Chains and confessions
ELARA
“So you’re an orphan too?” He asked bluntly.
“I am,” I answered reluctantly.
“Many might take you as an arrogant type but you’re really just outspoken and allergic to unjust,”he said with a stern look on his face.
“All this buttering up won’t get you anywhere. Why did you leave your luxurious palace to chat with me here in this rusty dungeon? What is it that you want from me? You literally have my freedom on the palm of your hands and now this?” I asked while out of breath. It seems my hunger is really catching up to me. “What more do you want?”
My eyes were get blurring again but not because I just woke up but because I had refused to eat for the past two days I had been locked up.
“You’re out of breath, madam stubborn. I’d recommend the food here. The five star chefs in your world won’t stand a chance against our one star rated chefs. So please, eat up,” he requested with a smile on his face.
I stared down at him and then at the tray. His constant talks of eating was making my condition worse. My stomach kept growling and growling but I wouldn’t give in.
“Oh please!” He let down a deep sigh while speaking. “Did you really think the food was poisoned?”
The expression stale expression on my face was all the answers he needed.
“Ok, I’ll prove to you that it’s not,” he said as he began to take pieces of the food.
He ate them gestured from his head to his toe that he was still doing fine. But who does he think I am? This tricks works on kids only.
“Do I look that stupid to you?” I asked as I scoffed and shook my head. “You’re a werewolf and I’m a human. You beast are immune to literally every poison. So please…save the act.”
“I really think this hunger is messing with your head. Because while would the man who swore to make you his try to poison you. You’re confusing yourself so much you don’t know what to believe anymore,” he added.
“How am I know what to believe and what not to believe? Is anyone in my current position obliged to think straight?” I asked with a serious look on my face.
He lifted the glass of water on the tray proceeded to where I was seated, took my hands and placed it.”Here, have it. It’s water. It won’t kill you, it won’t intoxicate you. It’s plain old water. Or don’t humans take water aswell?”
I glared at him as he stood in front of me. As tall as a whole house. Tall enough to block the sunlight from reaching me.
I snatched it from him and half the glass spilled on my hands because over my dead body will I obey any of these beasts. I inspected the glass carefully before drinking from it.
Lucas shook his head in awe and returned to his seat while smirking.
“What’s that smirk for?” I asked angrily. “You’ve successfully poisoned me, haven you? At least it’s better to die than endure this torture.”
“You’ll never change my mind, Elara. You and the alpha are exactly alike and no there was no poison in the water nor in the food,” he answered as I saw the expression on his face change. “You know, Killian lost his parents at a very young age as well. I don’t even know if that was a good thing or a bad thing to brag about till this day.”
His expression surprisingly changed from being all beamy to gloomy. Surprised to see him address his alpha by his given name.
“Meaning?” I asked curiously.
“Growing up, Killian used to get abused a lot by his father. He just turned ten years old that day. I could remember it vividly. Little Killian and little Lucas just back from school and on entering the palace we saw Killian’s father, Herald, yelling at his wife, Ange. You see, Herald had just found out that Ange was having an affair with his close friend and beta, Vlady. When yelling wasn’t enough, he started to hit her. And little Killian ran to the aid of his mother but got greeted with a right hand to his eye. After the assault His mother, Ange ran away from the pack after finding out a fight has broken out between the alpha and his beta. Vlady got killed and Ange had ran away,” he sighed deeply as he continued. “The only one left to his anger out on was his only son, Killian. Every day it was abuse after abuse. Bruise after bruise. But every time I would meet up with Killian to play he would always try to hide his wounds while trying his best to smile and assure me everything was okay. Because he considered me as his younger brother. Thinking about it now, it breaks my heart how helpless we were. The alpha, Herald was the strongest in the pack, no one dared to speak against nor they would be killed and that’s where his down fall started from.”
He wiped the tears forming in his face as he held his head high and smiled. “Everything happens for a reason, am I right?”
“Why are you asking me? Did I request for a full background check of the alpha? I only asked for what you meant. And if you think I’ll tell you about myself because of the heartfelt story you just shared then you’ve cleared misunderstood me,” I said while rolling my eyes.
“That’s it for today, your highness. Doesn’t it feel great to finally open up and have a conversation?” He asked as he proceeded to lock the cage.
“I never opened up to you. You’re the one speaking when not spoken to. You initiated the conversation and you’re ending it, not me,” I replied.
He grinned and walked out. As he left. Someone else came storming in.
