Chapter 56

The attack had shaken me, even more than I cared to admit. Armand had called a pack meeting and had required everyone to attend, something had to be done, and soon.

In the dimly lit room, we gathered around a heavy oak table, some of our pack standing or leaning on the walls in the room.

The tension weighed heavily on our shoulders, I could feel it hanging thick within the room. After my narrow escape from the vampires' kidnapping attempt, our pack was determined to uncover their motives.

Armand and his sons, my mates, stood at the head of the room. I sat before them, not wanting to be on my feet any more than I had to be.

Nicholas, his jaw clenched in frustration, broke the tense silence. "We need to figure out why they want Beryl and our baby. There must be a reason they're targeting them specifically.”

Brian nodded, his gaze intense. "It's not just about us anymore. They want the child, and we need to know why."

Elara, the midwife who had become an invaluable part of our pack, chimed in, "Maybe it has something to do with the child's heritage. Beryl's connection to the moon goddess is unique among us."

Cheney furrowed his brow in contemplation. "But how would the vampires know about that? We've kept it a secret from all outsiders."

Our Alpha King leaned forward, his expression thoughtful. "There's a possibility that there's a leak within our pack. Someone may be feeding them information."

Gasps and murmurs ran throughout the room. We were all so close now, after the heinous betrayal of Armand’s lover and brother. None of us could imagine someone within the pack trying to hurt us again.

The room grew tense, the idea of a traitor among us hanging heavily in the air. Dr. Matthias, our trusted ally, spoke up with a sense of urgency. "We need to investigate this discreetly. We can't afford to tip our hand if there's a spy."

Lily, her memory still fading, displayed a spark of determination in her eyes. "I'll help. I might not remember everything, but I can keep an eye out for anything suspicious."

Sophia nodded in agreement, her loyalty unwavering. "And I'll be right there with her." They were holding hands, the ultimate pair of friends.

We resolved to watch our own closely, a painful necessity in a time of such uncertainty. But the lingering question of how the vampires had gained knowledge about Beryl and the baby remained unanswered.

I knew implicitly who I could trust, and I resolved to stay close to that group. I spent my days with my mates, my friends, and the newest members of our pack, my doctor and midwife.

Weeks passed, our investigations yielding no concrete leads. The vampires remained elusive, always one step ahead. Frustration mounted, and hope seemed to wane.

The only positive during this time was that the vampires seemed to be taking a break from their attacks. Since their attempt to kidnap me, there hadn’t been another attack on or around the compound.

We settled in to an unsettled routine again, moving from one day to the next in uncertainty and tension. We didn’t know what to expect for each approaching day.

Then, on a quiet moonlit evening, an unexpected message arrived. A dark shadow of a messenger, bearing the scent of a distant pack, approached our den.

Armand, alert and cautious, met with the messenger, his personal guard in tow. When he returned, his expression held a mix of surprise and cautious optimism.

"The message was from the North. They're an ally pack," he explained to us. "They've heard about our struggles with the vampires and want to offer their assistance."

“Can we trust them?” Nicholas asked, distrustful of everyone at this point. “I believe we can. I’ve known their leader for longer than you’ve been alive. I knew him before I became the Alpha King. He’s a good man.”

Excitement rippled through our pack, the prospect of reinforcements filling us with renewed determination. We agreed to meet with this ally pack, to discuss our collaboration and try to forge a united front against the vampires.

We sent the messenger back with arrangements for a pack meeting, which was arranged under the moonlit sky, and representatives from both packs gathered.

The allies, led by their Alpha Solomon, were formidable. They presented a united front, and the guards were just as large and intimidating as ours.

Armand and Solomon faced off against one another, seemingly tense, but after a moment, they each laughed and embraced.

“It’s been a long time, old friend.” Solomon’s voice was deep and penetrated the night sky, filling it. “Too long, indeed.” Armand replied, his tone soft and intimate.

It was obvious that these alphas had been friends for a long time. They spoke quietly together for a few moments, and then turned to the collected packs.

Armand spoke to the entire group, “Friends, my dear pack, we have come together in uncertain times. I am grateful for the offer of assistance, and welcome each and every one of you into our home and our compound. Please feel free to live here as though you always have. Our home is yours.”

Solomon smiled at Armand’s words and the two again leaned in to converse together. After a while of mingling between the two packs, Solomon spoke up to the crowd.

“We have unfortunately had our fair share of vampire trouble and would love to share what we know.” They shared their knowledge about vampire attacks and their strategies for defense.

Alpha Solomon, his gaze unwavering, addressed us with a sense of camaraderie. "We've faced these bloodsuckers before, and we know their tricks. Together, we can protect our packs and put an end to this menace."

The unity between our packs was palpable, a powerful force against the shadowy threat that had plagued us. Plans were made, defenses fortified, and vital information exchanged. We were no longer alone in this fight.

As we bid our new allies goodnight, the weight of their support filled us with hope. The vampires had underestimated the strength of our bonds, and together with our newfound allies, we would confront them head-on.

The secrets behind the vampires' motives remained shrouded, but with each passing day, we inched closer to uncovering the truth. The battle against the darkness was far from over, but we were no longer fighting alone.
