Chapter 104
Carol’s POV
We quickly dressed while the knocking continued and once we were settled, we walked into the living room. Aiden went to the front door, and Oliver stood on the other side when he pulled it open. He looked a bit flustered, but his entire body froze when he looked back at us.
His eyes flashed from Aiden to me and then back to Aiden.
“Am I interrupting something?” Oliver asked, a bit smugly.
Aiden rolled his eyes and folded his arms across his chest.
“Yes,” he answered simply. “What do you want? It’s late.”
“I found something you might be interested in,” Oliver said; it was at that moment I realized he was carrying a laptop.
I was now consumed with curiosity as Aiden let Olver into the penthouse.
“Hey, Carol,” he greeted.
“Hey, yourself,” I said in return.
We followed Oliver over to the couch where he set his laptop up.
“So, what’s this all about?” After what felt like an eternity of watching Oliver type away on his computer, Aiden finally asked.
“Morgan Leveau,” he said with a grin. “There was a security system in that underground hideout, but everything was wiped from it.”
“So, how does that help us?” Aiden asked, sounding impatient.
“Because whoever wiped the footage was dumb and didn’t think to check for any backups that could have been created. Their security system was a brand-new model which meant there was a likelihood that it would automatically backup whatever it captures for emergency purposes. It goes into a completely separate file, and it took a while to hack into it. But I finally got it.”
“You were able to see Morgan there?” I asked him, curiously.
“Yup,” he answered. “There were security cameras everywhere. I think Morgan was paranoid that someone would try to break in or something. But I not only could see Morgan setting up for the transfer ritual, but I saw her taunting you in the cage. Not to mention her men drugging you on her orders.”
Aiden tensed at Oliver’s words, and I put my hand on his arm to settle him, knowing that his wolf was probably getting agitated at the mention of someone drugging me.
He turned his laptop to face Aiden and I watched as Aiden’s jaw tightened and clenched at the images being displayed in front of him. I didn’t want to look; I experienced it. I didn’t need to relive it. But telling from Aiden’s face, I knew it wasn’t good.
“Okay, so we have proof that it was Morgan. Now what?” I asked, cutting into the silence that consumed us. “Do we contact that council member and tell them Morgan is a fake?”
“Not yet,” Oliver and Aiden said at the same time.
“The council members could be a part of this for all we know,” Aiden further explained. “We aren’t sure who to trust right now.”
“Now, we have to find her,” Oliver added, looking over at me. “She disappeared right after this, and we haven’t been able to get a hold of her.”
“She’s always had strong ties with my family. Maybe my mother would know something. I can always bring it up at brunch.”
“Brunch?” I asked, raising my brows.
“She wants to have brunch at the club in the morning. You will be attending as well because I don’t think I can handle something like this on my own,” he said almost sheepishly. “The doctors say my father won’t be able to have visitors until tomorrow evening and I agreed to brunch to get my mother’s mind off things.”
I ran my fingers through his hair and gave him a gentle kiss.
“Of course,” I said softly. “What club?”
“It’s a country club,” he told me.
I sighed.
“Of course, your mother was a part of a country club,” I breathed. “Is this going to be our lives now? Country clubs and brunch?”
He laughed lightly but the laugh was almost humorless.
“It doesn’t have to be,” he assured me. “Her life does not equal ours. We will find our footing here and create our own lives.”
I leaned into him, loving the sound of that, but I was also feeling a bit homesick already.
“Oh, by the way,” Oliver said, sliding a card over to me. It had a phone number on the card. I spoke to the King’s assistant and told them that I have reason to believe the King was deceived and his daughter is alive. She doesn’t fully believe me, but I told her I’d pass along her phone number so you can speak with her directly.”
My mouth fell open as I grabbed the card from him.
“What? How did you even know about this?” I asked him, confused.
He glanced at Aiden and realization dawned on me; Aiden told him.
I sent a glare in Aiden’s directly and he gave me a sheepish look.
“It doesn’t hurt to look into it, Carol. He is your birth father after all,” Aiden said, wrapping an arm around my shoulders.
“If you truly are his daughter, I’m sure you’ll have a lot to talk about and some questions might be answered,” Oliver added.
I wasn’t sure how I felt about meeting this man; I mean, I already had a dad. I was raised by a loving family, and I wasn’t going to give them up for anything.
“Thank you, Oliver,” was all I said in response.
“Of course,” he said as he slammed his laptop shut and stood to his feet. “Okay, I’m taking off now. I still have work to do. I’m patrolling with the gamma warriors in the morning to see if we can pick up Morgan's scent near the borders. I also have a meeting with a possible investor in the morning for the Hotel branch. I’m looking to expand the franchise and open a couple more hotels around the country. Your father already signed off on it and I don’t want that to go to waste…”
Aiden nodded and put his hand on Oliver’s shoulder, giving it a tight squeeze.
