting my name kept ringing in my head. The images sent volts of electricity down the wrong place.

“We also need to get more men at the boundaries since the attack last night. We need to be..”

My attention on Axel was immediately cut short when a soft laugh rang throughout the room. Everyone else didn't notice but it’s her. Lara. And someone was making her laugh genuinely. My head snapped in her direction and I saw that fool, Ron, telling her something that apparently is so funny that she’s throwing her head back in laughter. Something in my head snapped. She never laughs that way with me. Not that I want her to but Ron doesn’t get to.

“Getting comfortable, are we?”

If there’s one thing I learnt last night, it’s that I could talk to her without saying it out loud. Call it mind link or whatever crap the mate enthusiasts called it. I saw her small fall off her face and for some reason, it made me happy. If I couldn’t make her smile then at least I could piss her off.

Bastard.

Her voice swore and I had to stop myself from grinning. She looked better when she was pissed.

“Elijah? Elijah?” Axel gently bumped my shoulder bringing my attention back.

“Sorry. You were saying?” He looked at me in confusion before turning to look at Lara.

“Is the marriage real? I thought it was an act.” Axel said. Axel was like my right-hand man. One of the few sensible men I knew. Obviously, Ron was not among them.

“It just happened. I don’t know what the fuck I’m meant to do with a wife. Not at this point in my life.”

And it was true. I had people to lead. My father to ruin and brother to destroy. None of those things required a wife. Not a wife that hated my guts as much as I hated hers.

“The Silver Pack would come for her,” Axel said. For some reason, I was sure deep down they wouldn’t. Not now.

“I doubt they will.”

“You literally kidnapped their Luna before their eyes. I’m surprised they haven’t stormed this place.” Axel said, taking a bite of his food.

“One thing is for certain. They don’t know our strength so we have time before they attack.”

“So what’s the plan?”

The plan… I was yet to find that out. All I wanted was to cause a disarray in the pack. What came after? I wasn’t sure yet.

“Just increase the security at the border for now.”

My eyes instinctively snapped towards Lara’s direction and I saw her quietly slipping out of the house. Ron was now engrossed in a conversation with someone else to notice she was gone. I smirked. I wondered how far she thought she could go before I caught her. I gave her a few minutes to head start before following her out.

I could feel her.

I could feel her heart beat.

I almost laughed out loud as I quickened my pace. She was running fast. Whatever she considered that speed she was using. I was wrapped in her scent. Wholly in her scent that I couldn’t perceive anything else. She obviously didn’t know she was leading me straight to her. I decided to end the chase because the guards at the border didn’t know her and might end up inflicting injury on her unintentionally.

I picked up my pace and in seconds I could see her running with all her might. She turned around and saw me.

Shit.

I heard her curse and she tried increasing her pace but ended up tripping over a branch. I physically winced as she twisted her ankle and fell. Why did it feel like I was the one injured?

“Fuck off!” She screamed and I walked towards her. She threw branches at me but I didn’t budge. I bent down and picked her and she pounded my chest. “Just let me go! This whole thing is a mistake!!”

“Plan a better escape then,” I replied as I carried her back to the house.

“I hate you!” She spat.

“Shocker,” I replied in a bored tone. As soon as we got to the house, she immediately stopped screaming as eyes were now on us. I carried her straight to her room and as I looked down at her, her face was bright red and she looked away.

“Don’t tell me you’re already falling for me.” I joked and her glare was back in seconds.

“You wish.” She spat and crawled away from me as soon as I dropped her on the bed. I walked into the bathroom and got a first aid box. When I came back out, I saw her looking at her ankle in pain. My heart tugged but I shook it off.

Why do I care?

I looked at the first aid box in my hand and knew I was going overboard. She’s just here as leverage. Whatever happened last night was a mistake to be fixed and nothing more. I balled my fist and dropped the box on the bed before heading out of the room. I should not care for her. She’s my brother’s mate not mine.

“Very helpful.” Lara spat sarcastically but I didn’t turn. Maybe because if I looked at her face, I would end up tending to her.

And I’d be damned if I let myself stoop that low.
