Chapter 2 Uncanny Savior
Mia stared through the darkness for a while, but there was no one around, just shadows of the spruce trees along the avenue.
Her heavy eyes were beginning to scratch, and no matter how hard she tried to catch her breath, her plummeting heartbeat wouldn’t let her.
She wiped the last tears on her face, and sniffled while she continued dragging her legs along the darkness.
Then the swoosh resounded again, and this time it was accompanied by heavy footsteps.
Mia turned to see figures lurking after her. Steps intense, and their long shadows casted on the hard road.
“I already left! You don’t need to make sure I won’t return!” She barked at the figures, thinking that those were the pack guards, but the two of them persisted, increasing their speed.
Their thudding got louder, and Mia knew that she had to run.
At once, she fled, but had barely made it up to ten meters when another figure got in the way.
A heavy hand pushed her to the ground.
“I told you that I was going to get you someday!” A familiar deep voice sniggered, and then Mia saw the face of its owner.
“Adolf?”
“In the flesh, Mia!” Adolf looked down at her with a sneer, withdrawing his sharp fangs and claws.
He stood several feet above her. Green eyes glaring with an age-long contempt.
“What do you want?!” Mia tried to crawl away, but she was grabbed by Adolf’s companions.
They were almost as huge and menacing as he was.
They dragged her to a corner and forced her to her knees.
She had forgotten that those Pack rebels usually frequented those paths at night, in search of victims to take advantage of.
Her struggle to break free was futile. “Let me go!” She whimpered, but their hold was unyielding.
Adolf stood in front of her, grabbed her curly black hair, and pulled. “Your Alpha is not here to save you, Mia! I am going to have my way with you!”
Adolf once belonged to Willow Pack, but after he killed an elder of the Pack, he fled and became one of the Pack rebels.
Mia had refused his advances, and after what he considered a public embarrassment, he decided that he was going to get back at her.
“All I did was desire you, Mia. But you disgraced me in front of everyone!” Adolf landed the first slap, and his friends stopped Mia from falling.
She groaned, wept, and pleaded, but he wasn’t ready to listen.
“Just because that Alpha is your mate, you think you are the most special in the eyes of the moon goddess.”
Mia winced. “Please!” Her voice was breaking, and it was hard to tell if she was more agonized about the betrayal, or the fate that was right in front of her.
Her knees were hurting, pierced by the rough surface of the ground.
Her assailants were not willing to let her go.
Adolf grabbed her neck.
She wheezed and coughed, but he continued choking her.
His friends didn’t make it easier for Mia.
They squeezed her hands, and even when they heard her bones crack, they had no pity.
She had no strength, and the only one who could have been there to save her had just ditched her for her sister.
It was almost midnight, and no one was going to come to her rescue.
Adolf had already left two marks on her face with his sharp claws, and while her blood flowed, he sank his balled fist into her belly.
Mia whimpered, and the tears she was done with began to trickle down forcefully.
“Please, Adolf! You are hurting me!” She was losing both her blood and vitality, but that didn’t matter to her predators.
“We need to hurry, Adolf! We don’t need the Pack guards catching us.” Ramon reminded their leader, but he was adamant and wanted to have his way at his own pace.
Adolf snorted, brushing aside the warning. “This could be the only opportunity I get to have her.” He turned to Larry and pointed. “Lie her over there and hold her still!”
They did as he wanted, dragging Mia’s bleeding body along the rough ground.
Her groans did not affect them.
As Adolf marched forward to devour her, he kept his sinister smile, smelling her innocence amidst her muffled screams.
He spread her legs, ready to reach for her underwear. “Be still, Mia! This will only hurt more if you try to be stubborn!”
Mia tried to kick, but Adolf pinned her legs to the ground with his knees.
Then he loosened his belt, snickering and smacking.
Mia lost all hope, awaiting the moment when he was going to defile her.
Adolf thought he was going to savor her, but the blinding lights hit his eyes, causing him to cover his face with both hands.
Then the sleek red car pulled over by the side, and slowly the door was pushed open.
Adolf growled at the intruder who had interrupted his moment. “Who are you?!” He got up and looked, but the fellow needed no introduction.
Ramon gasped. “That’s Alpha Russell!” He staggered backward at the sight of supremacy and fright.
The Lycan King’s aura had engulfed them.
“What the hell is he doing here?!” Larry’s eyes widened, and they let go of Mia.
But Adolf was relentless. He was already in the mood, sweating and ready to feed his desires.
The sight of the Lycan King had already made his friends recoil, but he didn’t care.
Russell didn’t say a word. He had his eyes on the girl who had already passed out, her blood streaming with several patterns on the floor.
“We need to leave!” Larry exclaimed, but Adolf didn’t listen, even when his friends left him.
“I am not afraid of you!” He barked at the cold Lycan King, and then he foolishly decided to fight him.
Adolf threw two punches and missed, then Russell retaliated, sending him sprawling on the ground.
That was enough to deter him.
He sprang to his feet and made a run for his life.
Russell thought about leaving Mia since he was only driving through and wasn’t supposed to meddle, but it looked like she was barely breathing.
“Why am I drawn to her?” He muttered, struggling with the thoughts of either leaving or helping her.
“I know, Tristan! I know!” He growled at his wolf. “But I can’t just leave her here! What if she dies?!” He discarded the thought of leaving her to die.
Then he saw the pendant hanging on her neck.
The guilt from the past gripped him.
“Could she be the one?” The feeling to leave her returned, but the curiosity to find out lingered.
So he grabbed her, carried her into the backseat of his car, and sped through the darkness.