“Thanks for everything,” Aiden said. “You are a fantastic Beta.”
“And you are going to be a great Alpha,” he replied. “I’m honored to be working by your side.”
After we said goodbye, Oliver left, and Aiden and I stared at one another with similar expressions. I was overly exhausted with everything going on and I just wanted to get some sleep. Reading my mind, Aiden dragged me back into the bedroom and we snuggled in bed until we both fell asleep.

Third Person POV
“Why was she still alive in the first place?! She was supposed to die years ago!!”
Morgan lowered her head, shamefully. It was always the plan to kill the infant because she was meant to be the most powerful person in the entire world. She was also supposed to take over the throne and be the true ruler of the werewolves and a high priestess to the witches.
But Morgan had other plans for the infant. She wanted to keep her alive so that when she came into her full powers, Morgan could take them and be the true ruler and high priestess herself. She wanted more than anything to be stronger than she already was and rule over everything. This was Morgan’s time to shine.
She hid the infant's scent and sent her to live with mortals; that way she would never practice her powers. She wouldn’t even know they existed until her powers started to shine through. Even then, she wouldn’t know what was happening to her. Morgan would keep an eye on her until that time came and then she would snatch her away.
She would take the girl’s powers and keep them for herself. Then, she would kill the girl just like she should have done the day she was born.
Nobody would find out the truth. But of course, that didn’t happen the way it was planned because Carol ended up being fated mates with a powerful werewolf. She should have known that Aiden would do anything and everything to get his precious mate back. She also shouldn’t have underestimated Carol and her abilities. Despite not having any magic practice, she was still good at using her powers. She managed to escape from a place that was supposed to be inescapable.
Fury rose in Morgan as she spent time leaving and hiding from the wrath of the Capital. It would only be a matter of time before they came looking for her.
She left the capital and returned to her home across the country, leaving behind the men she recruited to help her.
Nobody could find out about what she had done; especially not her very own council. They wouldn’t hesitate to reprimand her for her actions, and she wasn’t going to go down without a fight. She was still very much determined to get Carol’s powers and become the high priestess at last!
Her plans were halted though when her boss showed up on her doorstep, fury clear in his eyes. Without a word, she was shoved to the side as her boss stormed into her bungalow. Morgan checked outside to make sure she wasn’t followed before shutting the door behind her and bowing her head to her boss before lifting her gaze.
As Morgan looked into the deep blue eyes of her boss, she quickly lowered her eyes again, unable to look directly at the beauty in front of her. Power was radiating off her in waves and Morgan felt smaller than she ever felt before.
“Do you not have an answer to my question, Morgan?” She asked, furious.
Morgan shrunk even lower.
“I… I…”
“I’ve had enough of you and your lies,” she said through her teeth. “You have betrayed me for the last time!”
“Please…” Morgan said, bowing her head even lower. “Forgive me. I only wanted to harvest the girl's powers. I did it for you!” It was a lie and they both knew it, but Morgan would do anything to gain the trust of her boss once again so she could resume her task at hand.
“Do you think of me as a fool?” She asked, her eyes blazing now. “You have put everything I worked so hard for in jeopardy. Because of you, everything is ruined and now I must do things myself.”
“I’m sorry…” was all Morgan could think to say. “I… I just wanted her powers,” Morgan finally confessed. “I wanted to be the high priestess.”
“I have already given you more than enough, Morgan,” her boss seethed. “I made it so you were in charge of the witch council. I trained you myself and made you into a powerful sorcerer. And yet, you still wanted more?”
“The girl was chosen by the Moon Goddess to be the high priestess,” Morgan explained. “I wanted to be the chosen one.”
“You will never be the chosen one, Morgan,” her boss spat. “You are nothing more than a disgrace. The girl was supposed to be dead long ago and now because of you… she has a chance to take over. She could take what is rightfully mine!”
“I… I’m sorry…” Morgan sighed, lowering her gaze.”
“Sorry isn’t enough this time,” she said coldly.
Morgan felt a sharp pain in the side of her neck and realized she was stabbed with a syringe. It was filled with a green liquid and Morgan feared what it could be.
She gasped when she could no longer breathe; the inside of her body felt as if it was on fire. She was burning from the inside out. Her boss watched her as she crumbled to the ground, screaming in agony and gasping from the breath that refused to come.
“I have no more use for you Morgan,” her boss said through her teeth. “You are done here.”
