Chapter 2 Michael, Let's Get Divorced
The funeral wrapped up that afternoon.
But Michael didn't come home that night.
The next morning, Olivia saw Michael on the news.
#The Johnson Group and the Brown Group Have Formed a Strategic Partnership.
Olivia was a bit surprised.
If she remembered right, the current head of the Brown family was Sophia, who had just come back to the country.
In the video, Michael and Sophia stood close together, the camera zooming in on them. Olivia felt a familiar pang.
It was just like the scene at the funeral yesterday.
She casually scrolled through the comments and saw people gushing.
[Michael and Sophia are such a perfect match!]
[This is a real power couple.]
[Ms. Brown is both beautiful and capable…]
Olivia tightened her grip on her phone, feeling the sting of irony.
Turns out, without her knowing, Michael and Sophia had already become an acknowledged couple.
Michael had always been low-key, not one for the spotlight.
Now, he was flaunting Sophia.
Meanwhile, she had been managing the lab at the Johnson Group for years, and only a few top executives knew about their real relationship.
He never told her about other company matters, nor did he let her get involved.
Olivia closed the news app, her heart aching.
But it was a pain she was getting used to.
She felt she would eventually become numb to it.
That evening, Michael finally came back.
After a night out, his clothes were clearly changed.
But Olivia had no interest in figuring out who helped him change.
Michael's face was aristocratic and well-defined, his long legs clad in tailored trousers.
He took a few steps toward Olivia, carrying a faint, unfamiliar scent of perfume.
Olivia felt nauseous and planned to step away.
Michael spoke coldly, "Bianca's condition has been unstable lately. I have other plans for your lab. From now on, just stay home and take care of her."
Olivia was stunned.
Before she could respond, Michael continued, "The Johnson family and the Brown family have reached a strategic partnership. To show our sincerity, I plan to let Sophia manage the lab. She has experience working in large labs abroad, arguably more than you."
His tone was a statement, not a discussion.
Immediately, Olivia's fingers clenched, her heart stabbing with pain, bitterness spreading through her body.
She was not a full-time housewife.
Originally, she joined the Johnson Group's AI medical equipment lab for Michael, to manage it.
She had her own career.
Her expertise was in pharmaceutical research.
Later, she sacrificed her ambitions for him.
But now, he replaced her without a second thought.
"Michael, do you have any idea how much effort I put into the lab over the years? The research department is what it is today because I led the team, working countless nights to get here. How can you... just erase all my hard work like that?" Olivia trembled uncontrollably, her words almost bleeding.
If Michael's previous neglect and coldness, and his indifference to Bianca, had already filled her with disappointment in their marriage,
Then now, Michael was truly destroying her past efforts.
Her love was worthless, thrown to the ground and trampled!
Olivia's eyes reddened.
She had given up her place at the funeral, her job, and next, it would likely be her position as Michael's wife!
Olivia faced reality, and after a long pause, she found her voice, "Michael, we…"
She was about to say divorce, but Michael didn't even have the patience to listen, interrupting, "Don't give me that pitiful look. I made this decision after careful consideration. Your work distracts you, preventing you from fully caring for Bianca, which is why she hasn't improved. This is your failure as a mother. So, there's no room for negotiation. I'm doing this for your own good!"
He finished, bypassing Olivia, "I'm going upstairs to shower. You should calm down."
Olivia stood still, not speaking.
How laughable!
To make room for Sophia, he said it so grandly!
She thought of the new system she had developed, her solo creation, using the most advanced technology, nearly complete after several rounds of validation.
If implemented, it would bring huge profits to the Johnson Group.
Originally, it was meant to be a surprise for Michael.
But now, it seemed unnecessary!
No need to discuss divorce, just present the divorce papers.
'Michael, don't regret this!' Olivia thought.
While Michael showered, Olivia quickly drafted a divorce agreement in the study.
Her mind was chaotic, unsure of what clauses to write, but her heart was set on divorcing quickly, ending everything.
She ultimately wrote the most important clause: [Bianca's custody must belong to the mother!]
After printing it out, she held the agreement, noticing her body no longer trembled, and the sense of loss in her heart was gone.
She swiftly signed her name, even pressing her fingerprint.
Michael was still in the shower, so she placed the agreement on the nightstand, in a conspicuous spot, ensuring he would see it immediately.
